He gushed a lot about it and enjoyed it. I tried it out too but it was too tough for me. Seemed like a clever game though.

Hated that too Feels like I'm the only person on the planet who doesn't. Gave the game a spin a few weeks ago when it was free to try and I dunno. The first few missions were just boring. Hopefully it picks up later.

Yeah, I couldn't bring myself to do that either What were your backstory choices? Educated Background, then the one that gave nothing (I figured they'll drop a surprise later in the game), and the rare accesory.

I didn't have enough, probably because I didn't mind rape the kid into giving me his shiny thing. I got through though, found an escort mission and we made a reasonably effective team with the escortee scientist. Thanks for the tips tho.

So I got StarCrawlers in the GoG sale. I made a Void Psyker and reached lvl 2. I look at the job board and after failing the colony ship mission decide to stick something easier for now. then I fail a lvl 2 mission. Then a lvl 1. Fighting groups 3 is tough and I don't have the money for teammates nor have I gotten the robot buddy yet. Doesn't help that I got abilities that build up Void Energy but no productive way to release it yet, so any tips? Should I just start over quickly?

Ah, Stardew Valley was such a treat. I kinda want to replay it but it's also a massive timesink.

League of Legends made F2P work and popularized it and they didn't add lootboxes until a year ago - and even then the boxes are mainly earned through playing the game and while buying them is an option, the devs themselves discouraged it. Buying is useful if you lack either boxes or the keys needed to open them and don't want to wait for one or the other, but if you want something specific, buying it normally is the sensible choice. Sure, not everything will be as popular as League, but that doesn't make lootboxes necessary. Didn't those things become the rage suddenly after Overwatch? I don't remember them being a thing before. GW2 had black lion chests, but those weren't the main attraction for the real money store either.
