I'm not sure why this made me laugh so much, it's actually not a bad song.

It may be a syntax problem. Maybe try something like: string[] arr = line.Split(new char [] {'\t'});

The full story is actually that we were playing together and he asked me where I was from and when I answered Sweden, he asked where that was. I explained to him that it is one of the most northern countries in Europe, further north than Siberia. He was very intrigued by this but I wanted to play so I started answering his question more and more outlandish, he just never caught on. The penguin story came from him asking what we did up there in all the snow and I answered that we hunt for penguins and run from polar bears, "and, in fact, I caught a penguin today that I will have for breakfast tomorrow". I was copy-pasting this whole conversation to my guild I was in at the time.. it was hilarious. I wish I could find the logs. No, they're much faster than they look.. the bastards. Did I use too big words for you? is not mean anything *snort* just funny story HA! Better? I don't think anyone is going to argue against the best universities in the world being in the USA. Still, it's easy to argue against that list. One of the best universities in the world lies in Moscow. On that list it is ranked number 74 (80 if you use the 2012 version). 74'th place in the world is not bad.. except they produce a stunning amount of Nobel prize winners and math/physics scientists and professors. So why are they not ranked higher? A simple click reveals why: http://www.shanghair...tate University "Data unavailable" seems to be the most common descriptor on that page. Now click on any American university and compare the tables. Not easy to rank when 90% of the data is missing. Also, this list puts a big emphasis on published articles and cited researchers. Since Russia and the Eastern bloc publishes their findings in other media channels than the western world, and they usually don't bother to translate it to English.. Well, I think you get the point.

I once fooled an American guy on a MUD that because I was from Sweden, which is very far north, I would eat a penguin for breakfast the next morning. I have never been able to do that to any other nationality. It says nothing about anything, but I thought it was funny.

In the PC version, that was not actually a glitch. It was an alternate way of finishing the quest, kind of a bad solution. I don't remember exactly where, but you just had to go to another place to get the good ending.

I do agree that Fear had the best enemy AI. But no FPS has surprised me as much as Far Cry, when I went into a ventilation duct to hide and a soldier crawled after me in there!

Yes. It looked like crap then, it looks like crap now. Grey, plain and oh so nondescript. You could never tell if you were in the first level or the last level or anything in between because they were all grey. I think they used like.. one texture for the entire game.

Yeah, I got some emails about my account being hacked too, but I put them on the trash list so I didn't have to see the mails in my inbox. I don't give a **** what happens to my account since I'm extremely unlikely to ever play a Blizzard game again.

Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate II Enhanced Editions Announced
mkreku replied to Lorfean's topic in Computer and Console
Sure he isn't. Well, that's one way of putting it. At least a more interesting discussion than the one suggested by the overaged LARP:er. I am somewhat interested in these new versions of Baldur's Gate since I could never get into them once I got an opportunity to play them, despite me enjoying the original Gold Box games immensely (especially the AD&D Pool of Radiance). In the back of my head I've wondered why but not given it much thought. Then I read this board and this thread and it struck me that you guys waste 10 pages discussing which rules should be used in the game. For me, this is a totally pointless discussion, and the fact that you feel that there's a need to discuss this AND you think it is normal needing to explain to some other player what he needs to do to be able to play the game efficiently.. I don't know what to say here. If you guys can't see what's wrong with that picture, then there's not much to discuss. I am not after a game with so basic rules that the game plays itself or so simplistic rules that it becomes an FPS (no idea how that would happen, but you said it). But the rules need to be abstracted enough for them to be invisible to the player, and work so well that you don't need to go on a geek board or read rule books to play the game efficiently, otherwise I would consider them and the game broken. I suspect I lost interest in the later editions of D&D games, not because the rules became too complex (they're actually not difficult or complex, just convoluted and uninteresting, for me), but because it feels like playing rules instead of games. But you guys seem to enjoy mulling over these rules. To each their own. -
Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate II Enhanced Editions Announced

I love how the overaged orc impersonator is insinuating, in his own not so subtle or clever way, that enjoying meta-gaming and reading rule books is somehow connected to intelligence. Whatever.. dude. -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCiY1y3uJ3o I love to see the reactions of people. Surprisingly positive!

Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate II Enhanced Editions Announced
mkreku replied to Lorfean's topic in Computer and Console
Rules matter, but which rules does not. If it suits the game, it doesn't matter what they're called. Usually, the less I know about the rules, the more I enjoy the game. -
I agree. Great game, just not quite up to the standards set by Piranha Bytes previous work. And what bugs? I thought it was surprisingly bug free.
-
Seriously, you need to record this on film and send it to me. I just can't picture adults sitting around a table with a a pen and paper, impersonating orcs and elves. Maybe there are movies of this on Youtube already? Time to go a-searchin'!

Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate II Enhanced Editions Announced

You guys are wayyy too obsessed with rules. -
They don't. And I thought it was an excellent game with normal RPG inventory management, a semi-open world that allows you to travel freely, good storyline, fun quests, really great (and varied!) boss battles, lots of frantic action, excellent weapon system, etc. Funny how taste differs, huh?

If they release a PS3 ultra slim, I'm getting one. Tired of my noisy, fat Xbox 360 and having to pay to be able to play online. I also need a Blu-Ray player.

Stalker was dead. This rumour, if true, might bring it back. What is there to complain about? If you don't like Bethesda all you have to do is not play their games. Why whine about it? I would rather see a new Stalker made by Bethesda than no Stalker at all. One of the best game series I've played.

Oops. I just died in Path of Exile HC. Reached level 66 so I'm pretty proud of that. The end-game is still not enough as it stands. The maps are still too rare and there is no point to going to them after a few days of playing. Sure, you can get different maps, but they are small and mostly the same, meaning after a few hours you've seen them all. And the only reason for you to go to a map is to try to get better equipment.. which after a while becomes extremely tedious. There's no story arc or anything driving you on. Maybe I'll go back to it after act 3 is released (when open beta is released, sometime later this year). Until then, I'm done with Path of Exile. It was fun for a while and I recommend it for people bored of Diablo 3.

I just beat the Act 2 boss.. Yes, I was stupid enough to risk it all. But I did it. Got very close to dying on two different occasions, but was lucky and survived. It was not one of my best fights :/ I was very nervous. So.. Now I have the wonderful world of maps open to me! Except.. now I'm afraid of maps instead (you never know what to expect inside them). Great.

Still in the race in Path of Exile Hardcore. Reached level 60, which really is no big deal, you can do it in 2-3 days, but.. http://www.pathofexile.com/ladder/index/league/2+Week+HC+Race Right now (at the time of writing) that places me in 19'th! When I fell asleep I was in place 23 or something, when I woke up I was in place 20. Creepy. Now I'm not sure what to do. At level 60, if you are alive at the end of the race, you're awarded a good amount of orbs (the game's currency). If you're on the top 20, you'll get even more rewards. But right now, in the game, I'm at a place that's so dull. I have not had time to find good equipment (which is critical for a melee based build) so I don't dare to try the end game boss. But if I don't do the end game boss I can't get the really good equipment and I am basically forced to play the same zone over and over. To play in the random maps, you need to beat the end boss.. The end boss can one-shot you. So.. do I risk all my levels to be able to advance further (and have fun again) or do I leave it where it is and do the occasional grind run? I'm stupid enough to go for the one-shotting boss. We will see.

I am still playing Path of Exile Beta. It really got a new lease of life with the maps (they fixed it so that all enemies in Act 2 of the final difficulty can drop maps now). Plus, they are having a two week long Hardcore race right now, so I am trying to play in that. It means that you play the game for two weeks, and when the two weeks are over, the person with the highest player level (or in case of the same level, the most experience points) win. If you die, you are out. Believe me, this is difficult! I had a character up to level 49, but it died. Am now on another character, currently at level 38.. taking it veeery safely. Oh, and Path of Exile has an open beta stress test this weekend, if any of you guys are interested in trying the game. It is good.

Btw, I counted my last run: 18 rare monsters (yellow) + the act 2 boss. No maps dropped. Back to the beginning.. after a 15 minute waiting period (for some reason the zone reset function doesn't work for me).
