  1. Hey, bro. You might want to take a look at this, too. Only in Russia(n-speaking areas) right? Wake up. Yeah, violent protesters confront police, and in the process a policeman is elbowed in the eye (this is on film). The woman's excuse is that at some point someone had grabbed her boob. This totally proves police brutality. http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2014/05/cecily-mcmillan-guilty-assaulting-nypd-officer.html
  2. Mercenaries would be a good solution. I remember there was an African country where 100 very effective mercenaries were replaced with 1500(?) useless UN troops at UN's insistence and everything went to hell.

  4. Well, all games that both a) have a modicum of ambition and b) want to be polished end up with a lot of stuff on the cutting room floor, and everything that's cut was something someone worked on. I imagine what Gaider says there has fairly broad application across the industry. There's a difference between cutting fat and cutting bone. I guess we'll see which was the case here. I don't think you can make a great game without taking the time to get it right, cutting good content for the sake of profitability is something I expect from an assembly shop, not a crafted game. "Across the industry", sure, I think the tipping point where greed surpassed artistic integrity has happened some time ago.
  5. For the record, America did practically wipe out the Viet Cong, it's the NVA we had trouble with after Tet. Also the Tamil Tigers have been wiped out, unless my info is out of date. US also pacified Iraq, before Iraqis kicked us out and went back to the way it was. Almost any insurgency can be dealt with, providing one is willing to do whatever it takes.
  6. Let's not generalize to everyone, shall we? Probably the most effective thing we can do is train the Nigerians to respond to those kinds of problems themselves. I'm not sure a military intervention would work out so well, and is bound to be very controversial, which alone means Obama won't do it. Okay now, I don't know all that much about Nigeria, but what I've read doesn't exactly paint a nice picture of the Nigerian army. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-05-08/nigeria-army-abuses-may-undermine-fight-against-islamists.html If by training Nigerians, you mean the Nigerian soldiers would be taught not to vent their frustration on civilians, then yes, that'd probably be a good first step. Yes, that is normally a part of Western provided training.
  7. QTE's worked great in Shenmue, other than that I don't seem to play the type of games that utilize QTE's.
  8. I'm not sure it's literally every game, may be the last three games. I know even KOTOR had a planned planet cut, but that was in the early stages and I think only the story was written and nothing else was done.

  10. An update from David Gaider : http://www.gamebanshee.com/news/113639-david-gaider-on-dragon-age-inquisition-s-current-state.html Surprised he'd admit that, and doesn't seem to bode well.
  11. Fox News actually covers stuff all the other networks try to ignore/cover up, because they're all in love with Obama and are 99% Democrats. Look up Leland Yee and find out how long it took CNN to cover him, as opposed to Wendy Davis.
  12. Speaking of Japanese internment, you have to consider it in the context of the times. I know it goes against the prevalent groupthink, but still. http://www.historynet.com/zero-hour-on-nihau.htm http://www.historynet.com/the-niihau-incident.htm Fascinating story btw.
  13. The myth of STEM shortage : http://www.theatlantic.com/education/archive/2014/03/the-myth-of-the-science-and-engineering-shortage/284359/ Propagated by corporations to justify importing cheap foreign labor. 14. Oh, no, it's GO-TO! http://www.defenseone.com/technology/2014/04/why-there-will-be-robot-uprising/82783/ And I think I just figured out his name stands for "go to".
  15. Democracy and rule of law are really two sides of the same coin. You can't have genuine one without genuine the other.
  16. I'd say there's about as much chance of that happening as of going back to federalism. In fact I heard in Texas the feds are trying to buy up more land, then lease it back to the owner just so they can control its use. And of course the EPA is about to start regulating every back yard puddle. But we can always hope.
  17. The government controls so much money it's inevitable it becomes corrupt. But that's what happens when the voters want the government to do everything for them. We get the government that we deserve. There is a movement for a new constitutional convention btw, to try to fix some of these problems.
  18. It's an oligarchy : http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/usa/10769041/The-US-is-an-oligarchy-study-concludes.html
  19. That's a bit harsh, I'm sure the argument would be that the EU wouldn't be foreign once they'd joined- though the domination part is pretty accurate... Meh, at least the easterners don't want to force the western parts into a union with Russia that they don't want and only want the right to do so themselves, which puts them a step above the westerners. Who don't have the same consideration when forcing their eastern brethren into an EU process that they don't want. You really think joining the EU is the same as becoming a Russian vassal or breaking up a sovereign country? I guess a lot of European countries missed their big chance to be invaded by SU, just ask East Germans how fun that was. No, at least on the illegal part. The ICJ judgement on Kosovo established that it is not illegal to outright secede under the complete military occupation of an external power. And while it would be nice if '(un)ethical' meant anything in politics, it doesn't. I guess it depends on what qualifies as illegal. I suspect the ICJ decision had a lot more to do with politics than with justice. Edit: Also, it's not necessarily that the secession itself is illegal, it's the actions of a foreign power in facilitating/forcing that secession.
  20. I'm sure the well-being of the ranchers is at the top of their priorities. Knee-jerk cynicism is no substitute for facts that are mdst likely freely available. Anybody who writes like that is more interested in scoring ideological pionts than in informing their audience, and not to be trusted as a serious source of information. Their putative reason has been stated several times already, including in that article, it was to protect the supposedly endangered turtle, because everyone knows turtles are the favorite food for cows. Of course you're right, the true motives are very easy to determine when dealing with the most transparent administration in history.
  21. I don't think the Kiev protesters and the separatists are at all comparable. One was fighting against domination by a foreign power, the other is fighting to separate from their internationally recognized state. Mind you, I don't necessarily assume that wanting to secede is illegitimate, it's just that assistance for such movements by foreign powers is both unethical and illegal.
  22. I'm sure the well-being of the ranchers is at the top of their priorities.
  23. So, basically, the guy lost a court case back in '98, has had all his attempts to appeal laughed out of court, and he's been defying the court order ever since. The feds haven't quite figured out an effective way to enforce the ruling, though, and when they tried recently, a BLM officer did something dumb and it went viral in wacko-militia circles. Yes, the government has the law on its side, but why is it doing everything possible to harm its own citizens? http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2014/04/why-you-should-be-sympathetic-toward-cliven-bundy.php
  24. For those as confused by the situation as I was, here's an explanation :http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2014/04/12/The-Saga-of-Bundy-Ranch I guess when the government continually ignores and violates the law pretty soon citizens start to do the same.
  25. There seems to be a problem with this idea, where would the energy to do all these conversions come from? Unrelated, they're trying to raise $2.5 million to save a little girl : http://www.foxnews.com/health/2014/04/14/saving-eliza-4-year-olds-family-fights-to-fund-clinical-trial-to-treat-deadly/
