Seriously Britain, you need another Jack the Ripper if a cat in a dump is news.

Mindless Entertainment + High Quality = ???

But once you destroy everything in Guerilla, what next? Though I did love that game. Destroy these two buildings! *run into one, destroying stairs so nobody can follow* *nuke the building next door* *jump out window and nuke the first building* *FLEEE* Yeah, I loved that game. Until I saw myself knee deep on EDF goons every mission, plus most of the upgrades are not that great, the sidequest and the main mission make no sense. But it has pretty destruction so everything is forgiven, -
Just like in a SRPG And where does the RTS part come in? The world map, managing resources to level up troops in a short time, and picking the right classes for the job whilst using the capital to build them up.

Impossible, for a state to be considered healthy it requires all those working together. It is fairly impossible for those to occur simultaneously. It's a kind of a Maslow social hierarchy of needs, safety and physiological needs come first than politics i'm afraid. The best political course of action is actual action, solve their problems and make your "idol" look good, soon you'll have an unifying messiah. If you can't find one make one.

This would only work if the statements come from a trusty source and for them that means someone they can relate to. If a westerner starts reforming their religious views they will respond with hostile force, even with one of their own the are bound to be dissent. It is precisely that kind of division that allows the current situation. There first must be an unification of sorts, at least a form of communication that's trusted and reliable for all the country. But most important the presence of enforcement in these remote areas. Charismatic people like that are hard to find, plus with no discernible medium of communication he would have to risk going to a lot of these villages. Even if we could charm everyone this only works as a long term plan, with the area as it is the most likely outcome is either the death of said person or a list of demands by each village. Stability should come first before solidification, the area is simply not stable enough that people will listen to promises.

I guess i'm a bit of an optimist. Still is sort of nice to have a backdoor into what the government is doing, the way the America media is, they could be gang-raping the Afghans and we wouldn't know about it.

The fact that some people have started calling it the secret war and that this country seems more focused on a Mosque and beating down Obama rather than on the War. The media has forgotten the war. Is not that they have completely forgotten it, is just that is sitting on the back of their minds and this is still an issue.

Poll suggests 1 in 5 Americans cannot make simple factual assessments
Orogun01 replied to Walsingham's topic in Way Off-Topic
I disagree. Up until bombs were falling on Pearl Harbor the general public was clamoring for an isolationist approach to foreign relations so its not like being a superpower is all weve ever known. There is a great difference in the zeitgeist back then. Americana hadn't started, which is what people refer to when they speak of the "good old days" of America. Also back then we weren't as stupid, sad but true. -
The comparison really doesn't stand since what most individuals do has a limited impact on the world. The attempt was misguided and naive but it has brought back the subject of the war on everyone's radar and people need reminding that there is still a war out there that we are involved in. On a more personal note I believe that i'm somewhat entitled to know what my government is doing with my money; as long as it doesn't put lives in danger.

Started Disciples III yesterday, first impression is RTS meets SRPG. Very long and tedious moments with nothing to do, the difficulty scale is a little skewered and yet the game is strangely addictive.

Poll suggests 1 in 5 Americans cannot make simple factual assessments
Orogun01 replied to Walsingham's topic in Way Off-Topic
You underestimate America's need to have the biggest **** in the world, being a superpower is as American as apple pie. Why, the day we aren't in a war or dictating the fate of the world we won't have anything to do. It is indirectly related to the subject since the lost of status will make Americans crazy and basically any idiot that runs with an ad saying that they can get us back to our former glory will garner the most support. -

I kind of see a parable here with the Roman empire, it wasn't built in one day and it definitively wasn't destroyed in one. It took a succession of petty emperors, if the damage done by Bush isn't fixed I see the US losing its status as the world foremost superpower. -

So, it's still quite a jump from following an economic model to thinking you're the heir of the ancient lemurians and that jews have a secret plot to take over the world. But then again Americans do think that Obama=Hitler. Let's face it the free enterprise is down is up to whether we can interest the eastern market in investing that it will recover. -

Cut him a little slack, it was 8 years with the Bush administration which stands today as the worst. That's a whole of a mess to clean. -
It has a bearing because it was not only the hippies that were into drugs, soldier that had developed an opiate habit overseas had now a drug problem back home. Plus it was the presence of hippies and all of their political movement that indirectly launched the drug war, since it was the only way for Nixon to nail them. It also made the US the prime consumer for all the drug lords of south america and as soon as entrepreneurial spirits picked on the success of the drug trade they found their way into the US. Plus the traffic of marijuana also gave way for the cocaine overflow of the 80's since cocaine was easier to move by the bulk and more profitable traders changed product.
-
Yet that still wasn't enough since those groups lack the resources to effectively fight the drug trade which went through a great revival in the 70's. When the war against drugs; with his clear political agenda was launched. The demand from soldiers coming back from combat and the hippies made America probably the biggest drug consumer in the world.
-
The problem is that Americans have no self control when it comes to consumption, so most of these drugs that are still being abused are just being opened to a wider audience. Before I emit a piercing shriek, may I politely enquire where you got this idea? I'm talking here just from an American perspective since I don't know the legislation history of other countries. In early 1900's; IIRC, the safe food and drugs act passed which required that every product put on the label the ingredients and dosage and to be subject to federal inspection. At the time a lot of drugs that hadn't been properly tested and whose long term effects were unknown were being added to almost every product with a pitch sale of being a magical ingredient. Please, keep your temper down

not like it actually proves your point. but are you sure about that? I mean teh witcher was a NWN total conversion at first, not a standalone game. the development started right when the aurora tools came out. That's because the Witcher uses the Aurora tools It's a vicious cycle!

...and there have not been any drug epidemics ever since... None related to giving your kids cocaine laced candy or the actual "Coca-Cola", and that's why; gentlemen, people used to beat kids savagely.
-
Actually cocaine was given as an incentive to black workers because it's stimulant properties. Then came along the whole "cocaine crazed negro rapes white woman" and the cops asking for higher caliber guns. There are a lot of politics involved in drug legislation that have nothing to do with the harmful effects of drugs, the current war against drugs was a result of said causes and had mostly little to do with drugs.

Dragon Age's advertising has always been terrible. More melodramatic or NEW **** than the actual game turned out to be. Not that Origins didn't at least try to be dark, edgy, and brooding. They were just smart enough to toss in three characters that were actually FUN to balance it out. I only count 2, who's the third?
