They are free labour around the house, there is that. Pretty sure you have to pay in time investment to tell them to do something the required 100 times before they actually do it. Hmm...that is true. Helps if you condition them before hand. Use enough discipline and you can mould them into productive workers and people. Or you can be like my grandmother and just hit them with extension cords

Sure, me too, but "rational" is in the eye of the beholder. If someone snatched up my kid and I somehow got to them before the police, Bad Things would happen. Or he has just experienced a higher or more violent level of crime. Eventually you start to just see killers and rapists as worthless things. But you can get both worlds. Screw the killers to the wall with no mercy but look at fixing things that tend to make them prosper.
