MP and Modding?
WorstUsernameEver replied to nicethugbert's topic in Dungeon Siege III: General Discussion
Well, I like being melodramatic once in a while. But I do feel that, unless Obsidian refines their games (mainly dealing with lack of polish, bad balance, not-so-impressive visuals), they will be in a very very precarious position. I doubt the bad buzz will affect Fallout : New Vegas much, but it has to be a really polished, really well executed game, otherwise they probably will have a lot, and I mean, a lot of problems. Frankly I do think that, at least on the mechanics side, there won't be problems going by what I've heard by Josh Sawyer and the crew, but on the polishing side? It's difficult to know. The team does seem to have the right priorities though, which is, at least a little bit reassuring. As for branching out with smaller projects, I hope, really hope they do. Maybe, just maybe the 'internal project' is just that? It would be a really smart move on Obsidian's part, and Feargus is not a dumb guy at all when it comes to business, while still being really passionate about what he does (or at least that's the impression I've got from the interviews etc.). But I do feel we're going OT. -
Well, Feargus will probably take that into consideration, and they've probably discussed it with Red Eagle. Now, when it comes to funding.. let's admit it, it doesn't sound very promising, the whole 'announced the deal when we actually don't have the funds'.
-
By the way, returning on the original topic, I found this snippet of Feargus' interview interesting: So the arrangement there, which is kind of explained in the press release, is that Red Eagle Games wants to do it. They have the license to do it, and we

So who is working on this game?

Good to hear. Though, correct me if I'm wrong, but since Obsidian (I think I've seen Chris Avellone saying that, but don't quote me on that) now wants to work primarily on Onyx, doesn't that mean that the masterplan is that all the (forgive me for the crude definition, but I'm not a developer, and it's already difficult for me to remember the difference between a jr designer and a lead world builder ) tech guys like you become familiar with the engine? Feel free to answer with a 'this is stupid' or 'I'm not sure what the hell you're trying to say', especially since the sentence structure came up much more confusing than I'd hope. -
Like 'I can't see what the hell is going on but I guess I'll comment anyway since IT'S THE INTERNET'.

There was a "pre-pre-alpha" video posted once actually. A blurry preproduction video you mean?
-
With all its jaggies and problems, not to mention that it wasn't really used all that well. As for Onyx, we still haven't seen it in action, excluding a couple of pre-alpha leaked Aliens screen (and they certainly continued developing it after that game was canceled), but the reaction to the visuals of the preview was impressively positive, especially considering Obsidian's previous track record.

I found the combat in Baldur's Gate to be a little quicker, mostly because instead of making every encounter at least moderately challenging like in Dragon Age, a good portion of them were simply mindless hack & slash fun to give you experience. Still, both BG & BGII were quite combat-heavy and grindy games.

At this point it's difficult to say, since I'm not really sure what the game industry terminology is and there isn't much context. (My) speculation is that it's a low budget, probably 2d, game that will be distributed through direct download / Live Arcade / PSN services instead of retail, kinda like DeathSpank, since the team is apparently small enough and they seem to be hiring a flash animator (yeah, the logic here is wonky on my part ). Again, until they announce something it's all speculation at this point.

Cool. Aliens. -
Since Feargus also mentioned in the same interview that there was an internal project in the works at Obsidian that he wanted to show very soon, yeah, it's safe to assume that it isn't the unannounced project.
-
Last time it was referenced was the GameBanshee Feargus Urquhart interview, and he said that basically Red Eagles is still trying to find ways to fund their games, so for now they still haven't started development.

I think the term you were looking for is 'R00fles!'. -
They probably could have posted the whole cover art instead of just a magnified corner, but overall, it looks nice. There's apparently a lot of detail going on, and it pictures the idea of a populated post-apocalyptic city much better than what both the old and the new engine could.
-
Granted, they may have not used those exact words, but I've read all of those complaints there. Granted, not from exactly the same user, and they're not an hivemind, but it still fits the hardcore fallout fan mentality more than what you usually see here (where actually, things like the orbital laser and the super mutant with a wig were defended).

I think its an "extreme example", not actually a reflection of you or your post. Problem is, almost all his "extreme examples" fit more NMA than this forum.
-
Then again, what would be a Fallout without his narration? You mean this? Because I was the one writing that message, and I don't see how that == RAEGING ABOUT NO RON PERLMAN, SO NO FALLOUT!!11!!

To be fair Gromnir, most of the 'typical anime' you're talking about doesn't bill itself as 'mature' as Dragon Age does.
