  1. Yeah, but that's kinda sad in a way. I mean, Obs people aren't some bozos picked up from a local pub, they have a serious rep from Interplay/Black Isle. I can't believe they never get an offer to do an original RPG from an existing license, like, say White Wolf's World of Darkness or DnD or whatever. When I think of Chris Avellone as the man behind PS:T I find it hard to believe he either needs or wants to work with leftovers. Also, here is another Obs specific questions. How come there's a trend with each game being shipped with so many bugs. What's up with that?
  2. I'm interested how it came to be that Obsidian primarily does sequels to successful games of other studios and why they can't/won't/don't persist in doing unique/licensed IP's. You have to admit, its not exactly usual for a company to do sequels by trade.
  3. Been musing on my favorite sci fi movies. This was the result. http://www.imdb.com/list/7G2-Xed6MMo/ Slim considering the hundreds I watched. I guess there can only be a few of the best.
  4. Lockpick and Speech are mandatory (and Repair). I've also started a melee character and its cakewalk so far - but fixing melee weapons isn't easy and my prime weapon - Chances Knife is falling apart. The fact of the matter is this: there are very few good melee weapons. On the other hand there are a pile of unstoppable insta kill unarmed weapons.
  5. Yes. This was the most painful thing after the storyline. It was all brown tones and red. Looking at it a year after the Witcher was very demoralizing. But then again, all NWN games were also crap to look at. They were all blue/purple/gray.
  6. BGII is next in the Atari catalog. They've exausted everything else.
  7. Right I have misunderstood. Maybe you can expalin better than me since you've played DA:O on the xbox too. But if I understand, the problem is that it's more difficult to position charachters using the analogue stick while the game is paused. Let me just warn you that arguing with him is senseless. Example: even after being repeatedly told that my favorinte NPC of all time is Morte, not Minsc and Boo, he still repeats this mantra: That was because I criticized him for saying "NWN was the best ever", which he forgot was written in his sig. As Nordom would put it: "The issue no longer equals total logic". The issue being Volourn that is.
  8. I don't know, maybe you're right. The game is clearly more action oriented than DA:O and the combat animations are flashy and over the top. Still, the game is stat based and not twitch based, in the PC you'll still play point and click with some kind of tactical view, so I do not understand the reference to Final Fantasy and for me that's uncorrect from any point of view. PS: About TW... I liked the game but the combat was really ****ty and more action oriented than DA:O since it was not based on stats but on skills combo and timing. TW2 is even going to have more action elements with real time events (or whatever they call them). So, I really do not get why DA2 get all the hate and TW2 get all the praise... maybe only because one game is made by Bioware. I though TW combat was fun (intense and well animated). But that wasn't the real strength of the game, or why I liked it so much. DAO's combat system was fine as well. The problem was with the rest of the game, specifically with its main plot and characters. I'm not praising TW2 yet, I'm waiting to see what happens. For me TW2 has no gameplay standards to achieve, it was always a third person action thing. D2 gets hate because its moving away from a gameplay style that worked, that I liked and that Bioware did well to a gameplay that will be at best average, that I don't like and that Bioware will have trouble pulling off well. Its going the way of Mass Effect without any reasonable justification considering how well the original game sold, which is the most frustrating part of all. The point is this: just at the moment old school PC RPGs prove that they are still viable, Bioware chooses to piss on that and introduce console oriented changes as if there weren't enough action RPGs done by them in the last decade. Even if a tactical view stays, coupled with an autoattack - DA's combat, dialog, blank slate protagonist etc. weren't so broken that they had to take an axe to them.
  9. @ Vol. Which just goes to show you know jack squat about action games.
  10. looks awful not even remotely resembling The Witcher. like a bad attempt at a button masher, Darksiders comes to mind Its obvious what it looks like. Its a third person console action game, with RPG elements. In fact, it looks just like Final Fantasy XII. Since Bioware sucks at action programming, the game is already outclassed by decade old dedicated action games in the field of animation and combat flow. In fact, without the storyline (which is bound to be praised) the game's combat segment, looks exactly as it is - mediocre - just like Jade Empire.
  11. And then someone says its not Tomb Raider.
  12. No, this character is supposed to end up in the Legion, but I'm still on the beginning and its too early to kill NCR. Melee is definitely OP when you have STR 9 AGIL 9 and END 9, random light armor and Chance's knife.
  13. Something weird is going on here. I started a new character "Conan" intending to play melee carnage. At level 3 I killed the entire powder gangers base without breaking a sweat, with Chance's knife. At normal difficulty. With 1 stimpack. This is insane. It must be the 9 endurance.
  14. The core game is the same but everything else has subtle or huge differences. The end result is a wholly different product. You can compare them as games but you;d be hard pressed to compare them as Fallout games. FNV is a Fallout game. F3 is epic fantasy (Oblivion) in a Fallout skin.
  15. That's why I love these people
  16. Reading reviews I find it fascinating that people even compare this game to Fallout 3. Whats even more fascinating is when that comparison is negative. As in: this is all okay but F3 was better yadayadayadayada. The similarities are so superficial its mind boggling. This tells me that reviews today are written by people who think Halo and CoD4 are the ****. This also tells me that they played 3-5 hours of the game max and then wrote their reviews.
  17. I don't think its possible. I tried, but there were no dialog options with the Elder. Mr. House views them as a permanent threat.
  18. Finished the game at 40 hours in siding with Mr. House. The endgame was predictable but interesting. The actual ending was okay. Overall this is easily the best game Obsidian ever made. Its simply the most well rounded and thought out product in their catalog. Congratulations. You have Boo's stamp of approval. FNV is probably the only game that I've seen that does branching plots and C&C's in a fully convincing manner. The Fallout universe was convincingly expanded (as far as something that silly will go). The factions reside in a moral gray area (some more than others) which really makes picking a side interesting. The crappy gameplay of Fallout 3 was also improved probably as much as it was humanely possible. That said, I still prefer the dialog and storyline heavy MotB and KOTOR type games. C&C's and multiple factions/endings are not the primary reasons I play RPGs. I generally prefer a tighter story, even at the price of some linearity. FNV is not that type of game, and its too story light for my purposes (but I'd say the same for any other Fallout game). Overall, to the people that it was intended - I think they have no reason to complain. If NMA bashes this IMO that will just prove they think F2 was unreasonably good. In fact this is, in many respects, a superior game. 9/10
  19. I liked Benny's voice over as well. What I didn't like are the non important NPC voiceovers. They are so flat and mild in tone you'd think everyone's stoned.

  21. Ah, rural Canada. I think its just rural, lets not insult Canada.
  22. The Witcher was different from the start. It was never a party based or tactical. Besides, that game actually looks good on the various trailers.
  23. I like the game more already.
  24. You should look into Age of Decadence, if you haven't already. I downloaded the combat demo today. Unfortunately its horribly unoptimized so I couldn't get much out of it.
