  1. That outcome at actually isn't a veteran only option... Really...I wasn't able to do both with Operative and Recruit (Albatross/Sie)...some Intel missed or bad choices I made in Dialogue? I won't give specifics, but we do have checks based on backgrounds other than Recruit and Veteran, as well as skill ranks. I actually noticed that when I did my agent/spy playthrough. I was refrenced multiple times according to my background.
  2. Sorry, that was me not formulating a sentence right. Anyway, I shut up now. This thread is for patch suggestions.
  3. I'm not saying it was the first game of its kind or anything, but next to 99% of games at the time, it was pretty unusual. And, for the record, if you want to rate games purely on the grounds of "does it have a good story or not"... even pulp fiction makes the best games look like absolute garbage. Not really. First of all both are very different naratives. Also saying "Every other story is better than video game stories" is completly untrue. I just have to look in my local bookstore at garbage that is called "Bestseller" to understand that. And. I LIKED Deus Ex Story. I said it before. I just said it is not that amazing. Also there have been many good video game stories come out before Deus Ex. Believe it or not.
  4. Phew, good thing there's no glitch, guess I just imagined i- oh wait. I meant something else, actually. I know people that didn't found him in the last screen. Just wanted to clarify if that was meant. That's why i wrote: "Or do you mean something different?" Never expirienced or heard the bug before. Nice to know.
  5. I haven't played Alpha Protocol, but I can comment on this : Deus Ex didn't only have a pretty bad story, but also pretty bad dialogues, and the hilarious delivery was only part of it. When it comes down to it Deus Ex is basically your usually 'there's always been a conspiracy behind the scene', 'man-made virus' and all that kind of things. The way they created the world was actually quite compelling but the story itself was pretty weak. Deus Ex, for its time, had a pretty impressive story. You have to realise that it came out in about 2001, and also had a lot of inquiries into politics, philosophy, etc. that most games never even bother with, not to mention the entire history and fiction surrounding the world. All the miscellaneous newspapers, books, etc. go a long way to making the world feel legitimate and believable. Some of the dialogue does feel a bit arbitrary and random (seems like everyone wants you to know their opinion on government systems), but aside from some bad voice acting in Hong Kong I really don't think there's anything wrong with it. Planescape Torment came out in 1999. Also there were already games in the early 90 that got deep. Most are somewhat forgotten though. And yes, there was not much wrong with it. But it wasn't really that impressive either.
  6. I agree with this. The conversations in Alpha Protocol are great, but they're also totally scripted. I would have loved having situations where I could walk around an environment and talk to people. It'd go a long way towards Alpha Protocol feeling more like an RPG. Though, that comes with the gerne. Movie and book spies usually have very definitive objectives when they go into public. The E-Mail contacts make up for it. Especially since they are extremly funny and well written. Well, Sales don't look to bad as of now, so maybe that can be an improvment in the sequel.
  7. Obisidian normally does. Have no fear. Though these aren't that much problems so far. Many are suggestions to change balance or little design decisons. @reg1.1 Chateu Glitch? You don't mean the mission where you have to scan people? There is no Glitch. He's walking around on a balcony. Or do you mean something different?
  8. Deep? Deus Ex isn't that deep. There is some things that are given by the setting but.... It's not really that exceptional. Liked it very much, though. Furthermore. Yeah, you can bring it down to that, expect we are completly ignoring believable (in the sense of that they never really act out of character) characters, consistant storytelling, very very few plotholes (and even then it would be nitpicking),... I could go on.... Point is: Originality in overall plot has almost NOTHING to do with good writing, overall quality or storytelling. P.S Concerning that AP is a conspiracy thriller,.... well its DAMN good. They are usually full of plotholes.
  9. To be honest, I find this offensive. I keep getting this impression that there is a heavy bias from some, who try to categorize on nationality along with the implication that some how American is there fore inferior. I think this is wrong on many levels. One of the ironies of this post is that the reviewers, the journalists I know who work for these major publications are often times non-americans. Many of the major publications are multi-national. Game Spot for example operates in both the US and UK. Eurogamer gave the game a 7 out of ten, the German version an 8 out of 10. Reading the user reviews from the regions shows just as many varied responses as their North American counterparts. The point is that there is no great divide between the two continents, and it isnt so "black and white" what one can identify "american" reviews against those in europe, especially when the review sites you call American might have been written and reviewed by a European staff. Some like the game, some do not, but I believe most recognize that the title needs polish and some tweaking. This is not uncommon. To be honest. I didn't want to be offensive. It was just abour that the game was different reviewed in other countrys. It has probably more to do with the gamers of a certain country other than reviewers. There are a lot of rpg gamers in Germany, Vienna, Swiss for example. Sorry, anyway.
  10. Imperator and Garland were awesome villians. Seriously I&II have such a bad rep and I don't know why (II had a broken leveling system but apart from that...). They were pretty good for NES titles. III was a lot worse. My favourites are VI, IX, IV, V and XII Currently I'm playing Dragon Quest VI for DS in the japanese version. Great game.
  11. "Everyone who likes the game is a fanboy." Mods, please? Trolling doesn't get much more blatant than this. "mods please?" are you serious??? LOL! Well according to you all, everyone who says another game is better is also a fanboy, so whatdaya have to say about that? don't worry I'll wait... List reasons. Listen to reasons. Also, if you like a game more than another is entirely subjective and not a problem. However, if you BASH another Game for NO GOOD REASON...... That is entirly another story. Especially if you are ignoring flaws of other games you like when you do it.
  12. 1. Kotor2. Where did I talk about KOTOR2? (Or did you not mean me?) 2. Yep, but also great storytellers. The problem here is, that it has them because of their products. And they are a fact! Not so much an anonymus commentator which will be seen as a fact by people who skim through the sites and magazines. 3. Well, that does not break the language barrier. Especially people generally listen to magazines and sites from their own country first. Anyway, not important actually. Forget it. 4. agree about Bethesda.
  13. Complaining helps, to learn from faults. It's sometimes better than a lot of praise to improve a game. Of course, complaining without reason and detail is worthless.
  14. Look I have nothing against you, but if you take a step back and look at this thread and just read with an objective eye, you will start laughing, trust me. You don't get the thread do you. (Most) of the members here made a joke about it. It isn't about a conspiracy. It is just a point out to all the bashing it gets. For critic points that many other games have too who are way higher ranked. Of course, there "could" be someone who is thinking about an actualy conspiracy, but I see nobody particular in this thread.
  15. Maybe he wasn't on the team during the KOTOR2 days. Maybe he thought that the game turned out well in spite of the limited timeframe, so he didn't feel like he had to defend the team. Maybe he's still bitter at Chris Parker for scrapping his many suggestions to fix the gameplay. Who knows? I'm not arguing that what the guy did was professional or even just intelligent.. I'm just arguing that it could be true, and given the possibility, I, as a journalist, would publish it in a news. As simple as that. As for 'hurting sales', let's be honest, I doubt that this comment will hurt sales, if anything, it will be the major gaming sites review that are lukewarm at best that will hurt the game sales. That's a lot of maybes and a lot of speculation. The problem with speculation is, what you seem to ignore, that it can easily manipulate people. Thats also how an image of Obsidian comes into peoples minds that doesn't have to be true. That IS dangerous for a company. Regardless of the topic. And I don't think it should be in a magazine because that is on the level on any sensational paper. Also for the third time. The world isn't just america. If you believe it or not. Most european reviewers gave it favorable reviews and I can see it sell well, at least over here.
  16. With no word did we say it couldn't be true (at least in the last few posts) Hell, I don't think development on ANY game goes without drama. And the problem isn't a campagin AGAINST Alpha Protocol (Honestly, I would accept any score between 75-85). It's that in comparison to other overhyped games (including RDR, Fallout 3,.... list goes on) problems are blown out of proportion. Especially since in these games similiar problems are considerd "minor". Well, anyway I'm happy with the reviewers in my country. (Which were all around ~80)
  17. Before 2004-2005 they were easily one of the best review sites actually. Though quality always depends on the reviewer.
  18. Well, I still isn't a valid excuse. I don't go around to the customers of my former employer and tell them "Work sucked, don't buy the product". (And I really hated one. Believe me) It's an enormusly dickish move even when the reason behind it is understandable. And from the comments I read from the designers (Including from twitter and a guy at the something awful forums) they seem rather proud of it and what they have done. And why "as well". It wasn't a disappointment for everyone. There are many people who are happy how it turned out and love playing it.
  19. True, though it is to expect that some sort of drama always happens. Its just a normal workplace like any other. It's still not nice to attack them, though.
  20. Not to mention we don't even know what the guy (if) even worked on. He could be some low level employee who thinks he knows everything better. It's also more than dickish to his former colleagues and workplace.
  21. Wait what? Here in germany there wasn't one major game magazine that gave it under a 80. I looked over most european review sites (including french, finnland, swedish, polish, spain, and and and) and the scores of ~80 were way in the majority. That's a difference to the 60-70 ones in America.
  22. Here's the irony of your comment. You criticize Deus Ex Machina because "you didn't have any issues with ME1/2, Oblivion, or Fallout 3." It's possible that people don't have issues with Alpha Protocol too. I haven't found any bugs yet (but it's still early for me). Huh? Where did I criticize Deus Ex? That's in my top 5 games of all time He did mean the USER "Deus Ex Machima" Also Deus Ex? Really? Well, your just ignoring here that Deus Ex has many of the same complaints as Alpha Protocol. MANY. At release it mostly got a rating of 80-85 and it wasn't seen as a polished game. Its one of my favourite games though, too. I see here a very different fanboy.
  23. Considering its Obsidian when wasn't it. There are most of these issues but they are exterrageted. They are not worse than in most other Games. So, if you don't go into a negative mindset into this game there is a good chance you will like it.
  24. 1. That's just not true. There are several things that change largly and its impact on world stability and the characters based on what you do. These are just two things I wanted to say since the choice thing is just not true. Every gamer who played this twice and differently can tell you that. So, give it another go at least or watch some playthroughs. Edit 1: Revised originally statement since that was a little too opinion based.
  25. No, you don't. As for Veteran. It isn't exactly harder. quite the opposite. lets you start with way more skillpoints than the others. As for the OP. I can only give you the advise with changing things manually. Though, your a pretty high level player. Alpha Protocol on Hard/Recruit is harder for me than any of the ME's.
