  1. EA's financials specified both DA2 and DS2 at "over 2 mil SOLD", not shipped. Sold in ~ shipped "Crysis 2, Dead Space 2 and Dragon Age 2 each SOLD IN more than 2 million units" See as contrast "Mass Effect 2
  2. I'm also just dying of curiosity how this first what if thread differs from the last one?
  3. I'd put it more down to selfishness than complacency, an extreme case of the free rider problem, if you will.
  4. Greece's problem is that corruption essentially extends to every conceivable part of the society (cab drivers were repeatedly on strike when it was suggested that they should give out receipts), strong left-wing parties who make sure that the populace a) has no basic concept of economics b) is always ready to blame the "capitalists" for all problems in their life c) the politicians realised LONG ago that they can use the people's own money to buy votes from them. I've lived there for some years, I could write an essay on it. On the plus side, contrary to popular belief, Italy and Spain do not have a monopoly to smoldering hot brunettes. Probably the hottest girl I've dated in my life was Greek. Of course, we also had a 4-floor house in central Athens at the time, and chix dig bux. Edit: you can't blame the structural issues on the Euro, they essentially go back as far as Byzantium.

  6. I doubt it was all that, DA2 sold over 2mil, so at least a lot of stupid frat boys like me seem to have liked it. Dude. Bro. DA2's reception was an interesting (group) psychological phenomenon overall, and IMO had very little to do with the quality of the game.
  7. I can recommend Edgar Schein's Process Consultation Revisited - Building the Helping Relationship as it includes a pretty nifty crash course on things like how people perceive each other. I approached this book with a lot of trepidation (due to the name), but have found it generally fascinating. It's a ****ty course book, though, 4/5 lists.
  8. While I'm moderately enjoying Arkham Asylum, I'm not finding its combat system particularly captivating. Happily, there's been enough variation in gameplay so far to keep it somewhat interesting. I've actually gotten so bored with it a couple of times I've gone back to reading process consultation, so I guess I should be happy it hasn't been ****ing up tomorrow's exam.
  9. Am I the only one who finds it ironic that *you* say that?
  10. I've had a former ice hockey defenseman reorder a large portion of my muscles on a monthly basis for over ten years now. Lots of ladies have come and gone during that time. And my back thanks me for it.
  11. it isn't Who's games would you not buy if the games industry went belly up?
  12. That's always a smart thing to do! (not really)
  13. I wouldn't be surprised if someone was genuinely confused if that wasn't the real purpose of this forum, tbh.
  14. If it's Deus Ex, yes it is. That gas station has two major elements of reactivity that in normal games would've been met with a "game over" screen. Bet you can't name them.
  15. I almost let out a throaty laugh and stopped reading at this point, but I'm glad you didn't. Everything else you say is pretty much right on the money. Well, either it doesn't enable you to draw conclusions, or you have piss-poor taste in games. Or both. I mean, whining about the gas station?! If you're on such a nit-picking spree, I think the monkies at the local zoo could use some delousing!
  16. Found that unopened Arkham Asylum I've had for a year or something. Now taking it for a whirl (instantrimshot).
  17. Been reading Schein's Process Consultation Revisited. Very interesting, and a lot of "oh, I hadn't thought about that!" situations. Wonder if I'll ever be able to put any of this stuff to use, or if it'll just make me more bitter, being subject to people who don't grasp even the faintest notions of what leadership is.
  18. Hey, man, we have souls. The title to them may or may not be clouded by remainder interests subject to contractual conditions subsequent, but nearly every lawyer I know still retains present possessory rights of enjoyment of that particular asset. Except divorce lawyers. Even you have to admit they deserve a beating. Anyone who takes such cruel delight in the ruin and suffering of their fellow human beings deserves bad things. Eh, I think the malice comes from the divorcee's not the lawyers. ... and spending a lot of time with people like that. Of course, anyone who actually chooses to specialise in divorces... Yeah.
  19. Hey, man, we have souls. The title to them may or may not be clouded by remainder interests subject to contractual conditions subsequent, but nearly every lawyer I know still retains present possessory rights of enjoyment of that particular asset. The biggest marketing coup people with business administration degrees ever managed to pull was convince people that it's the lawyers who are greedy. Kind of like how people don't kill people, guns kill people.
  20. Probably not worth it, if you aren't really into it. The first one gave some semi-interesting background on the gameworld, but the second one was, IIRC, absolutely dire. I think I read both of them in a plane, hmm... :D
  21. I am all for this. But that's mostly what goes on even in this subforum?
  22. There's a very different use of brownie points if its gf/wife related... Edit: And for the continuation of Muah-Hah-Hah! - My sister arrived home from work, gave me a frowny look, did a "you bastard" and is now going to look at more 'computer porn' on the alienware site. I'm so happy I can't get Alienware in Finland (I don't think they even do a scandinavian keyboard layout, though I'm pretty sure the lucky Swedes probably get both), so there isn't even the temptation of wasting money on it.
