The quality of combat in Bloodlines and other games
Moatilliatta replied to Dark_Raven's topic in Computer and Console
KOTOR had kill monster quests too, it might not have said so directly (can't remember to be honest) but you usually had to do it to complete some crappy fetch quest. The Bastila quest as far as I remember is just wandering over to her crashed pod and then later finding out that she is being offered to the winner of the race and then actually "win" her. Did I miss something? How is that quest even remotely better? Besides being longer. -

I'm not gonna find quests that show why any of them is superiour to the other as I wasn't the one stating opinions as facts. If you want to be anything but random noise then start coming up with arguments. Just naming quests aren't arguments. -

Of KOTOR quests being vastly superiour to ME obviously. -

Examples then? Or are you actually gonna conform to Gromnirs Hare Krishna comparison? -

Opinions are fun aren't they. -
Low standards? I think Palin could potentially be a crappy choice since she doesn't seem very experienced. I'm officially in the euro-dude for Obama camp now even if his rethoric is scary sometimes.

@WoD That's the one that got posted in the Aliens forum, right? Already read it. Do you realize that the ME quote says very little except games (in general not just failbox ones) have technical considerations? -

Ahh, it is the same central philosophies you hear MCA and other OE folk spout out nowadays. You know, "choices and consequences bla bla bla choices and consequences bla bla interesting writing bla choices and consequences". The main difference is that Vince as kind of freelance guy makes these looong analyzes and arguments for his view. I'd guess you could summarize it as putting C&C as N. 1 Governing factor in RPG designing Wait a second. Isn't Dweller supposed to be cool and edgy? How can he be that if he is essentially an independent OE? Also, last I checked MCA was some what more complex than that. @Gromnir Are those the ones that smother you in pamphlets if you accidentally look in their direction? -

@Xard Whoa no! All I want is a few sentences summarizing what VD believes an RPG makes. If I were interested enough that I would read interviews then I would have done so already. @WoD I've only skimmed it but it doesn't really tell me anything but multiple choice with at least one non-combat choice. -

So could one of you dweller followers recite his mantras? I don't know them. -
WELCOME :D Fixed.

Most large mods tend to include an AI enhancement mod of some kind. I like Deus Lo Vult (DLV) with a few tweaks to remove the absolutely annoying design decisions of making just about everything cost $texas.
-
Bad? One of them is in a genre with three series so the chance of missing a game is close to nil. The other is effectively dead. [insert crying baby jesus.] Are you one of the people around here that haven't played Company of Heroes yet? Mount and Blade has zero magic, so I guess that could be of use.

Sure, if you're a singleplayer ingrate. And romances have been confirmed. I mean, what would we do without our romance fix. -

Most people here have indeed enjoyed most if not all Bioware games. The problem is that they aren't as good as most people want. The problem with the JE combat was that it quickly boiled down to switching back and forth between two styles in nearly endless drudgery. And yeah go play Bloodlines unless you have a massive Vampire phobia. Edit: Or perhaps I should say that Bio games aren't the way most people here want them to be. Good is in the eyes of the beholder. -
@Muso How do you define down to earth games? I can't for the life of me remember games that aren't EXTREME!!!11! in some manner or another. The sims?
-
@Muso N? I do remember the NotPorn and NotPron (or something like that) games and they were quite fun until you had to hunt othere forums for the answer to clues because it became unreasonable.

Jonny Ebbert talks Tyranids in DoW2. So why is it not 2009 yet? -
Some of the physics based ones are quite a lot of fun for a few hours. The rest though are usually pale imitations of actual games.

I didn't even know that there were disguises in the locker rooms. Goes to show just how sandbox that game is. -
Let me guess you we're stumped by the first puzzle? Or was it the lack of co-op multiplayer?

@Xard and somewhat Pidesco TOEE and bloodlines. What? Bloodlines has crappy combat? Try saying that while playing NWN2, KOTOR2, Mass Effect or Jade Empire. Arcanum had incredibly bad combat but it wasn't much worse than the stuff that I had to go through in NWN2 which is the same stuff that led to me not being able to complete either of those games out of sheer boredom. @Tigranes I'm conflating peoples opinions on purpose since I'm not going to respond to every single issue that people have with a single trailer that was near universally derided. The purpose of my post was to try and get people to move past that initial trailer and actually interest themselves for all the actually pomising things about this game instead of laming themselves on a single trailer where they happen to take issue with it being generally dark-ish (not som much dark but just darker) fantasy instead of Morrowind, Arcanum, Moor****, Rice, Diablo, Sandman, Ravenloft or whatever else these people find innovative or interesting enough for them to interest themselves in. All I'm asking is that people remember that it is Bioware and remember that Bioware is generic (Bioware comes in all shapes and sizes so long as it is generic) Bioware lives and breathe the stuff that everybody knows and then they move out from there. You've made me a bit interested though, what was it that you believed DA was before the trailer and how did it necesarily conflict with what was in the trailer? -
That was actually quite good and covered just about all parts of the game. I do think he missed the part about the story being more of a carrier which uses metaphors to explain a general idea and not so much a geek out on forums to show your mastery at cracking references tory. We all do if you haven't bought Braid yet.
