Yeah, it's not like it's planned to one-up them like that. It's just the way I act. I got hammered with the old school chivalry and politeness which a fair few lost when it was considered non-pc and anti-feminist. As for the origami cranes.. If I'm not careful I tend to go on autopilot and make frogs. And it was more just a doodling around while a couple of folks vigerously discussed their parts of the evenings bill. So again, not exactly a planned "hit".

For the somewhat amusing anecdote, I was out at a restaurant with a group of mates and they'd all brought their assorted girlfriends.. But for some reason I was the only guy who was doing things like opening the door for the girls with us or pulling out the chairs to help them. Then at the end of the meal when we were sorting out the bill, I randomly turned the receipt into an origami crane and propped it on the bottle of wine... The girls promptly had this talk about how if their bf's had acted the way I had, and then ended a date with a "charming gesture" such as the origami crane, they'd have probably gotten lucky that night. And I then had them quizzing me on why I didn't have any date along since I was behaving like that naturally rather then putting it on for their benefits.

Make sure wherever you take her is somewhere you can actually talk without having to scream over background noise... The theatre can work, but doesn't provide huge amounts of room for talking during whatever show is on, and likewise dancing tends to have lots of background noise (especially depending on what type of dancing and where you go). You need some place you can converse, and see what connections you can make and just what interests you all might have. That and be calm and confident. Heh, I remember hearing a thing about how beautiful women actually don't get hit on sensibly a lot because most guys will feel they are "out of their league" and as such don't bother. So when someone does, if they're half-way charming they're already ahead of the game...

Pretty much any book that provides a campaign world, or an adventure will have a slew of maps in it relating to whatever it's talking about. Oh, if you're just looking to explore it all for young kids like that, there is a "Pathfinder Beginner's Box" which covers the basics, the dice, and a few other useful things. They also have a bunch of free pdf's that you can get hold of.. http://paizo.com/beginnerbox

Here Comes the Boom. Kevin James as 42 year old biology teacher given in to apathy who ends up getting a reawakening to save fellow teacher Henry Winkler's job and attempts to raise money for the music program by getting into mixed martial arts out of school... One of those odd films that follows the standards of the genre, and isn't particularly great (although Salma Hayak is one of the supporting characters) but still somehow manages to be fairly uplifting. Although the finale bit of Viva America and the whole push on America the land of Dreams is a wee bit over the top.

Every now and again Windows Explorer throws a corruption that causes it to utilise ridiculous amounts of the CPU. One of the easiest fixes is to transfer things out of that profile you want to keep, delete the profile, then create a new one. And it'll all be fine again. One of the many weirdness things of Microsoft Windows...

The Core Rulebook as stated is the important one. The Bestiary is helpful for all the monsters provided.. If you don't want to put the effort into creating a world of your own (which sometimes can turn out a bit awkwardly, especially first goes) then Pathfinder's "Inner Sea World Guide" provides a rather nicely done campaign world. One of the things Paizo do is to run "Adventure Paths" where over a 6 month period they publish a linked campaign adventure arc. Each month is a different adventure , and over the course of the entire thing you can take the pc's from 1st level to 15th-20th (depending on the particular Adventure Path). They generally provide all the world detail you need to run them, assorted extra backgrounds that might relate, and a few ideas for filling out things between the adventures. The Kingmaker one that's been mentioned is interesting, but adds element of "kingdom building" rules and a lot of fuzzy areas to work with, so might not be the best for someone/group starting out. They recently released the collected anniversary edition of Rise of the Runelords adventure path, which is much more of the "traditional" style of campaign adventure that might be worth a look just to see how it feels. Regardless, as has been said, if you're willing to hash around with it yourself, all you need are the core rulebook, some dice, and friends willing to give it a try.

John Dies At the End. A little weird, a touch surreal, but amusing in parts.

Drive - eh, somewhat entertaining but it left me feeling like the main character was a little bit..slow. Or just way too focused on specfic things while completely blank on a whole lot of other things. But good music and some nice visuals.

Legally Obscene: Rape, Statutory Rape, and Child Support

I have to say, the occasions I've heard about honor killings haven't actually involved Muslims as such. The one's I remember hearing about tended to be more more from India and in a lot of ways part of the caste system as well. -

The art of Vendetta and Blood Feud don't get quite the same spin as Honor Killings these days. The term honor killings tends to be focused more in the behaviour used in "cleansing the family/blood line" rather then going after an external source. -
I haven't been able to get the gaming urge for the last few weeks. I think I've only managed about 5 hours of TOR in the past fortnight... I just don't seem to have the gaming mojo flowing.

heh, yes, actually there's a picture from a couple of years ago that might higlight my comment about WoD books.. Note the "twin stack" towards the back of the picture. That's just WoD rpg books.... Unfortunately the D&D stuff isn't in this picture.. Although there's a glimpse of the Shadowrun Denver boxed set in the corner... -

I think he's gotten "honor killings" the wrong way around. The whole honor killings is where the family of the raped girl kill said raped girl, because the fact that some **** raped her stains the family honor and it's all her fault. So by killing her, it wipes the stain away. I don't think he means that's justice... -
..and the german shepard has figured out how to open the baby gate we use to block him off from areas of the house at times.. And he looks so pleased when he does it. It's that "wow! look at me, I'm smart! Aren't I good?" expression.

I really need to get my sleep patterns in order again. Generally not falling asleep till that 3-4am, and then waking up at around 8am for an hour or so of dozing in and out on the edge of consciousness... Doesn't really set you up for a focused and productive day....
