  1. Woohoo ! The kickstarter campaign seems like yesterday but in reality it's more like yesteryear. Somehow feels like congratulations are in order! Not nearly posting as much as I did in the early stages bit still just as eagerly awaiting this master piece's completion Thanks again team Obsidz!
  2. Instead of worrying about what the devs intended, have a little faith? You're starting to sound a little paranoid. If they decided to remove durability it's because they decided to do so internally, you should be celebrating I think? haha. Nothing is set in stone yet, if they change their minds about something then it's because they have a good reason to. My personal opinion: I like the removal of durability, it's a nuisance and doesn't add anything to the game other than a slight feel of "realism". Basically it was something that simply could not be defended. Realism is -ok- if the setting allows it, as example: Stalker has a great setting for "realism" and I usually play Stalker on it's hardest setting. A fantasy world has this less so, realism isn't really something you should be looking for specifically imho. Wealth is not something that has to be a problem, unless it's not intended (because plot dictates you should be poor that moment or w/e). And when wealth is not intended... money can always be removed forcefully "I'm sorry sire, the city found discrepancies in old tax reports for the keep." "I'm afraid we're now bankrupt, oh it appears the guard is here to send you off to prison."
  3. Always ask yourself the following question: Is this fun? If the answer is clearly YES, go for it! Note: Sometimes doing a chore is ok, if the result is worth it! I liked the inclusion of "crafting" inside storylines myself, like (part of) Gothic for example: You had to pick up a job and do chores because you needed favors and money, simple enough system for me! I also liked the fact that I actually saw the guy working the steel which made it feel more "real". This effect will probably be less in PE due to the distance of the camera if you did decide to implement something like that. For some this probably appeared as a chore and nuisance, but if ALL you want is action... why play an RPG? I'm not sure if I've EVER seen a game where I thought crafting was executed well, but perhaps you can see this as a challenge You should definately do something fun with food if you include it! Like the game forcing you to cook for a lord or something and your cooking skill will be related to the outcome (jail and hanging not excluded as possible options ). Go nuts!
  4. Oooh ****, had to sit up straight for this one No doubt this will be yet another Obsidz gem!
  5. This is looking very good indeed, can't wait
  6. Won't be pledging as I have mixed feelings about this one even after the Wasteland2 updates. On one side I dislike the Torment name on a spiritual sequal, on the other hand, it wouldn't have gotten this much cash without it. My faith in InXile is also low compared to (for example ) Obsidian! I would've liked it if they kept Torment as a project name, with final game naming to be decided at a later time. No use crying over spilt milk however, Brian's "cash grab" is working and in the end: The more ©RPGs, the better! I do hope Obsidian and InXile remain on good terms with each other. It's all fun and games until they start to steal each others employees. Hopefully they have a gentlemen's agreement in place.
  7. Let's hope this doesn't cost OEI a lot of money. That's what it's all about in the end. Lawyers cost money, defending or otherwise.
  8. Awesome, keep it up! Had to go to bed after a couple of hours of watching (was already like 02:00).
  9. Also at $4.0m Chris Avellone will be forced to play Arcanum. Someone make this possible!
  10. Then you are probably in luck. The developers wont be deaf to all these complaints. Hopefully they'll use the matrix solution. Where "giving people the illusion of choice" transfers to "giving people the illusion of xp". Giving trivial mobs trivial xp and giving bosses (which would've had their own objective) not objective xp but rather "xp" (for either of these: kill/intimidate/enslave/etc). Results being exactly the same, but giving the illusion of a more direct "reward".
  11. You would have found yours with Josh and Tim. Unfortunately there are people that find this is NOT enough. They don't want xp ONLY for the objective but rather for each and every single thing done until reaching said objective (and probably wouldn't mind dropping said objective xp entirely). It's not a bad system, but one that's harder to realise and requires more work. Work I think they should be doing elsewhere.
  12. How ironic that you use playstyles as an argument against, when objective based xp allows for the most flexibility in that regard. Leave "dealing with the bandits" as objective. Deal with them how you please (kill/intimidate/enslave/charm/etc). Receive xp.
  13. The thing I've seen repeated the most does indeed appear to be that people wanting kill exp, don't really care about anything else. They dont feel handcrafted loot and even story as something even resembling a reward, instead they want to see cold hard numbers. I can't even begin to relate. It's like trying to speak to a fish.
  14. How at odds our opinions are. For me combat is a nice side dish, not the main course. IWD and IWD2, out of all the infinity engine games were (for me) the weakest. I could never really get "into" them, even though I've REALLY tried hard. It comes down to story for me and the narrative through which it is displayed. That doesn't mean I don't like slaying my fair share of xvarts however. But the way BG and PST grip you by the heart and drag it into the world is something the dungeon crawlers ala IWD have simply never gotten even close to. -edit need to shrink that enormous post down a bit.
  15. Congratulations on making it all the way! Don't really want to post this here but hopefully it will gain some more attention: Could you update the paypal page to include the playing cards? Looking forward to what comes out of the stretchgoal meeting
  16. Close to 70000 rats? And you want to name each and every one? Well I guess it beats combat xp.
  17. Welcome Risax! Yes, paypal donations are counted towards the stretch goals. They have however commented that they will only update the kickstarter page when kickstarter itself has actually passed the goal. If you were wondering about that, now you know!
  18. Still waiting for the Playing Card addon on the paypal page!! The KS is nearly ending and I need dem cards, halp!
  19. Do you currently look at mobs in an IE game going, oh wait those only give 2xp instead of 50, let's just skip those... To me it actually looks like another reason to remove kill xp all together. But seeing all these reactions I'd personally do the following: Take the highest level (or 2 levels) and divide all the experience required for those 2 levels over all mobs in the game (rated by difficulty perhaps) and leave it at that. And make those XP "extra" (leaving the non violent solutions at LEAST as viable for getting max level on all characters). So in the end you've gone out of your way to slaughter all the mobs for gaining max level approximately 30 minutes earlier than your nonviolent counterparts. Hurah! *puke*
  20. The update #24 thread is there for update #24. the XP discussion inside of it is totally offtopic and looking more akin to a flame war. It's fine doing it in it's own thread (aka here). But I would have stopped it in #24 yeah, I was looking forward to seeing people's reaction on the update #24 stuff and all I can see is children bickering over numbers and when they get to see them. And.. oh wait I only just now noticed your name... DANG IT!
  21. Have to say the mods have been EXTREMELY lenient on this matter, I personally would've at least stopped the discussion inside the update #24 thread.
  22. Thanks for replying, I was already typing the last message before you posted this. Apparently goal based experience doesn't give you the feeling of character advancement. I can basically sum this up as the following. Go to Obsidian's main page: http://www.obsidian.net/ Click on "VIEW RESULTS" on the right. Notice people wanting BG/PST? Why do you think that is? Maybe because they are NOT "hardcore" dungeon crawlers? And ARE more like an interactive novel? Now I'm awaiting you comparing P:E with DA2 and really all I can do is laugh. It's a shame you can't look past this obviously trivial xp matter and see the game ahead.
  23. Thank you for totally ignoring my obvious question. If I happen to receive my Nobel prize, I'll donate it to a foundation that helps the blind.
  24. Lucky for you that poll isn't biased at all and has a "I don't care" option. Oh wait.. And options 2 and 3 actually appear to be more goal based than the other 2 yes versions. Finally, the thing I STILL haven't seen answered by the against crew (if it was, SORRY!) Most of you appear to be advocating exploring for nothing isn't fun. I agree! But I think you are forgetting a couple of something... LOOT ?! STORY !? EASTER EGGS?! EVERYTHING OTHER THAN XP! Please explain, I am awaiting your answers If you can't explain yourself, I'm afraid you might be experiencing a number fetish.
