  1. @Nepenthe: I was just engaging in some light hearted trolling, but I agree with what you say, except that DA doesn't hold any position of significance in my top xy lists. Planescape has always tied with BG2 in my no1 spot. Since their goals are completely different, and both achieve them extraordinarily well comparisons don't do either justice. BGII was from a technical and "craftsmanship" standpoint a better game, but that's really of little importance. Btw I don't idolize BGII specifically (even though its obviously the best of the lot) - rather the series as a whole, because of the unique way it tells a single, huge, story/adventure. There really is nothing like it - most games and their sequels are a strained attempt to deliver more of the same ad infinitum. To this day, its the only series of games that knew where they were going from the start, and how to get there. And when to call it quits. That's why I don't want a new Baldur's Gate game, but something with its scope and clear sense of "wholeness". The other games you mentioned are all excellent, no doubt, and really too different to compare.
  2. Why the discussion when we know BG2 > all, including DA2.
  3. I got killed last night because of that. "Ooo, more red bars, let's go kill the-DEATHCLAWS! AUGH!" I pick fights with people just so ED-E will start his little musical cues. Btw its the music from Sergio Leone's movies, right?
  4. My second playthrough (gave up on my first char upon coming to the Strip) feels much better. The more I play this game the more I'm hooked on it - stuff like exploring Vault 22 really makes it worthwhile. Oddly my initial impression of the game has improved, which happens, like, never. The grade I give it now is 90%. Go, go Obsidian.
  5. I've got my Ratslayer and you rats is gonna die.
  6. I've started a new game. Wasn't happy with my char not being able to pass so many skill checks, so I made a sniper+ultra intelligent character. Bad stats are endurance, charisma, strength and luck. Agility, perception and Int more or less maxed out. Now all my skills are uber except it takes me two hits to die. Thankfully I'm good at twitch shooting. Frankly its a character built to pass checks and shoot well - not really a well formed role playing character, but we do what we must. +I got this robot companion that can spot enemies a mile away, so I'm racking up headshots like there's no tomorrow. Problem is, even on passive the damn thing is too trigger happy.
  7. On the topic of Fallout and silliness. All Fallout games have dark humor and pop culture references. But this was something that came naturally the first time around. By the second game it became an obligatory feature, and by F3 and FNV it got grotesque. Its exactly the same with Bioware and romances. It will probably be like that with the Witcher and nudity. When you have to cram something in by default it tends to seem forced. I'm with mkreku on this one - I was never a great fan of the Fallout universe. I'm not even suggesting that it becomes grim and dystopic, I'm just saying FNV could have worked better for me with less silliness.
  8. hmmm, have you read the original book? or seen the movie? to me it's very post-apocalyptic I haven't read the book and the movie is one of my all time favorites. The small area called the Zone exists in the real world, which in either case is untouched. Hard to say its post apocalypse considering there was no global scale "apocalypse". Apart from that, it does have a post apocalyptic atmosphere... without an apocalypse. Go figure.
  9. I doubt I'll be finishing the game any time soon - real world calling. Overall I'd say its a good game. What I don't like about it really boils down to things I didn't like either with fallout 3 (engine, interface, inventory, graphics) or with the Fallout universe itself, which has become progressively wackier and wackier (in a way that irritates me) since the original. I mean, a t-rex toy gift shop? Its just not my idea of a post apocalyptic world. Stalker was more post apocalypse for me - and it doesn't even belong to that genre strictly speaking. I'd like to commend whoever did the guns, and whoever insisted on the wild west theme. The soundtrack is nice as are the sound effects. The voices are average, everything is delivered in the same monotonous way and most characters have very childish/soft voices. I can't comment on the story seeing as I only got to Lucky 38 so far, but its interesting enough to hook a player in - unlike Fallout 3. The writing is a bit lazy, but I guess the console kids cant strain their brains to read more than two sentences in one go so, whatever.... The grade I'd probably give FNV would be 85-89%, which is a sort of silver medal. KOTOR II is still my favorite Obsidian game - this would be a close second.
  10. Exactly.
  11. What, they already murdered your neightborhood? If only
  12. Got my hands on the 10mm sub machine gun. Feels wickedly powerful, good job on those guns! These jackal gang dudes keep attacking me and giving me good stuff for no reason.
  13. Its only good in comparison to the OC, otherwise its an average DnD adventure. Its also irritatingly overpowered with the usual epic level wankage. I'll send you mine if you want, free of charge. Along with SoU and NWN. Heh, thanks for the offer, but I'm little worried that they are so full of concentrated hatred from you that they might suddenly go berserk and murder the neighborhood. I would have to send them to Vatican to be exorcised No, really, take them off me

  15. Really? Would that be the english version or the german version? Anything with Jane Jensen is a must have Wat?
  16. A few observations. - The game looks much better with HDR or Bloom OFF, and loses that horrible yellow tint (mostly) - Gromnir was right about the writing. Its not really miles beyond Bethesdas so far. Main character dialog choices are weak. - The "cool ****" syndrome is in full swing - much more in the spirit of Fallout 2 than Fallout 1. Guys in suits, working casinos etc etc. All is jolly considering the world ended. - The weapons are really nice and feel good.
  17. On the topic of P&C adventure games, I have to counter my own argument with Machinarium. Still I wouldn't exactly take that as a sign of P&C going from strength to strength.
  18. In other words, you used "research" to confirm your pre-existing negative opinions.
  19. The former supposedly has a good story. Unfortunately I couldn't find that out through my 2 partial playthroughs because the actual gameplay is absolute rubbish. If you divorce adventure games of challenge and puzzles (Dreamfall, Indigo Propecy, Broken Sword 3), what you're left with is what adventure games are in the absence of obstacles - an interactive movie. That in itself is not necessarily a bad thing, but that's really half a game or not really a game at all. I admit to not knowing the latter. It could be the next best thing since pre sliced bread. @Volourn: the stupidity of criticizing games you never played hasn't dawned on you?
  20. What did it have in common with Beneath a Steel Sky?
  21. Hold Reload. Sweet. Now if only my graphics card worked.
  22. Indigo Prophecy is a point and click adventure game? Nah, I'd call it a "Cinematic interactive Drama". Don't know why people always call it an adventure game. I wasn't really asking, I was expressing surprise at IP being classed as an adventure game.
  23. Well I got it today. I liked the beginning, it certainly hooked me into playing. Graphics are the same as Fallout 3. Meaning, ugly - even on ultra quality. Why does the main character walk around with his single action guns ****ed? It does give you a fast first shot, but its not really realistic to trudge around treacherous terrain with your arm outstretched and gun ****ed unless you want to get shot as you stumble on a rock. Is there a holster weapon button? That said I wont be playing it for a while since my graphics card has started doing its overheating thing again and I have no money to buy a new one. *sigh*
