What's up with games that don't feature subtitles?
Morgoth replied to Matthew Rorie's topic in Computer and Console
You're just butthurt because Swedish is too ugly and unimportant in the world to get it's own game localization. I'm Spanish and I pretty much agree with him... If you think some English original voiceovers are bad, cheap dubbing is EXCRUCIATING. I've downloaded English versions of games I own just so I can do away with it. Now I just order from Gameplay UK. I also prefer the Original (often English) version of games (and sometimes films), but that doesn't give someone the right to call others "smelly" and "ignorant" because they prefer a full translation in their own language. Best option is just to keep making games multilingual. Works great for PS3 games, and often PC game do the same. The loser, as always, is the 360 due to the tiny disc space. -
Oh "probably a plot"! Great!

The vocal version of the theme song is horrible, just horrible. I like the non-vocal one though. And the video doesn't show me anything new. This game is supposed to come out in 1 month, and all I've seen are the same two levels, which is all about jumping and running. There better be more than jumping and runing, otherwise I don't see the motivation behind that game.

Anyone played Area 51 or Full Spectrum Warrior?
Morgoth replied to mkreku's topic in Computer and Console
I didn't know Midway also released Rise & Fall for free. That's an RTS set in ancient times, developed from Stainless Steel (Empire Earth). I'm gonna download that one... -
Regenerating health?
Morgoth replied to Wrath of Dagon's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
But if there would be regeneration we wouldn't need any healing potions or healing spells in AP anymore. -

Well, both games are crap so I wouldn't even bother with these even if they're for free. -
What's up with games that don't feature subtitles?
Morgoth replied to Matthew Rorie's topic in Computer and Console
That's a very tasteless thing to say. You know that many lyrics, literature, thesis and scientific work are written in German? Even the English speaking world uses occasianally some German words without even knowing, how many Swedish (or Estonian) expressions have succeeded in the international world community? -

Hehe, there isn't even an Austrian nation, so there can't be an Austrian language. Otherwise, you're wrong. Heck, even the Germans confuse their own people from other parts as foreigners. At least we aren't that dumb as our northern neighbor, we still know who's who. -

You sure this is Swedish? Sounds more like Bosnian, but I could be wrong. At any rate, it sounds awful. -
Long rant on RPGs and comments on Obsidian
Morgoth replied to RPGmasterBoo's topic in Obsidian General
It's still the overall experience that matters. BG2 may have "worse" role-playing than ME, but it's still the better and more enjoyable game, thus superior. Here's my personal Bio list (1st = best, last = worst) BG2 Hotu Kotor NWN ME Jade Emire BG1 SoU So I don't care about "better role-playing" since every supposed choice has been a weak fake anyway. -
"James Ohlen, creative director, BioWare Austin:And we can talk about the high-level goals: We basically want to bring what BioWare's famous for to the online space, and one of the things BioWare's famous for is storytelling ... and it's something that pretty well doesn't exist in the online space right now. Most "storytelling" in MMORPGs is just FedEx quests -- you know, you have to go get some eggs -- and it's presented in a format that's just a bunch of text thrown at you in paragraph for ... and that's not so exciting. We want to bring a level of storytelling that's equal to the single-player box games that BioWare has done. I think we can do that. One of the big challenges will be making our storytelling work in an environment that has multiple players." Sounds exciting. I'm curious whether they'll nail that issue down. And how.

As I said in a previous post, a setting can help to attract people, but you still need to make a killer game to be succesful in the MMO market. Star Wars Galaxies had the Star Wars bonus, but ultimately failed because it was a crap game. It's really simple.

The one is from Bioware, the other sucked.

I think explaining that stuff should be the least problem for the designers. I mean you're a super-duper-augumentated "mutant", so it's like you're a super-hero from a Comic. I just hope they don't go too far with that, because one thing that DX really made so great was that it still stood on both feed on the realism-rug, so to speak.
-
I don't know about you, but back then when I first played DX I was often shot to a cripple, having no Bioenenergy or health packs left, so I just pulled through. It was stimulating, to say at least. Having aotogenerating just completely removes this sort of situation. On the other side, I can understand that it's more likeable by people because it isn't so frustrating. Hell, even I must admit playing Crysis without the autohealing would have drove me nuts.
-
I'm even suprised that the game gets a sequel. I mean a played it too and found it intriguing (even though I never could finish it), but I heard sales wise the game bombed completely.

Having regeneration, I suppose the action will be more twitchy and game-y. No preperations or study of the scene needed when engaging battle. You just hop in, kill stuff, then hide behind a cradle (!) to charge health again, and repeat the process. Unlike when you're low on health and only have one medpack left, this sort of forces you to plan your strategy more carefully.

Neverwinter Nights 2: Storm of Zehir Discussion
Morgoth replied to CoM_Solaufein's topic in Computer and Console
I'd actually like to know a bit more about the team behind SoZ. Who's the (Lead) writer/designers, and who's the Art director? -
Absolutely. I totally hate games played in First-person view on a console. I'd totally feel helpless there when a mutated rat jumps at me and I always struggle with these stupid controller sticks.
-
unless you've got a state of the art PC with the latest graphic card, it's safe to say that FO3 will almost certainly work better on a console. I doubt F3 will be such a demanding beast on the PC. We're not talking about some Crysis here. The leading platform was the 360, and the PC version will just be the same with some higher res textures. Experience shows that games made mainly for the 360 tend to run very smoothly on "good" PCs.

Look, I don't know how large the KOTOR fanbase is, but it's certainly not WOW like size. Just let's be realistic. And being a Star Wars game alone doesn't mean nothing. Star Wars Galaxies, after all, was an utter failure. But as I said, Bioware knows how to make successful and enjoyable games, so that should be the main driving factor why people should get excited. Star Wars + Kotor just means people get easier attention to it, and don't need to be convinced about a new setting etc. Well, I am also assuming that BioWare makes the game compelling for those who like MMOs and will thus attract more of the Star Wars fanbase than the KOTOR titles did... Don't get me wrong - I am not saying it will reach WoW style levels of popularity, but it is the only current franchise that I can even imagine doing that. I think it has always been Bioware's mantra to "expand our fanbase, and explore new possibilities etc. bla bla", you know the typical Ray Muzyka optimist there. And that's exactly what they're gonna do: Please existing MMO players (WoW and WAr alike), but at the same time add something new so that MMO-tired people feel the urge to try it out. It has always been that way. Not that I'm personally liking this approach, as I think if Bio would concentrate on hardcore PC RPGs, they'd actually reveil their full potential again (BGs, NWNs). But hey, I'm not the one to make demands. I'm just a Bio slave who buys all their games at day one. And yeah, Star Wars/Kotor will definitively help to get more people attracted, but Bio can't rely on that alone. They also have to make a killer game to compete with WoW.
-
Well I'm not trying to tell you what you should do, but if I were you, I'd just wait till you get your computer, and then enjoy Fallout 3 as it is meant to be played. Smoothly and with graphics fully turned up!

I'm surely not the nerd-type MMO gamer who levels to lvl 70 (what a waste of time), but I occassionaly enjoy some playtime here and there (especially WAR), so if Bioware manages to improve an existing formula or even completely re-architects this genre, the better. KOTOR 3, that's something I'd even more look forward to. But you can't have everything at once...
