That was pretty random.

RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS THREAD!
I think his point was more to the lines that in some places games are overpriced ridiculously as to eliminate purchasing them as an option entirely. Therefore pirating it via torrent or some Chinese store becomes more appealing than it would. And for them, definitely not a lost sale. Most likely the reality of the situation, but I suppose we must get righteously angry over it still (not our money in any event so ) Hm, wonder how come no one's mentioned that 'entitlement' buzzword yet.

Surprising. It would be sort of ok if they didn't associate OpFlash with it at all. Although to be honest, it fails independently with the low unit limit, foolish AI especially for vehicles (and the poor vehicle physics) and even little things like magic artillery/air support or not toggling your fire selectors. Although the mission editor was relatively straightforward to use, that was about the only plus. I guess you could compare it to Ghost Recon, except for the headshots you take and don't die. Seems like you didn't give ArmA 2 a fair shake though. This game though, well the byline for that article is telling enough

BioWare's New Game
Sounds like it'd be fun to watch, rather than play.

I think that was his point, although that resolution is junk either way. If you're a gay guy they want dead in Saudi, you're dead.

Korea
I'm not sure how one could solve the 'situation' with NK (this case it seems to be brinksmanship as usual), really, other than replacing their leadership or something drastic.

That and it'll be a bother to China, all that radiation.

Well I'm pretty sure they'd download their OS, if games are overpriced where they are, you can bet Windows is to boot. Hardware, electricity and broadband might be reasonably priced locally.

Going to be funny to see what the false positive rate is for those warnings.

Heh, right, very sad stuff. Or they just paid $1 to pay the least amount for the product, not as they're sinister folk out to make needy kids suffer or something. Customer's aim is to pay the least right ?

What are you playing now
Civ V again for a bit more, but eh, might go back to Civ IV.

RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS THREAD!
It's pretty much impossible to tell what someone is going to buy or not if they're still using it as if it was purchased. Self reports are among the most ureliable reporting methods ever. What a person says and what they do are regularly at odds. Like smokers who think they could quit anytime they want to. You take away their FPS games for a week and they're going to eventually give in and buy one. Unless they can get it without paying for it. Well then, assumption must be correct then. As for Steamworks, I don't think that it's impossible to pirate. Civ V was released by skidrow or something and it uses Steamworks. You can always prevent it from calling home, just takes more work for the groups. Copy protection like BIS did for Arma 2 was fun, basically it breaks the player experience and was an effort to circumvent if I recall. But I suppose the real idea is, it's easier for the consumer and if you delay the scene release for a while you could grab a bunch of people that you'd have otherwise 'lost'.

Until console piracy gets 'out of hand', which I'm not guessing is that far off. Then they'll find something new. Why exactly would you quit if you found out people were pirating your game ? I assume you'd get into this field due to a love of programming or game creation (certainly not for the work environments).

RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS THREAD!
Well as long as you get paid for the month, I'm sure that sting will go away. I suspect that people outside of NA/EU might be fall into that set you've mentioned though. If you're going to call it a loss, well then you're claiming every 'stolen' (heh) copy was money you would have gotten. Not guaranteed to be the case, and they can't verify that. Not really a 50% 'theft' rate though, Blizzard shipped 3 million copies, so to speak, rather than 6. Hm, kind of hard to think of software applications that way Anyway, Piracy Bad.

Wardell's stance on it was akin to what I was getting at. If they weren't going to buy it, what did you lose ? I suppose it is a problem for the PC industry just for the temptation though and their solutions are usually all useless (yay for open-ness, though). Funny to talk about piracy today, had a nice walk through Chinatown today,

No, but it's nothing to upset them as they're not a factor. I wonder if anyone's totalled up the piracy numbers for non-torrent sources though, for both console and PC.

RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS THREAD!
Well in that case, you've actually stolen property. The tangible kind. Why developers still make games for the PC, I guess the revenue they get still nets them a profit so they're happy with it, I guess.

Wonder if the pirates would have bought it to begin with.

Phew, for a moment there I thought it was a problem. Good thing it's not as big a problem as someone elses.
