  1. Eh? Like having us draw up what your NPCs will look like? I'm pretty sure there are plenty of illustrations of WH 40k characters. Why not try a search on Deviant Art? I saw a very hot Sister Sororita sketch there once. I hope that's a motivator lol.
  2. Lol, that would be me xD My teammates are kinda new to RP, so making up a story about their chars is usually, well, vague to plainly unhelpful, so I stopped doing that, also my current DM isn't interested so much in backstory as much as giving us a much larger picture of what's out there, we're usually getting our asses handed to us so we pretty much eat poop from all the higher level NPCs all the time As far as the general outline of the story, I like it. The miners could discover an artifact that corrupts everything around it and the PCs could salvage it and take it to this larger city for further investigation only to corrupt the city itself and maybe even the PCs or if they are so set against it eventually be the only ones left unchanged with the ultimate task of destroying it. Of course within the city there would be various factions citing for power and the artifact itself for greater influence while the PCs are caught right in the middle of this war. In the end they could either side with a faction and give the artifact upon reclaiming it or destroying it after they've found a way, pretty much like the VtM Bloodlines game's culmination.
  3. Like I said, healing/buffing is main my purpose and since Fighter is out of the picture for now, tanking. The rest of the party offers lots of damage so I would be redundant in that aspect. Spells and defense, something like Dwarven Defender with Cleric spells. Yeah, that's kinda abusive but anything even remotely like that would be great. Also, I'm Human Male so that's another limitation but I'm sure that my DM would be able to make some house rule changes where applicable. I didn't find anything that I like in Complete Divine but if someone could enlighten me if I missed something there, go right ahead, I'm listening. Thanks in advance.
  4. I'm currently a lvl 6 Favored Soul of the "bust a cap while beefed up variety" on a typical fantasy setting and I was wondering what should I aim for a Prestige Class. Alignment is Neutral Good, stats are Str 18 Dex 12 Con 18 Int 14 Wis 19 Cha 16. Anything else can be added at appropriate levels so it's not a big deal, anyway, open to suggestions. My main goal is healing/buffing, tanking and dmg dealing where applicable. Spell Level progression is imperative, so I won't settle for a Prestige Class that does not progress spells at each level, dmg dealing is not necessary, party consists of a Bard, a Ranger and a Mage, Fighter is kidnapped lol.
  5. You people forget that in Fable men could fall for you. There I was strolling down my home town and half the men where enamored with me while the female population just went "humpf!". Fable did ok as far as sales go, which s why we are waiting for 2, but promoting a game because you can have gay sex ... I mean imagine this: Movie Guy doing an AP ad saying "Mike Thorton is a man of mystery *shows in game footage* ... action *more in game footage* ... and MANLY LOVE *in gayme footage* * SFX of the needle veering off the LP* You see, implying that he gets the girl works for all those macho men that used to play football in High School and went out at age 14 saying "Yeah, I'm 21!" just to get beers from the liquor store. It's like getting another chance to go Rambo on that mofo! And that is encouraged by the gaming industry, so instead of getting better, more innovative games, we are usually left with interactive versions of Stalone and Arnold. But I am rumbling. I just meant to say that, at least for OE's first original game, gay sex would probably take sales down.
  6. So your reasons for including gay sex is 1) There is no such thing as male friendship/bonding (don't mistake bonding for bondage!) 2) Women in games are blow up dolls Maybe I'm a little crude but I think that sums up your point, am I right? I'm not into manly love, but if there is a reason why I support the option is exactly that, freedom of choice, if you want to, you should have the option.
  7. I am wondering if/ hoping there will be a big name doing the voice overs. Fallout 1 had Tony Shalhoub AND Ron Perlman, wonder if anyone famous will pop up. Maybe David Hayter is Mike!
  8. Hmm, then it would rightly seem I misjudged you. Expressing skepticism is something understandable, though my slightly controlled enthusiasm is quite the opposite. It would have been much better if you had just said "Oh God, please don't do it like Bioware" in the first place, in those EXACT words.
  9. Huh, when did I say or do any of that? I assumed from the aggressive stance you have towards ME that something like that is what seems to be your problem with it, is my assumption wrong? I think that's what I read in your review of the game after all, not in those exact words but as the gist of it. As for the hate ... when you keep saying "you're doing it wrong" all the time and that your way isn't just the right way but the only way in a sense, you are offending not only their dedication but also their experience, their effort, the very sweat of their brow. For me, such contempt and disregard, I can only take it as hate. Then again, just as defining an RPG, this in your eyes may very well be constructive criticism, but just because posting on the internet is faceless doesn't mean it can't be personal.
  10. Is it that you believe the whole game will be short, boring and unimaginative? You haven't even said what you want! You don't want AP turning ME, I got that, I read the reasons too, but why so much hate on the devs, the game and the posters over here? And not just you, the other side is being just as offensive. Obsidian came up with an idea for a game, they utilized it, it was their inspiration. If they had made a poll "We are gonna make a new game, what do you want it to be like?" and every poster said I want what WoD wants and then they answered with "Screw you guys, I'm going home" like Cartman, THEN I would understand. At this point, does it even matter? Would they change the whole game 6 months before release because of one fan as dedicated as he may be? Maybe making a thread about what you would like to see in an Obsidian game get you somewhere later but at this point it's pointless. Personally, I am all for the things that BI stood for and integrated in most of her games, but gamers change, people change, the technology changes, fads change, everything changes. I don't have the patience I had 10 years ago to spend hours upon hours to get through Baldur's Gate 2 length games, nor can I spare that much time. But I'd rather get a game that lasts 15 hours and is consistent *cough Kotor cough* than get a game that is 70 hours long and boring as hell like FF8 was for me. I've been an RPG fan for many years, a dedicated BioWare and BI fan since, I dunno, 10 years maybe? maybe more, I'm a D&D veteran since the 2nd AD&D rules, I'd like to think that with my years of RPG experience I can have a widely acceptable idea of what an RPG is. Oblivion wasn't an RPG, that much is clear, ME might fail as an RPG for you but it was a million times more of an RPG that Oblivion. From what I've read and heard about AP it should be an RPG, even if these qualities are utilized poorly. Just because it isn't your cup of tea, doesn't mean it should be done your way, especially when you aren't the one funding it, it's just too much to ask of anyone.
  11. From a thread about "what is Obsidian doing to distance AP from ME we went to "I hate ME and OE shouldn't make AP like that". All these acronyms are making me twitch. I'm not gonna discuss what an RPG is. Simply describing the common things the games Patrick listed have isn't a way to do it either. If WoD's idea of an RPG is taking the PnP experience and putting it into shinny graphics I don't think the game is up to that yet, or any game for that matter. You might complain about how linear it is but every game you start to get to the finish line could be blamed for being linear. GTA games, since GTA III at least, allow for the greatest non linearity in games ever, but then again, if I am not mistaken, you didn't like those, you wanted AP to have stat TB combat and dislike the fact that it's an over the shoulder TPS. But there are a great deal of RPGs that have gone for the FP perspective since Might and Magic. I'm not talking about Dark Messiah, but the classic M&M games like The Mandate of Heaven. It was turn based, stats determined combat but you still had to aim at the guy you wanted to shoot, just gave you more time. I don't think you can argue that M&M VI was an RPG and a good one at that, though it lacked the dialogs of latter games. I am still trying to understand not why you hate ME, I think we established that, but what makes you think that OE devs went " Oooh, ME! I like that! Wait a minute, *copy* *paste* let's change the title to AP, voila!" . We haven't seen anything on the game and you are already burning it and sacrificing it to Satan, Vecna or whoever it is you worship. You're like the deranged woman from "The Mist" who preaches about God without any idea or proof of what's going on simply by seeing what you want to see. I bitch about Fallout 3, but I have good reason to, all you need to do it look at a screenshot from 1 or 2 and compare it to 3 and you can plainly see there is something wrong, you see a screenshot of AP and automatically start shouting "Heathens!". aren't you a little quick to judge? You have to play something to truly hate it! You played ME, you disliked it, you feel ripped off. It may seem small but it's part of a trilogy so they need to drag it off a bit, also it's a game targeting XBOX users. Solely XBOX USERS!!! They got an XBOX because they think Maden '09 is the best game ever, a shooter is only good if a beefed up marine in power armor is doing the ass kicking and all other machines, i.e. PCs, are too complex for them to use. They need to stab themselves to find out which end of the knife is the pointy one. I would finally like to apologize for my lack of paragraphs.
  12. I don't think that just because it is an action RPG with guns people should think *wham* ME! Sure the game shares the shame engine as ME, but it is an Espionage Thriller, the closest to it as a setting should be the Bourne Consp ... on second thought, let's just stick to ME, yeah.
  13. I don't mean to pry ... but WOOOOOOOW! What's with all this quoting and sub-quoting and referencing and backstabbing? Chill out! Seriously, this type of combat has been done on Action RPGs before and it worked well in the past, let's not get ahead of ourselves and condemn something that we have not as of yet seen, ok? I think it would be cool if combat was turn based stat dependent and you could see your char dodging bullets like Neo in the process but we have to keep this in mind; this is OE's first IP and her main goal is to make a game appealing to casual gamers as well as old school BI devoted fans, sure it would have been great to get a modern day RPG a la fallout with its turn based combat but that would be like saying "we got our fan base, screw the rest of the world" and as much as I would like that, it can't be done. OE has to start off somewhere and then make a bold move when the time is right to a true RPG style game with no action elements. The fact that it worked in the KotoR games does not mean that every game should be done after them, besides OE wants to distance herself from BioWare as much as possible in order to make her own name in the gaming world. If AP is to be an action-RPG it needs SOME action elements and that usually translates in combat, if pointing the gun in generally the right direction isn't your cup of tea, you can always sit this one out, if it means that much to you, but this game can be played in more than one way and not just run 'n' gun Serious Sam style. If you are not referring to AP, start a similar topic in another part of the forums so it can be generally about games, otherwise QFT and as I said before I do like stat based combat as it was done in the Fallout series and in the KotoR games, the BG series, the NWN series, the IWD series, everywhere, but this is an ACTION RPG, get over it, it's not Oblivion with guns just because of that.
  14. I have to agree about TDK. Best comic book movie I've seen, Ledger was amazing as the Joker and I am completely awed by his performance. I don't want to make a point that he was better, rather that he was a Joker deserving of the 00s. Caesar Romero was a great Joker and I doubt anyone back then could have pictured the Joker as something more than a clown gone ballistic. Jack Nicholson was a very fitting Joker, I'd say he carries himself a little loon too. Mark Hamill did a fantastic job as a Joker for the animated show, but since it was mainly for kids, he just couldn't play a Joker as M rated as TDK's. As the viewing crowd matured and the definition of evil has become a lot better defined since the Joker was originally conceived, I believe that the Joker could not be portrayed in modern standards any different way and be considered fitting. I had hardly seen any footage of TDK and I suspected that Ledger might have pulled a great performance on this one. I don't think that Ledger was a bad actor nor one of the greatest, he was good and his looks helped a lot but for all actors there is the capability to learn and to become better. Last movie I saw Ledger in was The Brothers Grimm and I must say that I was not all that impressed by his performance, which is why at first I couldn't picture him as the Joker or see a better Joker than Nicholson's, and yet there I was at the end, wanting to congratulate in standing ovation cast and crew for a fantastic overall experience. I am just worried about the 3rd installment, there will be no such Joker there, I wonder if he can be overcome? and if so by who?
  15. Well, remember how in ME had this huge crosshair that meant "if it's in here it's getting shot"? I'm guessing it will have another huge crosshair like that so you won't miss easily. As for shooter fans, they can always up the ante.
  16. Red Alert 3 is a strategy game that involves an airplane transforming into a robot as a commander, capturing and defeating the enemy base. http://www.gametrailers.com/player/36361.html See?
  17. Medieval 2: Total War. And Empires: Total War iz comin' to rox your PC boxers off. If any of you guys had a genesis growing up as kids, you'd be totally hyped about the new Golden Axe game. I spent weeks on those when I was a kid. Also, remember Universe At War? Condemned? All these are games published by Sega and soon to come is Space Siege, personally I liked Dungeon Siege 2 and I have hopes that this will saturate me till D3 comes
  18. Did you ever talk to your companions? The influence system was a poor substitute for C&C. All it did was force you to kiss your party members' asses to unlock content necessary to fully understand the story. It actually undermined roleplaying by making you behave contrary to how you'd normally want to, and provided no alternative reward. Plus it was pretty broken, especially in Mandalore's case. It wasn't substitute. Reason for its existence was to replace the Bioware's standard, moronic "oh you gained new level. You know I have no reason to trust you at all but let me tell you my deepest traumas and darkest secrets so you can unlock my special mission later in game". And it was broken only on Mandalore's case - and that's due to the cut content That is just silly criticism. It isn't criticism at all. You ROLEPLAY your character. If you get out of character to kiss some character's ass then you're simply metagaming/whatever to get "all teh goodies". Then again if you're roleplaying manipulative character fawning and stroking your companion's egos etc. would be way to go. Or just roleplay different character that agrees with different party members on your next playthrough. Maybe your LS paladin of mighty justice with lightsaber doesn't do well with HK-47. Well, you can try to infuriate him to point he just doesn't care about telling his secrets out (like random_n00b said. It works with everyone) or maybe you just shrug it off and gain points and benefits with another party member. Next time play badass sith who just loves HK-47. Cue to all the bonuses and stuff from him, but character like Disciple or Handmaiden would propably hate you. No "goodies" from them then, boohoo If your (natural) INT score is good enough you can also intuivitely guess stuff about Kreia for example. Way you could reflect and define Exile in superbly written dialogues is on entirely different level compared to any Bioware game, namely K1. What was the last great game Sega published? Sega has numerous awesome titles under its belt currently (and I used to be one dissing Sega). For example the much beloved Total War series How's that different from other quests? There was a merchant on Yavin station. Slave deal isn't that big. But if you make deal with slavers you can come and get your share of profit every once in a while. There was some cut content related to it too. The merchants... other one has a lot better inventory, other one has weak and not as good rewards. However if you choose to aid the weak one later in game after stabilizig Onderon and other planets you get some of the best stuff in the whole game from the merchant who has now made trade deals with people on those planets. In K1 you could kill Juhani, side with either gang on Taris, side with one or neither of the Sith masters on Korriban, kill most of your companions. None of this stuff is world changing, just the usual RPG quests with localized consequences. Actually K1 did have something world changing, you could poison the shark on Manaan and make health packs rare and expensive. But this small stuff is not really C&C, let alone living, breathing world you're influencing. There's only one decision in Kotor 1 that really, really matters. Killing your companions and such are directly tied to it. Well, minus Juhani. That's some good C&C you're right about that. Sith deal on Korriban too somewhat. Then again in K2 you can get 4 different party members depending on your gender and aligment. And cause death of Visas on Telos. There was a lot choices around Nihilus fight. Too bad cut content and way too easy Kotor combat system ruined that. Well, TSLRP should take care of that... Poisoning the shark didn't make medpacks rare, it only made them more pricey (100 creds or so IIRC). Of course in the end of the game you were drowning in the cash so it didn't matter. And those are small scale C&C. KotOR 2 would've had some additional really major ones - namely the whole ending sequence in which all your deeds mattered. HK Factory stuff defines (which you couldn't know forehand) fate of Malachor V, your standing with the companions define what kind of conflicts happen... You could also choose to abandon your companions and not resuce single one of them. In battle of Telos (in early drafts) you could also end up joining Nihilus and/or go blow up Republic's command ship, Sojourn (bye bye Carth!) Oh, and you also would've been able to destroy Citadel Station. Then again Kotors aren't paragons of roleplaying. However Black Isle's Fallouts and Planescape Torment ARE. And Obsidian Entertainment's design philosophies and core people have worked on those very titles. Heck, MCA was lead designer of Torment and all by himself wrote HALF of the humongous amounts of written text in the game. OE also has people of Troika's people on board (and both Bloodlines and Arcanum contained a lot of roleplaying and C&C. Esp. Arcanum which might be only title capable of challenging Fallout when it comes to C&C), namely Brian Mitsoda. Really, I just don't see where your disbelief come from. There's no basis for it, remembering the people and design philosophies involved here Wow, and I thought I was the only person making huge posts like that. Bravo.
  19. Personally, I would go for Fighter/Barbarian 9/1 x2, Sorcerer, Cleric, Rogue. There are many traps in the game and they are usually pretty deadly, so you need a good rogue to disarm them. A Sorcerer has more spells per day so combining some offensive spells with some buffs is always good and even better to have them in quantity rather than quality. The Cleric can be versatile thanks to his spontaneous casting ability going from buffs to healing spells so further need to talk about that. You will need 2 fighter/barbarians to take the beating because you should be ready to miss, a lot. For me 3 out of 4 attacks were misses, it's like there was no way on earth I could roll higher than 7,oh, and enjoy your 5 foot step cause there isn't one, attacks of opportunity on your character will almost always result in critical hits, laying him on the ground for absolutely no reason. I finished the game and it's pretty broken but still managed to get some fun out of it. Also, it has a 9.0c Direct X bug that doesn't allow you to pick up drops, so you might wanna patch that up.
  20. I like this trailer more than the other for some odd reason. Same here but IT'S THE SAME DAMN THING!!!!
  21. I waited 4 years to see what? The Siege of Osgiliath from the LotR movie in cg? and for 57 seconds. Thanks Bioware!
