  1. Interesting BBC is showing combat footage of the drone strike. Guess they're in the marketing business.
  2. Interesting claim by Kofman, he's been more cool blooded than most in talking on the war, that Bakhmut was a mixed bag for Ukraine. High kill ratio in their favour, but they had high quality units mauled fighting convicts and low quality Russian units.
  3. Pretty much. Although people still seem to think 30 F-16s or something will win the war. Power of marketing and games I guess. Wonder how long it'll take for a "stab in the back" myth to arise if Ukraine doesn't achieve total victory.
  4. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/08/02/us/politics/ukraine-troops-counteroffensive-training.html "Biden administration officials had hoped the nine Western-trained brigades, some 36,000 troops, would show that the American way of warfare was superior to the Russian approach. While the Russians have a rigidly centralized command structure, the Americans taught the Ukrainians to empower senior enlisted soldiers to make quick decisions on the battlefield and to deploy combined arms tactics — synchronized attacks by infantry, armor and artillery forces. But the Western-trained brigades received only four to six weeks of combined arms training, and units made several mistakes at the start of the counteroffensive in early June that set them back, according to U.S. officials and analysts who recently visited the front lines and spoke to Ukrainian troops and commanders."
  5. Double talk seems par for course with nations anyway. We kill people by drones, they commit terrorist acts, etc.
  6. Doubt many are panicked, even if Poland is like the short guy telling everyone to hold him back. A more mundane possibility https://twitter.com/Hajun_BY/status/1686496814348824576
  7. Two Belarusian helicopters entered Polish airspace then left, guess I was wrong, those Wagner guys may actually pose a danger.
  8. Based on last time, probably something mundane like that, rather than something like nuking Kiev - https://www.rferl.org/a/kremlin-drone-attack-eu-warning-borrell-ukraine/32395001.html
  9. We'll see, probably will be an interesting sell to Ukrainian people. Kasparov will have a stroke too, thinking of that, heh.
  10. Ukraine's been pretty vocal that they take the war as starting in 2014. Another drone strike in Moscow, same building too.
  11. Stupid coup plotters, should have arranged for the French to pull another Aristide
  12. So these 100 Wagner guys have people worried for some reason.
  13. I think both would work to help feed Africans, no?
  14. The not free grain from Russia can though
  15. Tropico has put the part from 5:51 in the back of my mind for years
  16. https://www.reuters.com/world/putin-tells-african-leaders-moscow-is-studying-their-ukraine-proposal-2023-07-28/ Good for them to try, but too early still.
  17. Came in and found that a DB job has been failing every day for 6 months, and no one has noticed. Head dev asked pertitent question of "What does this job actually do then ?" I am beginning to think that 90% of operations in my company don't actually DO anything
  18. God damn forum. Yep, I mean if France or whoever decided to go on a training exercise that would be the reasoning given. Not sure it'll come to that, though, is a far off conflict
  19. They can always invade, as per the rules based international order.
  20. https://www.nytimes.com/live/2023/07/26/world/russia-ukraine-news/this-is-the-big-test-us-officials-describe-a-new-ukrainian-effort-to-sever-russias-hold-on-the-south?smid=url-share It has begun. For real this time
  21. Sinead O'Connor
  22. Solution in search of a problem.
  23. Doens't really seem like he wrote that. Sure is being marketed to me as yet another reason this war is a global struggle and no nation can shrug their shoulders at it, heh. Price impacts would matter, though.
