You had one job developers... Hehe, seriously though. Hope it can come this week.

And there is, as always, a difference between posting constructive criticism or posting one thread in which you explain why you're unhappy, and slinging crap with every post you make. You can make a point that you're unhappy with a product without stinking an entire forum up. Especially the developer's own forums. There are plenty of forums more appropiate to just venting your crap out.

Was dynamic weather a thing?
Starwars replied to Starwars's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Yep, that's how I understand it. Areas have a "set weather". I'm glad there *is* some weather in the game but yeah, I will miss the random rain showers in BG. -
When the Obsidian guys wake up, they should instantly see that we want a NEW UPDATE YEAAAAAH!
-
I would definitely welcome an update wednesday or thursday!

I think the music was still slightly bugged (in the last backer beta, it only plays sometimes) but you can hear it in some areas. But the volume is still so low it's hard to get a sense of anything. I wonder how much of the soundtrack will be with live performers.

I think nostalgia speaks regarding a lot of music of older games. Associating the music with a very positive gaming experience. Not to say that the soundtracks were bad by any means of course. But there's a lot of good soundtracks today as well (The Banner Saga as an example is better than most gaming soundtracks I've ever heard), and, if they had been released back in the day for "insert your favorite game here", they would've been as well thought of as anything. While I'm not a fan of the backer beta combat music (though, like I've said before in this thread, I tend to not like most combat music), I think a few years from now we'll see if the PoE music stands out. It has a much more difficult job than the IE games music because the expectations are waaaaaay high now and people will view it with very critical eyes whereas the soundtracks back in the IE days struck most people by surprise.

Heya !

I want to not care about you... But I find myself forced to by some unseen power! -
I don't know if this has been mentioned but I was just looking at the pre-order tiers on the STEAM page and the details of the downloadable soundtrack: "This soundtrack contains many of the game's music tracks performed by a live orchestra. Contains at least 17 tracks in MP3 and FLAC format." So it appears that there will be at least some tracks performed by an orchestra.

Was dynamic weather a thing?
Starwars replied to Starwars's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Yeah, mainly wondering if there's a chance of rain in certain areas or if it's always set for that area. Gilded Vale was in both the recent stream with Josh and the previous one with Jessie Cox and it was raining in both of them. So I'm kinda worried that each zone has "set" weather. Each time I went to Stormwall Gorge in the backer beta, it has been raining ever since that was "introduced". And now that I look closer at the recent stream, there is actually an effect of rain pouring down from the roofs on the houses. I'm not opposed to some areas having set weather depending on what the mood and such is, but that rain starting up in BG has always been one of those huge nostalgia moments for me. Would've loved to see it again. -
Number of portraits?
Starwars replied to Heijoushin's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I would welcome screen-scap portraits also ala Wasteland 2. -
Figured I might as well get some preemptive nagging in now.

Soooo, new week... new update!

I can't recall if this was actually mentioned anywhere, but was there ever mention of dynamic weather? Like how rain could start up in Baldur's Gate. I just loved the atmosphere that created? I know some areas have weather but does it change? EDIT: Wow, just noticed I basically asked the same question back in April last year. No straight answer then though...

Little questions
Starwars replied to DarkWanderer's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Good questions, and I don't think most of them have been answered! The only one I think has been mentioned is that companions can leave if you disagree on something big. That's the only one I can remember. -
Crickets of Eternity
Starwars replied to ryukenden's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
In agreement there. I personally would want to turn combat barks off entirely pretty quickly, turning down voiceacting a bit, turning down FX and keeping ambience and music fairly high. In an ideal world. -
Crickets of Eternity
Starwars replied to ryukenden's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I agree, it's something I always tweaked in BGs and I know the barks and combat sounds especially will drive me bonkers in this. It's disappointing. -
Not much to add here, pretty much agree with all that. Except that I think the combat is pretty fun even if I still have the damndest problem with the visuals of it. I think I especially have to agree with the city areas feeling a bit sterile though. I'm sure the sound will help a lot but yeah, some areas (I mean within the area itself, the streets and so forth) just look too big considering that there's not a lot going on in them. It feels a bit empty. Gives me a feeling of Neverwinter from NWN2 or Imperial City in Oblivion which is, frankly, something that would be really disappointing to have in this. IE cities were always some of the best RPG cities (probably the best) in terms of bustle and feel. Hopefully the mega-dungeon will get more interesting further down. I think they probably have to pace it a bit, having it more mundane at the top to have an "arc" through all the levels. It felt like Josh was playing through it a bit faster than I would, maybe due to it being a stream. The game really looked too easy for Hard though. I only tried out the current BB on Normal but Josh seemed to have little-to-no problems even while doing some pretty big mistakes and while not really using abilities to their fullest. Of course, it depends on what levels everything is vs the party level as well so... I loved that the companions seemed pretty talkative. And they seem pretty interesting. The game looks really beautiful all in all. Can't wait, only two months now. Hard to believe!

Crickets of Eternity
Starwars replied to ryukenden's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I asked Brandon about it and unfortunately the sliders are unlikely to be implemented for this release. Maybe in a patch or expansion.
