  1. I hated Star Wars, even as a child. Amongst all the great sci fi movies, it is surely the least. Then again their creator openly stated that those movies are for children, despite everyone looking for some great cosmic philosophy in them. As childrens movies, they're quite good. Blade Runner and Stalker. Now that's sci fi.
  2. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Vol works in retail. In a BDSM sex shop.
  3. Aren't you feeling the love? Indeed! Just so you know, the Old Republic MMO is under development in BioWare Austin. It's a branch of BioWare that was created just for the MMO. If it Kotor were to bomb and BW Austin shut down, BW Edmonton would probably still make Dragon Age 3 and whatever they're doing after Mass Effect 3 comes out. Oh I assume so, but if one thing has been consistent with EA - its how trigger happy and irrational they are. If its really a 300 mil $ investment, and it bombs you can be sure that there'll be a lot of blame to go around. The thing with EA is how they closed down studios whose games still sold well, just because they didn't meet some obscene financial goal. Of course there is the fate that is "worse than death" and that's assimilation into an EA studio, which always ended with talented individuals being forced into making factory products (cough Westwood cough). I wouldn't wish that even on Bioware. I don't know squat about the demands of MMO development but I personally don't think it'll be a failure, what with the large SW fan base. You have to remember that some of the worst games ever made were SW games yet they still sold well. I'm not playing it anyway, three weeks of WoW and one of GW was enough to convince me that MMO's demand too much and give too little.
  4. I was talking about the DA2 pre order NPC all along, obviously I wasn't clear enough on that. Bottom line: I'd never preorder any game for extra content. Even when its free I don't bother with it. The overall game must stand on its own imo. If its bad or average no amount of addons is going to fix it. As for ME2 I played through it once, without all the DLCs and I don't intend to play it again just for that.
  5. Commandos 2 rocked! Some of the prettiest 2D graphics ever.
  6. You mean non-existent in the RP sense, but very useful in combat? edit: (Bad day for edits) but in fact, if you play with zaeed, he has at least as many on-mission chats as all the other characters. It's only the lack of the beloved conversation wheel that really sets him apart. Unless you're taking a swipe at all the ME2 NPCs, which might or might not be valid. Which would make him generally useless if you take into account that ME2 is only challenging on the highest difficulty settings. All I'm saying is - if they can cut him from the game and still consider it a complete experience then he/she isn't very important in the long run,no?
  7. Its strange that people even consider buying preorders just for an extra character especially when we know what, say, ME2's extra character was like. @entrerix: good observation. Of course they have all the reasons to be worried considering that this is a sequel in name only. Especially since the hardcore RPG crowd that had a substantial part in DA's sales is neither blind nor retarded and knows exactly what it wants to play. Considering EA's track record if they screw this and TOR up, they're as good as dead.
  8. So you're saying that a half baked game with a DIY kit to finish it up is more ambitious than a full fledged, largest ever, well written and interesting RPG? Yay. See, I prefer getting a game when I put my money on the table, not an instruction manual and a box of legos. Where I come from its ambitious to carve a statue out of a stone, not to sell a block and a chisel.
  9. A toolset is something new in the world of computer games?
  10. Has this thread been anything else than the 'boohoo, bio sold out and now only makes crap, I'll go play some Mongolian rpg only 10 people have ever heard of' mobbing everybody else? Actually a Mongolian RPG could be interesting, like about the rise of Genghis Khan. I don't really have anything against Bio but they have been like a factory on repeat for a while in my opinion. Probably a good thing business wise but I do think at least their writers could use some fresh ideas. Um, like, there are a million unexplored historical topics that could be made into RPG's, instead of the usual fantasy garbage. Its mind boggling.
  11. I think what qualifies you as a 'hater' is seeing excuses in what I wrote earlier. Or, if you're saying that I like eurogamer and am thinking of excuses for them, you might be right. Bioware, not so much. In fact, the only reason I tend to support Bio is because I don't want to jump on the antiBiotic bandwagon with y'all. I'm far too refined to be a hater. Its such a harsh word. And I was just poking you, don't go rolling d20's for your verbal confrontation skill. You... you... lawyer.
  12. Never played DotA. I'd like to try this when its out. On the topic of Valve, is Half Life dead or what?
  13. I'm a lawyer. I've been a prosecutor, but never a cop. Was it the french kissing gromnir part that gave me away? No its the general ability to find a thousand excuses for something you like. Its like what teenagers do only more refined.
  14. Which applies to every other Bioware game, ever. "Boo. Boo never changes" Never!

  18. This is true. Bioware has a track record of big hero characters, and major sucking up to the PC (indeed it has been a constant and obnoxiously expanding feature ever since BG days). Doesn't really mesh well with the several million other heroes going through the same story. @mkreku: funny isn't it? Even in his jaded state the man obviously has insider info.
  19. It has? How? The design goal is flawed. They want a single-player RPG that they can charge a monthly subscription for, so they inevitably ended up with something that looks like a clunky half-cRPG half-MMO monstrosity. Color me stupid but I don't see what you're proposing the problem is. MMO's share many features of single player RPGs?

  22. You hope he's right? What exactly have we to gain from Bioware and Mythic falling hard? I get to say: "I told you so."* (this applies to Bioware, I'm not familiar with Mythic or particularly interested in it) *lemme elaborate. IMO the only way for Bioware games I liked to play to reappear is for Bioware to collapse and split into smaller teams that can work with more artistic freedom. Back to the drawing board so to speak. I'm interested in the talent Bioware owns, but I couldn't care less for the company itself. In fact, I think its impeding creativity.
  23. LOL at the Avatar comparison. I sure hope he's right. Expanded version: http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=269533 That makes more sense.
  24. Whats with the Two Worlds hype, the first game was garbage
