  1. Might clear up my blocked sinuses. :D
  2. I guess that's where we clue on to the fact that I'm not American, eh, Gromnir? With the current overeducation levels, I am positive that you will find out sooner than later that being unemployed doesn't make you a loser. Dont feel bad about yourself, Im sure you will eventually find a job. In the mean time just kick back and suckle the teat of "the rich". You deserve it via simple accident of birth. Oh, I've never been unemployed. I just don't think it makes me a better person than those who have been. (I'd like to think that mentioning that I'm going to start as a lobbyist for the banking sector would make the irony here absolutely overwhelming and possibly you reconsider your black and white view of the world and my opinions, but I no longer have such high hopes).
  3. Ditto. Though, wasn't this supposed to be a new IP?

  5. ... hyperbole, right? that better be hyperbole. *shrug* Of course, but the slippery slope argument shouldn't be restricted to game publishers, now should it? Fascinating story, personally believe that natural persons should overall enjoy a higher level of rights than legal ones, certainly that someone sitting on the lawn of a body that owns acres of lawns is violating that body's rights to a much lesser degree than when someone sits on a private person's handkerchief sized front lawn. I admit that my view is probably coloured by how weapons (non-lethal and otherwise) are viewed in Finnish jurisprudence, namely that "laying-on-hands" is much more easily accepted than either OC spray, tazers (or random executions). I know a lot of cops from my past life, I respect all of them apart from one racist traffic cop, but then again, they will refrain from using oleoresin capsicum unless physically attacked.
  6. Meh, pepper spray is a defensive weapon, designed to incapacitate an aggressive attacker (and it does that pretty damn well, and relatively safely). If you start using it on people sitting on the ground, you might as well taze them or use a nightstick to knock them out. Or even better, just execute them on the spot, no need to put them in a bus. Sure, more blood, but probably less snot. Using a weapon (even a non-lethal one) on non-aggressive demonstrators sends a bad message, dragging them off would be the better alternative, even if someone does get a bruise.
  7. I so wish I'd actually written "it looks like an RTS" yesterday when I was thinking it.
  8. Well, what other people would call an RPG, not the RPG in your personal genre jungle.
  9. Now that I've recovered, I have to say that I agree with you. So either it's an RPG or they are off their rockers.
  10. I'm reading that Bioware Edmonton makes quality games? Here? Apparently the Styx froze and you can cross it by walking.
  11. While their web server is absolutely hammered, I got the download at a nice, steady 3.30MB/s.
  12. Nope, to the pure part at least. It is based as much as possible on real numbers from the publishers and NPD, along with some comparison with similar titles. But yes, any discussion of this sort will be rife with conjecture as we don't have all the facts available. You should, of course, feel free to disagree with the conclusions drawn since it's unprovable as it stands, I was just presenting the case for DXHR being below expectations sales wise. I think it's reasonably convincing or I wouldn't have done it. YMMV. You're dismissing the official statement of a publically traded company which was informing the market of a positive surprise in its performance due to it not being a "disinterested party". I consider that bit of information to be the only relevant data released - mostly since the people who released it are actually accountable for it! Your dismissal of it basically presupposes that they are using creative accounting to turn up profits and pointing at a failed DXHR saying "Yeah, that... THING, um, surprised us!" To paraphrase Mordin Solus (your) theory doesn't fit evidence.
  13. Yes, its just you. Meaning your perception of it. You are certainly entitled to make up your own mind on how to interpret my words. I'm just telling you how they were actually meant. Now for some REAL douchebaggery. If it was so blatantly obvious why did you ask the question in the first place? *smugface* Oh, you know, just wanted to give someone an opportunity to make an arrogant ass out of themselves No, actually, I anticipated the direction the Deus Ex discussion would take and tried to fix the dam I broke. Best I could think of, spur of the moment. I'd expect that is where Pidesco got the impression from. I'll still stand by the statement that it didn't sell to expectations*- more so considering how well received critically it was- no matter what Squeenix say. They are not a disinterested party and a lot of the investment made into the franchise, and the impetus from the good reviews, would be lost if they discontinued it now or labelled it an underperformer. To be fair, any game that makes money is a success in an industry where the vast majority of titles are cancelled or outright lose money, but I would have thought their expectation would be 2 million+ sold through by now. I'd put the dev team size, expectations, costings etc in roughly the Bioware class. As a comparison, ME2 sold about as much in 5 days as DXHR sold in 5 weeks, on 360 alone, and with an initial shipping size less than DXHR, while DXHR had a dev time not that much less than Dragon Age Original (2007-2011 vs 2004-2009). And it may well not even reach the sales of Baldur's Gate. Overall, there's simply no way I can see that DXHR was a cheap game to make unless the comparison is relative to something like GTA/ COD/ GoW. Comparing the 820k for DS3 vs 2.2 mill for DXHR is fine since they're both shipped figures from the publisher so it's comparing like with like, but they are shipped figures and thus of limited usefulness. Good lord it's depressing seeing how many 'games journalists' still don't know the difference and just say sold. *The main caveat now is the regional breakdown, since they apparently shipped 800k to NA and 1.3M to Europe. If they sold 75% of their shipped total it would be around 1.7M, edging towards their expectation. I'm not convinced though, not least because DS3 supposedly sold through a higher proportion than DXHR. Objection, (pure) conjecture.
  14. Or not, as the second part of your witty reply shows. First off, that wasn't a "witty" replay but a real suggestion. All the information (and other) we have so far on them is there. For example that Tim Cain is working on the animation title as a senior programmer or that Sawyer is on the original IP. Without any of these titles actually beeing announced that is a lot of information. Trying to help, so dial back. Prefacing help with suggestions that the helpee undertake something blatantly obvious tend to come across less as help and more as douchebaggery. Maybe it's just me?
  15. I'd also been blissfully unaware of multiplayer.
  16. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-11-...dition-detailed Meanwhile, I double facepalmed and thought of calling somebody to provide me with a third hand.
  17. Or not, as the second part of your witty reply shows.
  18. I never said DX:HR didn't make compirativly more money. It still cost obviously a lot more (both in development as in Marketing. Those CGI Sequences were probably not cheap.). Compared to other really "big" games the dev size seemed to be indeed small. But its still around ~100. A The dev cycle was actually not that long. Didn't they say 2 years too a while ago? It was announced May 17 2007. But yes, to get back on track, I'm glad that they've managed to establish themselves and it looks like there now is a third studio that makes games I can really like. Which brings me to another one of them, Obsidian, do we have any idea what's in the pipeline, I feel like I've missed something?
  19. AFAIK they ran a much smaller team for most of the cycle, only ramping up towards the very end. Of course, I lack comprison points to what the team sizes on multimillion-selling games are, but I'm thinking even 100 is in the lower end these days.
  20. There's a slight difference between acts committed by people in white hoods and those with stars on their uniforms I've seen what cops look like when they feel threatened. That guy is not it.
  21. For some reason the battery pack in the middle of the xpox controller makes me absolutely loathe it. Probably the "we'll sacrifice form and function to milk you extra for reloading capability" it represents.
  22. Considering they are not comparable at all in terms of costs theres nothing poor about it. Thanks to Anthony Davis we already know that DSIII was low cost compared to other full price games. Anyway, about Deus Ex. SQE specifically stated in that report that they were very happy with DXs sales and want to continue the brand. The price going down is also easily explained with DX beeing massivly overshipped in the beginning. Though (as with DSIII) it begins to stabilize. The List price itself is still $59.99. Not to diminish Obsid's achievements, but DXHR with its pretty small team was probably on the cheaper side of AAA games, even with the dev cycle.
  23. am assuming the aforementioned is just random, non-sequitur gibberish, 'cause nobody we seen has suggested that "all thoughts are innocuous." ideas can be terrible and powerful, but no legit government is afraid o' the free exchange o' ideas. there is many options for dealing with dark thoughts 'mongst the populace, but censorship of thoughts is antithetical to the liberty notions embraced in most free societies. HA! Good Fun!
  24. So did Mass Effect 2's price. Yet seems to be considered a financial success. Wonder where your misperception originates, as it's come up before here and been refuted before. Wishful thinking?
