  1. i loved bioshock when it came out, but bioshock infinite so far feels a bit.... dated i'll keep at it, but im kinda disappointed after the first couple hours - very linear start, reminds me more of call of duty than system shock 2
  2. so one bad writer out of a dozen means the whole project is doomed? internet critics so critical
  3. i cant wait for someone to release a kickstarter campaign for a pyramid investment company...
  4. why on earth would ANYONE donate to this? i so confused....
  5. i thought they were just gonna let this one die quietly somewhere
  6. length is only one element of a game that said, it's often important, because some games, even if awesome, are not worth $60, because they are too short (though there are examples of very short games that imo were worth $60 anyway -metal gear solid for example, though that game had a ton of replay value so i got far more than a single 6 hour playthrough out of it) can you imagine the outrage of people paying full price for a movie ticket to see say, The Avengers 2 and the movie only being 16 minutes long? people would riot. it's an extreme example, but it merely is to demonstrate the point that length of entertainment is not a trivial attribute
  7. i think its a trend for japanese companies in the past few years to over estimate sales on games. they need to lower expectations and budget accordingly. square needs to make more final fantasy games that attempt to emulate 6-9 instead of pushing for absurdly expensive graphics and full voice acting
  8. im also probably going to wait until the summer sale for bioshock infinite, it looks good, but it also looks like it's gonna be a pretty short experience, and $60 seems a bit too steep for a one and done shooter, even a good one. as soon as it hits $40 i'll pick it up.
  9. ac 1 and 2 and the first expansion to 2 were great ac3 has a great setting but is filled with terrible missions and so many horrendous design decisions its actually kind of awe inspiring
  10. brutal legend was good/great, but somewhat odd to play, and i can see why the masses didn't flock to it.
  11. frozen synapse was pretty awesome, but i got tired of it after just a couple days, it only cost a few bucks though so definitely worth it. currently playing tomb raider.... its really good. feels like uncharted with a splash of arkham asylum. searching the levels for all the items is surprisingly fun. i wish the stealth system was way more developed though, i like playing stealthy characters and too often im forced into a firefight because the game doesnt want me to sneak anymore. mild spoiler one thing i think interesting, a lot of people say lara feels like a victim/prey early on in the game... i dont agree. the very first enemy she encounters she knees in the balls, bites his ear off, then shoots him in the face. then she says it was surprisingly easy to do. thats not what i would consider a victim becoming a killer, instead i would describe it as a killer realizing she what her talents are.
  12. heavy rain was awesome alan wake was terrible they are also completely different genres from eachother
  13. i liked heavy rain, it was thrilling.
  14. heavy rain wasn't really a "game", it was interactive fiction, this looks the same
  15. that old arcade game is soooooo awesome i used to spend all my money on that game at my local arcade
  16. the original torment had MCA, which counts as like, 10 more writers, so torment actually had 18 writers and none of them slept ever and all they did was work 120 hours a week for peanuts and brandy
  17. the recent xcom was turnbased and profitable, hopefully some publishers are coming around to the idea that more than just CoD fans buy games
  18. if i remember correctly, in fallout 2 they assigned writers to different regions, which is partly why some regions ended up a bit incongruous
  19. im worried about having too many chefs in the kitchen
  20. isn't there a novelist named rothfuss?
  21. got further into V:TM Bloodlines, it's pretty enjoyable, but i found myself thrown into a bossfight from which there seemed to be no option other than combat - annoying, but i wasn't expecting perfection so im not too bothered about it
  22. looks neat, but i dont usually kickstart to unproven devs, this project though, its pretty tempting.
