  1. Weren't you the one equating moving in in defense of a sovereign nation asking for help and the United States' 2003 invasion of Iraq as being the same thing?
  2. I'm arguing that simply describing a scene today is insufficient, now that so many game engines have the ability to explicitly show it. I would love it if PST didn't have to rely on describing the visual images in Grace's "brothel." I would consider it value added if the NPCs also had full VO since I loved their partial VO. I would bet that a text heavy game today would be as successful as a text heavy game back then. That is, profitable, but it'll take a while to get there (which is exactly what Planescape Torment was). Except, if you're doing it with an engine from 3-4 years ago instead of the infinity engine, your cost of development goes up creating the art assets.
  3. I remember accidentally falling off that roof and obliterating myself
  4. You do know that Obsidian is made up from the ex-members of Black Isle the creators of the Fallout series, right? If anything FO3 should be more like NV. Yes I'm well aware of Obsidian's history. What I'm confused about is Krezack's post, especially since Eidos isn't going back to its roots at all, especially if people like Crash Girl have anything to say about it (see previous allegations that this game is being made for stupid people). Never going to happen because of something you later talk fallaciously talk about regarding engine: Much of the atmosphere and whatnot are a direct result of the engine. Specifically, that everything needed to be done via text descriptions. Lets face it though, such descriptions aren't going to work as well any more because the bar has been set. Just look at all the people that, while still liking FONV, gripe about Gamebryo and it's poor graphics. Many "old schoolers" live in denial that they don't care about engine capabilities and the graphical details of games today, but their commentary indicates otherwise when it comes down to actually critiquing games. I guarantee that if you were to release a game today with either the Infinity Engine or the original Fallout engine, the game will be relegated to niche product immediately. In spite of your claims that the market for such games has grown.
  5. So FONV should have been more like... FO3? Or are you saying they should just go and make a new Planescape style game with some top down iso game?
  6. Meh to inventory tetris, but all in all the trailer was wowzah IMO.
  7. I liked Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. /shrug
  8. Coincidence? I think not!
  9. Their changes to JA2's inventory system were positively phenomenal! Love it SO much.
  10. ED-E is indeed the first one if you don't go madly off the beaten path.
  11. Boo, I definitely would not say DAO had good art style. DA2's looks unique to me. I could break down individual components of it and say "this looks to be from here, and that looks to be from something else" but the synergy of it looks unique. Though we haven't seen much aside from the opening area.
  12. So for thirst, does one bottle=one dose or are they reusable if what you need to drink isn't actually 100? Each bottle is fully consumed if you drink it. Which means I only ever drink if I shift to minor dehydration (200 level thirst). Food was rarely an issue because I usually ate to heal. I also liked to be well rested and enjoyed sleeping in my queen size bed
  13. Survival adds a huge RP element IMO. I liked not eating uncooked food in my first playthrough, and when a single water bottle was restoring over 100 water, it meant that working within the weight capacity of my character was significantly easier. Heck, I even used the recipe to make 30 purified waters from 30 dirty waters.
  14. higher Survival's biggest benefit IMO is getting more out of the food you eat (more satiation, more HP, etc). On hardcore I usually eat about 10 different types of food which can give me some absurd health regen
  15. I was referring to the specific difference between the 1991 Gulf War and the more recent war in Iraq though.
  16. I use Novac as well. It has two crafting benches nearby too. Making ammo is fun for me in a weird sort of way too And I do the same organization with my weapons and whatnot. Though I keep guns and ammo together. When I return to base to rearm, a bit of me feels like the Terminator or something (hey he was in a hotel room too! )
  17. Soda shouldn't dehydrate you. I just suspend my disbelief and assume it's one hell of a diuretic.
  18. If it's a repair quest, I just do it with a repair skill, or move on. I think it's cool that tin cans can be used in a quest or recipies and stuff, but there's enough of them that I won't bother hoarding them. At the same time, I have no issues skipping a quest that has me do stuff like that if it's not something my character is interested in doing.
  19. Why make a distinction? What would be the point? The US attacked Iraq in 1991, then Iraq were put on sanctions for a decade before being ruthlessly bombed AGAIN in 2003. What would be the point of measuring the "well being" of the Iraqi people in that disastrous decade between the two wars? You can argue the sanctions, but at the same time, Iraq was on the decline BEFORE 1991, and I am curious if you think that the UN should not have intervened on behalf of Kuwait? Saddam Hussein was also an aggressor that invaded a country in 1991. Your argument loses weight since the 1991 Gulf War was Saddam Hussein's fault, not the US (or anyone else's).
  20. A trillion dollar deficit? Jebus.
  21. This was my second time through Repconn (I have beaten the game once already). The first time I had Boone which made it significantly easier. This time I tried alone and I didn't want to use up all my Doctor's Bags since stimpacks do not heal limbs. (Playing on Hardcore also encourages me to put some points into Survivalist to get the most out of my food and water, so that I don't over burden my inventory with them.) I used the .357 against the mutants though, not the energy weapons (though the RCW did fine after I returned with Veronica helped out). Although I don't have the OCD to pick up everything though so the weight limit is not an issue for me. Besides, I have high luck so getting money is no problem. If it's not worth more than 100 caps in value on the info screen when picking it up, I don't bother anymore. A friend of mine pretty much traded in every tin can he found.... ugh that would have been a nightmare. I'm unaware of a peaceful solution to the Nightkin problem. I considered just murdering the ghouls to appease Manny so he can tell me where Benny went, but whenever I bump into the named Nightkin NPC he gets ragey on me. No option to talk.
  22. Is there a specific game that shares DA2's art style though? You said "pick any random" but I know you don't mean that (since I used The Witcher). I am actually unaware of one.
  23. Were your sources confusing the 2003 war with the 1991 war? Because I'd be surprised if you felt the UN shouldn't have intervened in response to Saddam's invasion of Kuwait. Because it seems like the glory years of Iraq's education system came before the 1990 (i.e. before the Gulf War). The article you linked earlier regarding infant mortality rate is also pre-post 1991 Gulf War. Serious question: Are you criticizing the war in 2003, or the 1991 war?
  24. I wouldn't be surprised if there was some symbolism in tossing the salt at them. They are also brits
  25. Isn't she talking to Varric to learn about the PC?
