hell yes for repair kits. scavenging other weapons for parts is a good idea, but should definitely NOT be the only way to repair your gear

well, IF those are screenshots then the game might actually draw some major attention at e3... i dont think they are. still, they must have been working on this for a while to be showing it at e3, unless they're just going to show some concept art and maybe a teaser trailer -
steam runs like butter for me. smooth and delicious. i HATED it when it first came out, but its pretty painless now. I only use offline mode though, i don't like the feeling of being "connected"

this is just cornball, but i DO hope that they make another mortal kombat movie. i just enjoy the "characters" because i'm still an overgrown 11 year old... an ultraviolent action/horror movie would be just awesome imo. don't get the director of spawn, or uwe boll, or any anderson but p.t.

"Posing for"? Like, as a model? It's time to Get Real. In 1993-ish, my father did sculpture restoration work for the city of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. He was assisted in this endeavor by TSR staff artist Jeff "Pretty Much Every Major AD&D Pre-3E Book Cover" Easley. I wanted to be a fantasy illustrator, so I was really excited to meet him, Brom, Clyde Caldwell, Robh Ruppel, and some of the other TSR illustrators. Robh Ruppel needed a model for a Solamnic squire on the cover of a module he was illustrating, so he called up my dad and asked if I could do it. The module was Knight's Sword, and was written by... future Black Isle co-worker Colin McComb! ... though I didn't realize that the guy who wrote the module I was on the cover of worked at Black Isle for the first year I was in Black Isle. True stories. http://home.flash.net/~brenfrow/dl/dl-dlq1.htm (I'm the dragon.) so much awesome in this post. D&D4life (except 4e...)

i have a feeling survival will be super useful when playing hardcore mode, but won't have a purpose in regular mode. then again, thats based on the assumption that stimpacks are even half as abundant as they were in fallout 3...

if the goal is just to be "diablo 3, but on the xbox!" it might still be a hit if its actually fun to play. -
this is why i trust sawyer to improve the combat/mechanics in the game by 10x, he actually is paying attention to it instead of just saying "lets make moar kool gunzz!!!" I really like the idea of tiered weapons in each category, but i like even better the idea of weapons in each tier being balanced against eachother for different uses like "this is my crowd control gun, this is for big meatshields, this is for armored guys, etc etc" those kinds of balances can be found in lots of games, but definitely was missing for the most part from fallout 3 (ie some weapons were just totally pointless in that game) one request mr sawyer: make a direct hit from a rocket kill a raider in one shot. nothing ruins disbelief like watching two blips from his health bar go away after being rocketed in the chest... maybe a super boss raider could handle it... but not rottenjoeraider whose job in the gang is to collect dog food for the other members to eat

the jump from the super nes to the n64 was probably the biggest jump in console technology/wow moments that will have been seen for a long long time. i don't think we'll see a zelda leap like link to the past to ocarina of time until we have virtual reality knocking on our door...

IF this has two player offline coop, then it's a day 1 buy for me most likely. my fiance LOVES to play co-op baldurs gate dark alliance and borderlands, she'll be all over a decent diablo clone. (though i do i plan on surprising her with a copy of diablo 3 on release, but I dont look forward to the conversation where i explain we will be sitting with our backs to each other in our den because we each need our own computer ...) if this doesnt have offline co-op then it's going to have to be more than just another dungeon siege game, cause those are boring by yourself and i don't usually enjoy playing online co-op (except guild wars for some reason) -
whoa whoa whoa.... slow down a minute.... no skills? i can only assume they are going to do it like bioshock, where you still have some customization over your build despite not having "skills" like typical rpg types.... still... thats a major check in the negative column for me

very nice

http://www.vintagegameclub.org/ the vintage game club is playing through fallout 1 starting today, with discussion of the intro to begin tomorrow in case anyone here has been itching to replay the original and they want to discuss it as they do

i agree about sacred cows etc and all that, but seriously, some things are on pedestals because THEY DESERVE IT. I watched casablanca for the first time a couple years ago. guess what? It's ****ing amazing. Not at all overrated imo despite having been filmed in a soundstage and not on location and not having any whizbang effects. Im not saying deus ex is as good as casablanca, but the idea of a classic being a classic because it's really just THAT GOOD is a sound one imo. Aliens is still the best sci-fi action movie imo the godfather? still the best mafia movie. classics aren't classic because someone 50 years ago said "this shall be a classic forever!", they are classics because they deserve it because they are awesome. still. Of course, to someone without the ability to recognize quality, casablanca might be boring, the godfather might not have enough explosions, and deus ex might have "average" graphics. deus ex IS a classic, as is fallout (recent games might become classics too, in fact we had a whole thread about this very topic about a year ago, i should know, i created it)

oooh burn on oblivion. easiest burns to earn round these parts! how can so many fugly elves live in such a pretty world....

new vegas deus ex 3 starcraft 2 diablo 3 looks like good times
-
I am pretty skeptical about a new deus ex game.... but I have to say I'm definitely being won over.... every time the director speaks about the project he says how the game is being based around deus ex 1, with large open levels and lots of paths etc, even the inventory system is based on the first game apparently (which i love since it was a great balance in the game keeping you from being too powerful by forcing you to really think about what you wanted to carry) also i love that there will be no multiplayer, it shows that they at least are going into this project with the right mindset. and yes even the cg trailer was good. it was actually REALLY good imo, it's probably the first cg trailer to make me excited about a game since the old FF7 cg trailers they showed on tv back when i was in high school. so now they've succeeded in getting my hopes high enough that i can be crushed if the game is a big dookie.... oh well, here's hoping!

Deus Ex and system shock 2 ARE the games by which I will judge any shooter/rpg hybrids until either of them are surpassed. (i think deus ex surpassed system shock 2 in every way but shodan) mass effect 2 was a pretty awesome shooter/rpg hybrid, but still not as good as deus ex imo the deus ex worship started ten years ago, not when alpha protocol was announced
-
deus ex is one of THE greatest games of all time. it's anything but average. I have not heard anyone say anything remotely like "alpha protocol is as good as deus ex." which is too bad, because I was hoping for a game like that again. http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/...sex?q=deus%20ex compared to http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/pc/alphaprotocol NOTE: DO NOT READ THE NUMBERS NEXT TO THE REVIEWS, just read what people say about the game in those little tag descriptions... it illustrates the difference pretty clearly between how the games are being reviewed ie: "you could do a lot worse" vs "Near-perfect in every conceivable way"
-
i'll buy two copies of new vegas on release if its good rather than spend full price on a not-good game i plan on getting alpha protocol when they patch out the drm, which presumably will also be around the time it costs 20$ AND will have some bug fixes in place

FF XIII - so i finally started digging into this after thoroughly playing rdr. So far this is the worst FF game I've played. I like it even less than FFX, which is saying a lot because I REALLY didn't care for 10. Good points so far: the game moves quickly. I like Lightning, too bad she's not in a better game. Bad points so far: The game at 15 hours in, has gone absolutely nowhere. Example time: At 15 hours in FF7 here are only SOME of the things i've done: blown up one of the seven reactors that run midgar, protected a flower girl from kidnappers by dropping barrels on them, stormed the headquarters of Shinra, found the supposed main villain of the game dead with a sword in his back, fought his son, raced a motorcycle through the city while protecting my friends, oh yeah - and I've snuck into a pimps den of dirty deeds while dressed as a woman... at 15 hours in FF13 here are what I can remember doing (remembering a game i am currently playing mind you): I ran down some paths after watching some easily forgettable cutscenes. i fought some monsters. i turned a switch that made it rainy outside. i ran down some more paths.... thats about all i can remember. WHAT THE **** seriously its not even a game, more of a path running simulator. NOTHING HAPPENS! I'm going to keep playing it in case it gets better but so far its blowing my mind with its failure to be memorable or great. Side note: I keep hearing people complain about Jrpgs and how they haven't changed in years etc etc. well i don't know what hash they are smoking but seriously, play FF7 (or 6, 8 or 9) for 15 hours, then play FF13 for 15 hours and tell me if its changed. I actually believe that FF13 is not a jrpg at all, it has none of the things that made the final fantasy series great for so many years, and it frankly has turned me off from being excited about the next one, unless it is a genuine return to the style of game that 6-9 were. side note 2: FFX was when **** started falling apart. who needs a world map that you can explore when we can just have a PATH YOU CAN FOLLOW?!?! GEE WIZ WON'T THAT BE FUN TO JUST RUN DOWN A NARROW HALLWAY FOR 50 HOURS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! no. its not fun. **** you squaresoft for forgetting how to make games fun.

if the level design is half as good as deus ex 1 then I'll consider it a semi-victory even if the rest of the game is butt.
-
weird, my experience was totally different. I couldnt put the controller down once I got started... I put in about 35 hours in 4 days and finished all the missions and challenges before I got bored. Even now I look forward to replaying it in a year or two. Also, I found the game plenty challenging at the beginning, I probably died about 20 times before finishing the game, which is a LOT more than I die in most games. i LOVE westerns though, so maybe that really does make the difference? also whats strange: I hate gta, i get bored almost immediately and the only one I played for more than a few hours was vice city. I guess I'm strange.

my friends and I tried 4th edition for 1 full year before switching back to 3rd edition. 4e sucks.
