  1. Well I agree that Gothic with it's simple game mechanics can easily be translated to the X360/PS3. And while I don't give a rats ass for G4 (no PB, no true Gothic), I'm happy that they now can focus on a new property.... if they also find a new potential publisher, that is.
  2. Maybe I should reinstall G3. Now that I've a completely new GFX card and 2GB RAM, it should run better I think. My memories from last year weren't so fond....
  3. Good. I'm looking forward to a new property from PB.
  4. There's no definite statement the patch is coming or not, just "maybe, maybe not". I think what PB initally (last year) wanted to do is to fix their broken Genome engine, in order to have a viable basis for future projects. Maybe they just thought they could fix some G3 stuff in addition, if feasable. But alas, it seems like they may have abandoned G3 completely in order to move on...they're a small team after all. Prolly even smaller than, let's say, Bio's Live Team. HA! For the next project I wish a smaller, more focused project with a fixed Genome engine. It still has a ton of potential. And I also hope they still to what they're best at: Creating gameworlds, not game pieces of a world (a'la NWN2).
  5. I take the Elite anytime and anywhere, because I prefer to stay on the winner side, n00bs!
  6. Oh god I so much hoped Warren would buy the DX license, but no.... No NO No nO!!! It's some Newbie studio in Montreal, where else? What the heck.... It's like the whole game industry is gonna be squeezed into Montreal. What's so special about this place, apart from Jade Raymond, anyway?
  7. GameSpot Preview Seems pretty involved to me. As I said, he's giving a lot of interviews - he talks. But the Lead Designer/System Designer etc. is someone else. He even admitted that once in some other interview. The times "Lord British" working his own ass of are over. Garriot is just a brand now.
  8. Certainly not. He isn't even really involved in Tabula Rasa. People just exploit his name, but he's actually "just" doing managing stuff and interviews.
  9. If I can have that from Books and movies, why shouldn't that work for games, either? Just being "fun" is not enough for me. If games are just "fun", developers could just abandon story-driven games completely and make Tetris clones. Edit: I meant "Tetris". And don't be a jerk, Sand.
  10. Too many mindless MMO, that is. I've yet to see a MMO concept that could appeal to adults and not to some asocial teens. The existence of countless adults in World of Warcraft and EVE kind of contradicts what you see, Morgoth. Being adult doesn't mean grown up. WoW doesn't use any adult or compelling themes. It's just, as theslug pointed out, a waste of time and money without any intellectual reward.

  12. Agreed. Funcom is trying to adress this issue with their soon to be released "Age of Conan" MMO, by starting the game in a Single-Player mode for the first hour or so, then have the choice to continue alone or real MMO mode. Here from the AoC FAQ: Well, that's certainly a step above WoW. The more they go away from the stupid monster slaughter gameplay in TSW, the better.
  13. Poster extraordinary. Hot Asian chicks and Cthulhu, who couldn't fall in love with such a game?
  14. Iw asn't talking about Aliens, I was talking about the other RPG signed with Sega.
  15. Who? She looks hawt, that's all that matters.
  16. Yes, MMO. Mummy help me you might think. But this one looks pretty interesting, and might as well get me into the genre. Plus extraordinary writer-genius Ragnar Tornquist (The Longest Journey, Dreamfall) works on it, and he often claimed he wants to do something innovative with it. But yes, let's wait and see.... Check it out over Eurogamer! And don't miss out the awesome concept art! Oh yes, maybe you want to read the official Press release, too.
  17. What the hell....what's about Obsidian's Project Georgia. Where is it?
  18. Has anyone ever heard of Kane & Lynch: Dead Men? Seems to shape up very nicely. It's just too bad it slipped to the already very busy Fall release window, thanks to that stupid PS3 port.
  19. Do you actually have free access to professional Video Workshops like Gnomon, Digital Tutors, Video2Brain etc? I know I do spend quite a lot of money with that to expand my know-how with my...sorta "Hobby" Art stuff. So much money I've to refrain from buying too much games (not that there're actually many good games these days I must own).
  20. You'll only see that if they make an isometric-view game. That chance for that is, of course, the same as Volourn finishing his NWN mod. R00fles!
  21. Yeah but then why do you call yourself a "Game Design Academic"? Isn't that a little...contrarily?
  22. Game Design and Art isn't a Science, so no Academics are needed there, either. While technical background is important (i.e. 3D graphics), there's certainly no need from stuff like you described. Except Software Engineer/Programmers of course, they have to deal with formulas etc. on a daily basis.
  23. Academics serving in IT and Science are essential if you plan to run a "Technology Company", like let's say Epic games. I also heard that there're a lot of MIT graduates that work on Bioshock (Irrational Games). Chris Kline, the Lead Programmer on Bioshock, in fact once told he researched on "artificial animals" at the MIT.... not that I really know what that means, though. :'( There's also that guy (forgot his name, Ex-Looking Glass, Ex-Ionstorm, now at Junction point) who developed signal-processors for mechanical arms (Medical Cybernetics). I'm sure a lot of this knowledge can flow in in some technical innovations. Although I agree if you're rather a "Content Company" that puts it's efforts into doing everything possible to serve the story/game solely without some weird adventures into dynamics or AI areas, you certainly don't need to. In the end it's always a struggle between focus vs. survivability or "market demands" ( )
  24. This is a bit annoying. What would you be looking at exactly? Bethesda has never done a Fallout game before, so what exactly are you comparing with? Surely, you must realize that looking at Oblivion is a bit pointless, at least when it comes to art design? Well, for a start, it's the same (art) team that is working on F3. They already have done a lousy job in that regard with Oblivion, that's why I said they'll never reach the quality level of real artists a'la Leon & Co. There's alot of graphical expression that serves the story in Fallout, if they mess that up, half of the game is already lost. Hey, the internet wouldn't be that fun without some exaggerations.... And when it comes to Bethesda, doom and gloom is never really far away. Oh the DRAMA!
  25. This concept art is from Craig Mullins, he's a freelance illustrator/concept artists that also gets hired from the movie industry. That's no testimony how good or bad the in-game art of F3 will be, however. Looking at Beth's previous game, I wouldn't get my hopes up, though. Leonard Boyarsky created an unique and memorable art style with F1/2, I doubt Bethesda can reach that.
