Deus Ex 3
Was anyone arguing about their own superiority, though ? Although it would be amusing to me to see a developer say that he's making his games easier for the impatient Another interview with Dugas, audio this time, sheds a bit more info. http://www.platformnation.com/2010/11/10/d...francois-dugas/

In an ideal world, yep.

Catholic marchers turn on Glastonbury pagans
This nation did produce 40k, hmm. Second thought on this was "Burn the witch, not salt them".

Never played the game in question, but given a map the player can see himself and his orientation (or a compass display) you can describe whereabouts they can find the objective no ? And you're claiming he's butthurt and acting bitter ? Heh, nice. If you gave up because you found DX too hard (how one could?...I've no farking clue), while I'm not sure one could say you're stupid, but that's pretty sad in any case to just toss your toys out.

Weird to say that about a quest, you can log the text, write it decently well and ta-da, the player has enough to figure out what to do, the world is static usually. An arrow seems like laziness on both sides When I hear making action more engaging, I think of Vegas and Dragon Rising, hah.

Aside, one game that had a neat way of handling cover in FP was Viet Cong. You'd go behind an object or whatever, but would be covered to other players, using your iron sights would raise you up over or to the side of the cover so you could shoot. Was neat, but wasn't as much of a cheat as the system done by ME2, etc. Or at least I remember it like that.

Allowing you to conveniently see exactly where the guys you're out of LOS from are. Woo, no coffee leads to typos.

Deus Ex 3
No, but giving up on a game immediately because it's 'too hard' for you is pretty stupid behaviour when all it needs is time and persistence, after all. Dugas' little spiel there touched on people quitting Deus Ex based on Liberty Island, although I highly doubt people can be that feeble. "Your making games that are less complex than they once were simply so they can be understood by people who drool on themslves when they talk" You're reading that quote the wrong way. Saying they dumb it down so any idiot can play it, isn't saying people that like the games are stupid. The bar is very low, that's all, heh. I'd like to see an example of inaccessible game - that is, one a player simply cannot play, other than physical disability. So pushing that bar lower isn't needed and in the long end it's not beneficial to players (easier things are, you sort of suffer from a form of atrophy). What is wrong with elitism, anyway ? You end up thinking one group is scum, they think you're a jerkbag. Pretty much a normal situation, really.

Deus Ex 3
That's not a feeling, it's simply an acceptance of reality.
-
Deus Ex 3
Or people just think they see it. Mostly entitlement, though, especially here re: any complaint or displeasure with a design choice. Although I guess I am elitist in thinking those that put the time and effort in are indeed better than those that don't

What you did today
It amazes me how the difficulty of learning a programming language can vary depending on how well written a book one has. Well using C++ Primer by Prata. Useful, if I weren't so freaking lazy.

Deus Ex 3
Ah, elitism, second only to entitlement in buzzword usage on forums, heh. Explain the elitism being expressed here, please? I've faith enough in gamers that most can figure stuff out, those that can't or don't want to be patient enough, well that's their failing. Companies don't, it seems. However, that said, I don't think Deus Ex HR looks to be dumbed down, heh. But this is the joker behind Rainbow Six : Vegas, so

Question about Obsidian
Hm. I dunno about just doing sequels. It worked for Infinity Ward. It's a bit disappointing to see them do this with the talent, but you've got to start somewhere and any revenue is good. Their only original game so far was pretty good, so things are on the up!

Witcher 2 'leaked' video
It's so easy to get hooked on one though. My feeling is they'll do ok on it moneywise, they've got attention with the first one so that'll help.

FO: NV (General Discussion)
Hm, can I get a copy if I mail Obsidian a cheque ?

What you did today
Fixed a huge problem for a client by changing an 'OR' to an 'AND'. Took 3 days to determine what was going on. Bug hunting is sort of fun, the moment when you're just about to find the problem is the most exciting, better than the joy at fixing the problem, or the unravelling of the workings of the code - when everything falls into place and you slowly zero in on the problem..ah nothing like it. Also, fell behind on C++ learning so wasting my lunch break on that. =)

Civilization V
Ah hah, proof it was dumbed down!
-
Civilization V
How was anyone nitpicking, heh. Those changes mentioned were pretty significant ones, after all. Then again a nitpick is subjective, heh.
-
Civilization V
OUPT isn't that bad, it's a bit of an extreme change from the stacks of doom, would have been better to have limited stacks managed by some mechanic. Religion should have been tweaked rather than just removed, it made unofficial teams in Civ 4. But otherwise I agree with you about those changes being toward ill for the game. The transports one I laugh at, people welcoming at it was "annoying' to build transports to move units.
-
Civilization V
Eh I wouldn't say it's dumbed down. At least not significantly.
