  1. The rink is wlong. http://www.actiontrip.com/rei/comments_new...tml?id=081810_7 fixed
  2. Of course lowering your expections is good. But lowering them by nitpicking doesn't make it any more honest. To not have a discussion here about this topic, please refer to every Left for Dead 2 thread before release.
  3. This one was refreshingly honest. Not negative. Let's be honest: Fallout NV is going to be MOTS. Big Time. For me, personally, MOTS Fallout 3 plus some cool additions still make it potentially the best game to be released in several years. But overhyping will just lead to the inevitable backlash. To be honest. Saying MOTS to New Vegas is like saying MOTS to Vice City/San Andreas or Fallout 2. The most interesting changes for me atleast are the ones done to the dialog and the respect system. And since we see several different opinions on the game, I don't think the other reviewers were any less honest.
  4. Oh, wait: Just to get you out of Bizzaro world. But yeah, your right. Overall reactions were positive Rejoice.
  5. I agree, many people were scared away by the terrible reviews, and I know personally quite a few people who just recently started to play it or finished it, and enjoy it a lot. Sales will go up with time. Well, its bound to become a cult game. So, yeah. Of course it will probably need several years before it makes a difference. AP lost it first chance.
  6. Uhhhhh, do you really want to go there? Look at how the first Baldur's Gate is viewed NOW. There are frequently players that recommend to SKIP the first one if someone wants to play BG. And there are several 90' rpgs that are viewed higher than it. Also Volourn there are people that have other opinions than you and yours is not universal.
  7. Replace that with "world in where I hate bashing and overrating" and it fits really. I just usually see the good and the bad in everything a game has to offer. Honestly, it's clear to me that the game has serious issues in direction (which I blame on yet again a midway designer change), balance, level design, and and and. Personally it's around an 8 in my book. Then again there's not many games I consider over an 8.5. At the same time I also try to analyze things in context and how they were intended. Which is not that easy then..... Well, anyway. At the moment I manly defend AP because of the bashing it gets overall at the moment. In 6 years when the game is somewhat of a cult game I'll be bashing fanboys. You'll see XD. At the moment. Yeah, fanboy isn't that wrong.
  8. Especially because he bases it on the professional state alone, not on the sentence himself. But hey, I'm tired appearently it's the worst writing ever. Live in your hateworld. Hope it fits. Also, yes you still haven't named ANY fact ANY detailed example and ANY statement that isn't entirly oppinonated oh you god of C&C. Bye.
  9. Well, a sequel could still work in the universe. Make it a prequel and star Marburg and explore why exactly he has so given up on his land. He's a complete narcisst though, so handeling the rp part would prove rather difficult.
  10. Argh, why do I have to get into such arguments: 1. Where do you get that? Seriously do you have numbers? Or are you taking that thing out of your ass (sorry for the rude language) The only thing that I can say about AP is that it has the most choice and reactivity than all other games I've played in its playtime. I don't know if theres other games that have overall more, though. . Completly different dialouges only to name the simplest. Your allies that come to help when you need it or provide you with Support like the mixed cocain in the brayko fight. The way how different things can end. 2.I gave my reasoning why its not. If you decide to actually speak about the scene instead of gibberish I'll be here to discuss your pont -"It's poor writing W
  11. Yeah, you don't get what an example is don't you? Volo is referring to an actual dialogue choice. It's a bad example, as Parker (who Thorton refers to as a 'janitor') takes no umbrage at the suggestion he's a janitor and actually says it would be a good guess later on in the conversation. You can make it an insult, but only if you follow up the initial professional choice with a suave (?) choic How was that an insult? It was a clear assessment of thornton regarding Parker's job and not meant with any insulting attempt. Parker didn't take it as such. It wasn't even spoken insulting. Charachter assessments based on real life jobs when someone is working a very special sort of job is something that is frequently used. Also, do you want to insult the job as a janitor? Without it most buisnesses just don't work. Sure it doesn't need a degree but its far from an insult. If he said something like this sarcastically: So, how does it feel to be a janitor? Yes, then it would be insulting since its clearly meant as an attack on the person. Didn't happen here.
  12. I can understand that. It was a bit lame for me too.
  13. Yeah, you don't get what an example is don't you? It's an example. You write an example with a direct fact (Don't know how I write that best in englisch) You know, something that actually happened in the game and not just some random generalization which isn't true. @Overlord: I would argue that the combination is bad. Also all personalities are normal. Not one charachter is over the top in terms of personality EXCEPT for the design. Sie and Stephen have eccentric personalities but I don't remember one dialog where they really were unbelievable. Also while the story was mediocre. It was the good kind of mediocre in terms it was coherent and the whole game is in part a homage to the spy movie gerne in general. What I found kind of really good was that Nina was actually the one that burned you. It's a really good way to avoid a clichee and makes actually kind of sense. But I guess that's a lot of opinion so I understand where you comming from. I agree with you on mostly everything else.^^ Also about the ending: There are several ones. For example you can join Leland or betray him or. And there are several variations depending on your choices. What was exactly so horrible about it? It can be a little unsatisfaing though. But a ride into the sun. Well, it's also part of the hommage. And it's not like major plotpoints were unresolved like in KOTOR2. Also the last mission varies immensly depending on your choices.
  14. Codex is the forum with the most hyperbole in the entire internet rpg scene. They are worse than NMA. Sorry, at this point I can't argue with you anymore. You just bring points up that are simply not true or spoken with a extremly narrow view. And "Who cares if people disliked the spirit meter" You know? Who cares if people disliked AP's gameplay. Sorry, thats not an argument. That is really downright ignorance. Also AP's writing is very. VERY good. Especially dialog and e-mails.
  15. No, I don't. I think it's too much hyperbole generated through several gaming practices and standards that don't make sense under which AP was seen in the wrong light. Extravagating the flaws was an outcome of it. And there are numeros other reasons. But none of them is that I would judge a persons intelligence. Just their taste maybe. I cannot say if you are dumb or intelligent. I don't know you in real life. But, at the moment you are acting extremly ignorant accusing everybody here of something that just isn't true for most of them. And even now I don't have any idea if you just do that because your angry at something and you are a pretty cool dude in reality.
  16. No, it doesn't. It just speaks on our total different mentalities and the hyperbole surrouding AP in the USA. Also that there are different reviews around. Not to mention he didn't insult anyone. You just did. It could have been better formulated though. Especially there was no need to mention the US specifically.
  17. For me, there are actually 3 points on the critsisim on this game I don't understand: 1. The Bugs. AP has waaaaaaaaaaaay less Bugs than any Obsidian game before it and is in fact practically on the level of the first Mass Effect. It's not great, but its in the normal margin of most rpgs. (I seriously also don't get when people complain too much about Bugs in AP but then don't make a big deal out or don't critisise buggier games. For an actual example: Red Dead Redemption. Yeah, it's open world. Still has tons and tons of bugs (some are pretty holarious like human charachters getting the animations of animals). 2. The Gameplay. Not saying it hasn't flaws. Considering the balancing issue it has major ones. But at least it was again an honest attempt to fuse 3D person shooter/stealth with rpg elements. And they did the job for what it's worth relativly good. When I see people in playthroughs wandering around, shooting with the pistol across the room and not waiting for a critical even though that's what the tutorial tells you RIGHT AT THE BEGINNING makes me furious. Complaining with Ignorance just because you have to adjust to the rules in a game is completly stupid. Sorry. If we actually did that there would be only ONE extremly dumbed down combat system. Sure, it sells. But do you want that? Seriously? If anything the game was waaaaaaaaaay too easy due to the balancing. I'm not a shooter gamer and I suck at it but I plow through hard like its nothing now. Of course it let's you plow to the conversation really fast which is cool. 3. Comparisons with other Games. Sorry. Here's a point I really wanna adress. There's just so much in the review scores that doesn't make sense. They exist to give us a rough comparsion but..... honestly. For a recent example why was Mass Effect 2 not more attacked for it's really mediocre shooting and flawed level design (Seriously, Box, Box, Ramp, Box isn't really level design. they look pretty I guess?)? Why was it not that bad that the choices that carry over had nearly no effect in the second game even though it was advertised so heavily for it? It's still a really good and perfectly well made game and deserving of most of its scores but...... Sorry, yes I'm aware of the flaws. It's still an awful awful lot of hyperbole.
  18. Also, atleast from a story standpoint Kotor 2 was anything BUT average. Especially for the SW universe. Also SOZ at least had lots of fun combat in my opinion. I foung the OC weaker.
  19. Becuase VTM:B got a sequel, due to it's cult status. As did Freespace, Freelancer, Jedi Knight, Shemnue, PS:T etc. Even sadder is when cult games have got a new lease on life(FO/DX) they've been done by different devs. Freespace, Jedi Knight, Shenmue, Deus Ex (by the same devs) got one. PS:T is a license issue. Freelancer had several problems preventing it but is a candidat for a series that may be resurrected. Your point? (And yeah, DX2 wasn't too great but still by a lot of the same devs.)
  20. Hopefully, since there's a lot of potential and they'll probably have less problems with the tech, but I'm trying to not get my hopes up, since for now it's unlikely. Well, considering the general concisous towards this game has largly shifted towards the game (nice to see at example on gamefaqs) and Alpha Protocol has every chance to be a cult game I expect actually it to sell better down the line. But you're right we'll see. I just want to say it's too early to mourn.
  21. Uhmm, as much as it isn't fast selling.... AP isn't even a month out. A sequel can still be encouraged however if there are enough sales down the line. Happened before.
  22. That's actually one of the best combinations in the game.
  23. Because he has opinions and expresses them? O-kay. I can understand where some of the complaints come from, at any rate. Hitman: Blood Money one-ups AP with regards to stealth, infiltration and AI without compromising gunplay should the player want (or need to) shoot his way through a mission, and without pulling stupid **** like invisibility magicks. And, um, it's a 2006 game. Once again, the gameplay of an Obsid game just isn't up to par. Which could also lead to the argument that both games are in different gernes but whatever. I'm not gonna complain in Diablo that there are way too few RTS options. Still, the system could be strongly improved you're right. But especially because of the gerne I can forgive much.
