ok i am adding blood and rise of the triad to my old skool shooter list, but i cant find shadow warrior on steam or gog... any suggestions?

call of duty franchise is clearly the michael bay of gaming. bioware is more like the child of judd apatow and paul w.s. anderson, with down syndrome (and yes, i actually LIKE bioware games)

i bought the id pack, $30 for a TON of games i haven't played since i was a kid, worth it just for the convenience to me

just cause 2 is REALLY fun for about 2-8 hours. so for a couple bucks i'd say its worth it im hoping that two worlds 2 gets a %50 off sale, i won't get it until its $25 or less, but even if that doesnt happen this summer sale, come winter i'm sure it will get there (or even less)

i've been thinking about taking a tour through the big shooters of yesteryear this summer this was the order i was thinking of doing them in: Wolfenstien 3-D Doom Doom 2 Duke Nukem 3-D Dark Forces Quake Quake 2 Heretic Hexen Dark Forces 2 So, should I change this order around at all? am i missing any obvious games that should be in there? I'd love to play the original system shock, but am still waiting for that to release on gog or steam also, if I were to throw crusader: no remorse in there, where should i put it?

i somehow managed to make a wishlist with 10 games on it. steam...you keep taking my money, and i keep being happy with you. i confused.

has anyone here tried the mod which lets you explore the fallout 3 gameworld from your new vegas game? (supposedly uses all the new vegas mechanics etc, but lets you travel to DC?) is it good, does it work?

i think people on this board like talking mechanics, i remember a lot of healthy discussions when new vegas was being made about the types of mechanics improvements we would see over fallout 3. the best part about it was that sawyer not only read all them, but engaged in the conversation, and we could see the elements that were discussed in the actual game (particularly bits about gun mechanics in games, and the level of verisimilitude that open world games should have).

yeah but at least in MGS (the original and part 2) you had a super sciency "sneak suit" that not only made you invisible at long ranges, but also enabled you to see on your radar, how far away you had to be from the field of view of an enemy to stay invisible. it sounds silly, but a lot less silly than just saying, he's so sneaky, as long as he is in a shadow he is totally invisible!

street fighter, red dead redemption. still have several games sitting unopened. will probably never play them.

true, they usually release expansion packs instead of free content. if i recall, WoW charges for both. monthly fees for the little stuff, and larger sums for the expansions?

huh, not much. then again, its free. maybe someday they will release a $50 pack that buys you unlimited time, you know, like if you were to buy a video game.

so WoW is now free to play apparently. at least until you hit level 20. how long does that take? 20 hours?

i loved the cover system in rainbow six: vegas. i played it before gears of war, and then found the system in gears of war to be atrocious by comparison. that said, the cover system in uncharted turns every gunfight into the most boring gunfight ever. i HATE shootouts in that game. so yeah, i dont think cover system= all games play the same, but i do think that some games would benefit from some other design choices. red dead redemption was a good balance imo, most fights you do not need cover, you can rock out with the dead-eye shooting or quick snap lockon shots. but there are some parts of the game where cover becomes vital or at least very helpful.

those damn kids. i personally enjoyed citizen kane when i was 15, but on seeing it again when i was 27, i LOVED it. so yeah, maturity and education do alter one's tastes. that said, its ok with me if kids dont like half life, so long as they go back and replay it when they are older so they can see why it was important.

yeah i havent seen any of those, probably why they aren't on my list they are all in my netflix queue, i'll probably get around to them at some point in the next year. i've also been wanting to watch the stewart-mann collaborations, but haven't gotten to any of them yet either. and, while not a western per se, Bring Me The Head Of Alfredo Garcia is an awesome movie (slow start, but stick with it) with many western themes, just a more modern setting. movie lists are fun, i should write up my favorite zombie and samurai movies sometime.

Call me when you have seen High Noon. i've seen high noon several times, its a great movie. its not THE best western though, its probably somewhere around number 9 or 10 imo. you really liked it better than once upon a time in the west? edit: mostly off the top of my head, these are probably my current favorite westerns (i havent seen rio grande, or any version of true grit, as well as a several other classics) once upon a time in the west the good the bad and the ugly unforgiven ox bow incident the wild bunch the searchers stagecoach red river high noon the magnificent seven hombre butch cassidy and the sundance kid

just coming in here to say ?!? re people's thoughts on westerns... if you have not seen: 1. once upon a time in the west AND 2. the good the bad and the ugly then you clearly have not seen enough western films to have formed an opinion of them. its like saying you don't like samurai movies but you've never seen seven samurai or yojimbo... other insanely good westerns: unforgiven the wild bunch also westerns being an american thing? the two best westerns of all time were italian productions. not american.

if microsoft really can beat steam prices and features, then sign me up! (i'll believe it when i see it) as for microsoft leveraging their os to beat the competition, well, i've never seen someone drop a vastly superior product just because their os doesn't like it. people will workaround their os. if we're talking about the guy who wants to "click buton and game!1!", he or she is probably gaming on facebook, where they spend all their time anyway, so unless microsoft wants to tackle that, i just don't see them going anywhere with GFWL. it'll end up like the zune at best.

i dont really follow you... if windows had GFWL in it, a person would no longer be able to use steam? or that the prices for GFWL would be so much better than steam people would choose to completely buy all their digital games on GFWL from then on? edit: i hope you aren't saying that by including GFWL in windows people would just use it cause its there.... that doesnt make sense, do people use internet explorer because its there? or do they use firefox cause its better? (to answer: i dont know a single person who uses internet explorer who also plays pc games, the fact that it is included with windows just means they can download firefox right away)

either way, there aren't any guns in morrowind so the original comment was pretty irrelevant.
