Probably a good move for Freeman too. Not sure why the Browns passed - Hoyer, Campbell and Weeden combined only count 3 or 4 million against the salary cap. Schaub is a train-wreck. Is it three or four games in a row with a pick six? But Texans have almost 12 million $ cap hit at QB already.
-
I didn't realise that. So that's what desperate looks like. LOL 11.4 million$ for the entire year (according to ESPN) and he's a free agent at the end of the season.
-
Freeman signs with the Vikings for 3$ million. Thought he might go with Oakland or Buffalo or even the Browns with Hoyer down. That 3$ mil is on top of his signing bonus and salary from the Bucs.

Seriously, if I want my portfolio to be all buggered up I'll take it to GoldmanSachs and have it done by professionals.

48-48 - 1000 yds combined total offense just crazy .....

Somebody forgot to tell the Cowboys to mail it in. Dallas 48 - Denver 41 with 7+ minutes left. WOW!

Saints 26 Bears 18 Holy crap! Indy 34 Seattle 28 Colts knock Seahawks from ranks of the unbeaten! And the Giants still suck .......

If the king is the only piece that can move, and it has no safe avenue of escape (ie it has no legal move), then only two situations exist: (1) the king is not currently in check it is a stalemate and is considered a draw, not a win; or (2) the king is under check (and no safe avenue of escape exists) in which case it is checkmate. If all the other pieces taken or locked with no possible move, there are no other variations possible (assuming it is the king's turn to move). I have no clue where the term Patt comes from - I couldn't find it any chess glossary. pat is a stalemate, and in tournament play that's considered to be more than a draw, less than win, and is scored accordingly Do you have a link? I'm not doubting you but I've never heard of any international scoring system that differentiated scoring between types of draws. Ever. I would like to see where it's been used. Laws of Chess of the World Chess Federation (FIDE) recognizes five known situations for draws and score all draws equally (rule 11.1). The only non-standard scoring systems (besides the traditional 1/0.5/0 and the Bilbao 3/1/0) that I am aware of is the Ballard anti-draw points system (BAPS) which scores as follows: Black Wins: 3 Points White Wins: 2 Points Draws: 1 point for Black, 0 points for White Losses: 0 Points BAPS wasn't used extensively. Thanks for the info on the origin of the word. PS. If you want to follow up on this in a pm that's fine. We're getting way outside the thread topic.

Tough way to lose. 1-0 with your bullpen blowing the game? Ouch.

And here's what really stings ... not only did Texas lose him in free agency, but we traded Chris Davis to get him in the first place! If that just doesn't suck balls ....... Which is why every year around trade deadline, I keep chanting .. "Jon Daniels ... step away from the farm system" Does the douchebag listen? NOOOOOOOO.

Maybe I'm not wording myself right, I am not critizing DA:O or saying that they didn't do intrigue well. It is just that it was small pockets in between what the bulk of the game is building an army. Even the Witcher 2 who at the core of its story had political intrigue didn't deal directly with it but rather put the protagonist doing what they do best which is hunting monsters. So far I haven't seen a game in which implements political intrigue as a core mechanic vital to the progress of the story. Fair enough. I agree that DAO didn't use it as a core mechanic, and I haven't finished Witcher 2 yet so I can't judge. -
LOL. I just poured a second glass of red wine, so have another one, No pitcher's duel tonight - Rays are starting to tag Lackey, he might last six - maybe. Hey Lefered ... sabremetrics question for you. Rumours are that Texas might be making a play on McCann (Atlanta) with an eye to keeping soto and dumping AJP. Good move?

I can not believe that Volo is dissin' dwarves .......... I'm going to have a stroke any second!
-
Price was a beast the three times he pitched at Fenway this year and Lackey has great home splits (not so much on the road). Should be a good game.

hmm no not ecactly they did actuly manage to make intruieq in games like dragon age origen If you're referring to the brief moments when you're dealing with the trial of Loghain, that was too short to be of any relevance. I don't think there are that many game that deal with political intrigue, much less that do it well. It just seems like a subject which requires the entire story to be melded around it. Really? I thought the entire backstory of Loghain etc. was one of the better parts of the game especially when you add Anora to the mix. Oh well, no biggie. Playing a dwarven noble gives you an entire backstory with a lot of political intrigue. In fact, it puts the entire Orzammar situation in an entire new light. -
Spells / abilities and their casting time
kgambit replied to agris's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
That was supposed to be a video of the improved whirlwind attack, my bad. Yes an epic level spell is a much better move than a 6th level attack. That wasn't the point. The point was that the comparison showed a fairly low level fighter ability versus a very high level casting ability with a relatively small casting differential. If the attack sequence had involved the improved whirlwind attack the duration difference would have been significantly less. The whole purpose was to dispel the misconception that fighter attack sequences should be significantly shorter and could not scale appropriately to magic casting times. That was all. So 2 seconds for a level 6 Whirlwind attack versus 5 seconds for an epic level spell cast by a level 21+ mage demonstrates that point nicely I think. It's not a perfect comparison, but close enough to suit me since I can extrapolate an improved whirlwind attack into the 4 or 5 second range easily. . I'll concede all the points about DnD lore because they are immaterial to the issue of casting times. Interesting though. -
Yum those Chicken Breasts sound delicious, if I come over tomorrow night can I join you for dinner? Chicken got delayed until Sunday (we were missing the apple cider) so sure ... come on over

Spells / abilities and their casting time

Good comparison. I think some of the claims about massive casting times for high level spells are grossly overstated, but that's just my opinion. High level attack abilities / sequences can be every bit as time consuming as spell casting. Two videos: First, a prolonged attack ability for a fighter - a whirlwind attack (try to imagine the longer sequence required for improved whirlwind attack): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3PKgJs5e9u0 and next a high level spell cast by a mage http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pqEC0m-EAn0 seems like the whirlwind attack actually might take a bit longer to fully implement .... -
When Fernando Rodney is your "go to" guy you're pretty well screwed from the start. Sox are just putting a big time ass-whipping on the Rays.

Sadly Hoyer's done for the year - torn ACL. Not sure if it's an upgrade or stopgap, but the Browns can pick up Freeman for nothing now. They should definitely scoop up Freeman. A bag of rocks soaked in oil and lit on fire would be an upgrade over Weeden. I think Freeman can still be a decent QB, he just needs a change of scenery in the worst way. Well Cleveland certainly qualifies in that regard .......

I didn't watch - what did Myers do (or not do)? It looks from the box score that Matt Moore simplyimploded in the 4th and Maddon left him in for the 5th as well. Kind of reminded me of AJ Burnett yesterday for Pittsburgh - that was just brutal. The box score doesn't show any errors (inexplicably) but the Rays defense made several colossal mistakes in the 4th inning. At that point in the game the Rays were up 2-0 on 2 solo HRs. Moore was cruising up to the 4th. Laser Show was on 1st when Papi hit a deep fly ball, Myers called for it, then, for whatever reason, stepped forward and the ball dropped behind him on the warning track for a double (I'm still not sure how that wasn't scored an error). The moment that happened, I knew right there that the Sawx were going to win that game. You can get away with mistakes like that in the regular season, but in the playoffs they will kill you. Next up Napoli popped out. Following that was another double that drove in 2. Moore got another out, then a grounder that should have ended the inning, but Moore was slow to cover first and the runner (Stephen Drew, I think) was safe, Johnny Gomes scored on the play. That broke Moore's back and the floodgates opened. There was another double in the inning that was misplayed that allowed an extra run to score. Sawx went up 5-2 and Lester went into I'm Got This, I'm Shutting Them Down Mode. When I hit the cbs sports site, it was right after Ortiz's double and the flood gates were about to open ......but there was no indication that Myers misplayed the fly. Must have lost it in the lights .... oh wait, day game ..... LOL GD isn't going to be happy. Lester just got pulled in the 8th but Sox have cushy 6 run league.
