  1. Ah that's fair. It's been a long time since I last played either game.
  2. Also looks cold. I remember when Ultima VII: Part 2 actually required that you wear warm clothes before you went into the frozen parts of the land. That was neat.
  3. The "you" is very specific. You as in Orogun. This marketing campaign didn't work on you. You're someone that is pretty outspoken about not being all that keen on preordering Dragon Age 2 in the first place. You even stated how something like this doesn't make you want to reconsider. Since you're not even considering it to begin with, it's not all that surprising that adding this hasn't pushed you over the edge. I'm not sure what's so hard to follow about Gromnir's point.
  4. Because it doesn't sway you doesn't mean it doesn't sway anyone.
  5. Hasn't Activision stated that they denied paying Infinity Ward their bonuses? Or was it just that they denied paying West and Zampella?
  6. You don't strike me as the "undecided about DA2" type.
  7. Yes, and in spite of Black Ops being made by Treyarch (typically considered the inferior of the COD developers), it was still able to ride the insanely popular wave of Modern Warfare 2. For as bad as some people claim Modern Warfare 2 was, it certainly didn't hurt the popularity of the franchise at all. Unless you're going to argue that people decided to purchase it on Day One because it wasn't made by Infinity Ward (which is a bull**** claim), the only conclusion you can draw from the success of Black Ops is that Modern Warfare 2 continued to improve the exposure of the company. People talk with their wallets, and the sheer stupid volume of people playing Modern Warfare 2 when it came out indicates that people crying about lack of polish are probably just chest thumpers. The Modern Warfare franchise grew in popularity as a result of Modern Warfare 2. Regardless of what those thumping their chest would like you to believe. Even the stupid map packs were ridiculously good sellers. For a game that people allegedly thought was subpar? Please. So lacking in polish that people just couldn't wait to play more of it. If Modern Warfare 2 was such a step down, then why on Earth did people not display any hesitation whatsoever for Black Ops? Because they just knew that the lesser COD was going to make an even better game? Now for the speculative part: Activision is butthurt because of this whole situation, and is seeking this course of action in an attempt to save face. I think much of this attempt to save face goes back to things like Brutal Legend, which basically saw Electronic Arts reap the rewards for virtually no cost because Activision played the whole situation stupidly. There's no evidence at all that Modern Warfare has been sabotaged based on the numbers. Which means you are going to have to dig pretty damn deep to show signs of attempted sabotage. If they cannot prove that releasing the map pack when they did compromised sales, then this isn't going to bear much fruit for Activision.
  8. The EA stuff is a red herring. Activision needs to show that the timing of the release compromised their sales. Good luck with that. If Vince and Jason sabotaged Modern Warfare, they did a piss poor job of it. Black Ops did even better than Modern Warfare 2 did.
  9. I'm having a hard time determining where exactly the lightsource should be coming from, and hence which shadows are obviously missing. It seems like a pretty bright scene so I didn't really notice.
  10. They were still a part of the development. It's not like Hines went out and said FONV is all Bethesda.
  11. Pissy indeed. There was no shortage of vitriol from people tossing out obscenities at the BioBoards about how EA/BioWare are just money grubbers and that Shale should have just been included for free. There's been some lightweight versions of it in this thread, over a year after the fact. My "pissy" comment isn't to be in defense of BioWare, but rather the many outspoken people with intense entitlement issues. You probably don't check out the BioWare boards, but loud people can be pretty loud, especially when hiding behind the internet. So yes, I defended BioWare (what your nonsensical parenthetical remark had to do with anything I don't know. If you're up for questioning my credibility, you've already demonstrated poor judgment with your inappropriate pedophila jokes). Indignation indeed. Did I defend BioWare? Sure. I tend to be outspoken against people I see as being rather indignant on the internet (i.e. the people expressing outrage at DLC like Warden's Keep and Shale). Must have struck a nerve I guess. Stop saying stupid stuff (and making indignant ad hominem attacks), and maybe people won't call you out on it any more. How you failed to comprehend my point is surprising, given you're clearly not actually a person of poor intelligence. Maybe you're just trying to rile people up? HA! Good fun!
  12. really? "What I am saying is that without a DLC team to work on it, Shale wouldn't have been accessible to people at all." aren't we all so very lucky that the dlc crew were able to prevent the stillbirth o' shale? LOL! That's a retort to people that get all pissy because Shale should have just been included with the main game and the conspiracy theory that Shale was removed specifically to become DLC to nickel and dime gamers. I don't feel "lucky" that Shale survived as DLC. It's just content that was made for sale as DLC that otherwise wouldn't have been finished.
  13. I don't think anyone here suggested that DLC was "nobly inspired."
  14. Deus Ex was a pretty long game in my experience. It could have ended at like 3 different spots if it wanted to too. I was a pretty patient player playing through it though as I typically played stealth.
  15. I think that that might be a bit of a simplification of the matter. I don't even know about any post combat high heightened sexuality to begin with...
  16. Yes and he had his weapons training and whatnot, but was not a part of a regiment that actively sought to take the combat to the enemy, or was ever given specific orders the revolved around combat (offensive or defensive). The reality of the matter is that in a war **** can hit the fan though, whether your officially a combatant or not. So is the issue then that women are not given combat pay when their non-combat unit enters a combat situation? Because the best I've been able to find right now is a link here which indicates that even if women are not eligible for combat roles, they will still receive combat pay if they end up in a combat zone during their deployment. The link isn't the most confidence inducing though. As with infantry, I am of the mind that if the women meet the standardized physical requirements for the role, I have no issue with them being put into artillery or armor placements either.
  17. What do you mean by "women are in combat" compared to "women being in combat roles." My grandfather was a mechanic in WW2, and was wounded by a piece of shrapnel in combat. But he was a mechanic... wounded while on base. I wouldn't say he was in a combat position yet still faced combat.
  18. From the point of view of the publisher they don't see any money, but it's still very different than the situation Orchomene describe. Orchomene basically says "Why bother buying used, when you can pirate and get more for free!" I also suspect that someone that buys the game used are probably more likely to buy the DLC than a pirate would I imagine. Which would still result in some compensation for the devs and publisher.
  19. You ascribed a value to the virtual material when there was no reason to do so. If you're going to be a douche about something, at least make sure there's something there to be a douche about.
  20. All he did was stating what he was doing in a game in a "What are you playing now?" thread...
  21. I hope Minecraft helps nudge that graphics need not be the end all be all.
