Roger Maris was 6'0" 197 pounds. That's not scrawny. Aaron was 6'0" and 180. Before he starting cheating juicing, Barry Bonds was 6'2" 185. Then he pumped up to 228 pounds the year he hit 73 hrs (Too many Tastee Kreme donuts? I think not.) Experts have long agree that steroids can increase both muscle and strength. Studies have shown that the increased muscle mass and strength could boost HR production by a significant amount. (Roger Tobin of Tufts University calculated that a 10% increase in muscle mass would translate to ~3.8%* more bat speed and ~3% more ball speed after impact. That translates to ~ 16.5 feet of travel distance and increases a 0.1 HRBiP to 0.149 - an increase of nearly 50%. Physics don't lie.) Even if you argue that the only effect of steroids was to prolong Bonds' career that still taints his career records as it allowed him to perform at a high level longer than he would have if he hadn't cheated juiced. (In fairness, the ridiculously short right field porchs for both Maris and Bonds didn't hurt. 296' and 309' respectively.) Bonds juiced and you're fooling yourself if you (a) think he didn't and (b) think it had zero effect on his career. Color it any you want, Bonds cheated. He didn't legitimately break Aaron's or Maris' records. No Hall of Fame for you. *Tobin originally calculated 5% more bat speed but later revised it to 3.8% with the subsequent travel distance increase dropping from 4% to 3%. Tobin's conclusions were reviewed by Alan M Nathan, at the University of Illinois who concurred with Tobin's results. http://baseball.physics.illinois.edu/BRJ-Steroids-v3.pdf

Blacklist is amazing. Seasons 1 and 2 were simply outstanding, can't wait for the release of season 3. The Following was cancelled after season 3 (although there are rumours of it being picked up by Netflix or someone else). -
What cash payments were made to Quinn? Provide links or it didn't happen, its very unethical to make baseless and defamatory accusations Nonek...I'm surprised I have to tell you this? http://blogjob.com/oneangrygamer/2015/04/kotaku-writer-paid-800-to-dev-he-was-sleeping-with-without-disclosure/ Grayson confirmed that the payment took place Was this not a personal matter? Is this related in anyway to the game Depression Quest that Quinn created? In the article it says "Grayson did confirm the payment, but also noted that it had nothing to do with Kotaku and was a separate matter relating to the brief time when he and Quinn were together " How is paying someone money that you dated proof of unethical behavior? This is surly a private that has been explained and is not related to Grayson's time as a gaming journalist so I don't see how this relevant ? You asked for proof the payments were made. I provided that. How you choose to interpret that information and the circumstances around it is entirely up to you.

How long of a suspension do you think Brady gets in addition to the fines and/or loss of draft picks they hit the team with?

There are two names on the patch, Kyle's and Chad Littlefield. Littlefield never served in the military but was a close friend of Kyle's. Both were active in helping veterans with PTSD issues. So maybe the patch is simply a tribute to their work with vets. IDK

I'm sure some people do think Chicago is now the favorite. I've said twice now that I've picked Cleveland to be in the finals - both before and after Love's injury. This makes it three times. The Cadavers job is tougher without Love. FACT. Taking a cue from Shady, whether I think Cleveland will win is a totally different question than if I want them to win.

Bruce, don't you see an inherent contradiction of your stance on this issue and your previous statements regarding censorship and the use / threat of violence? For example, this quote from another thread .... Why is this instance different? I am genuinely curious as to why you think this situation is unique.

You mean the grand total of 3 times they've met? Twice when Lebron played for Miami and once when Lebron was in Cleveland. The Heat / Cavaliers were always the consensus favorite in those series. Not once were the Bulls favored. "Lebron aside"? Seriously? That's akin to saying Cleveland is a better team than GS without Seth Curry except Seth Curry is still healthy, Do I really need to point out what an absurdly silly comparison that is? Remember that I predicted that the Eastern conference finals would be Cleveland vs Atlanta. Wondering whether Cleveland can still beat Chicago without Kevin Love (out for the playoffs ) OR without JR Smirth (Suspended for a flagrant for the frist two games) is hardly the same as saying that Chicago is now the favorite. So just to soothe your raging butthurt, I think Cleveland is still the favorite - but their margin for error got a LOT smaller. Edit: Fwiw, the talking head "experts" still favor the Cavs in a 7 game series (if you exclude the predictions made before Kevin Love was lost for the playoffs) by about a 2-1 margin. And Vegas still has the Cavs as favorites.

Clipper versus Spurs game 7 was one of the best playoff games I've seen. Game tied with 9 secs to go in a game 7 with 40 something lead changes and ties? What an awesome game. It will be interesting to see if the Cavs can beat the Bulls without Love. Yeah yeah Volo they still have LeBron but he can't win without some help and his supporting cast just got a lot weaker.

No, that is BS. There was a ticket offered for sale on Stub Hub for just a hair over 350K$ and it didn't sell. Tito Ortiz "teased" about paying over 250K$ for tickets and then recanted. The highest recorded ticket price was considerably less (see below). The live gate was announced at 74 mil$ for 17,000 seats. Do the math. That puts the avg price paid at just over 4000$ for a full house and less than 7000$ for 2/3 occupancy. And by all accounts it was a packed house. More than 30 tickets sold early Friday on StubHub, as of 9:45 a.m. ET, for an average price of $3,899. That's compared to 156 tickets that sold for an average of about $800 more on Thursday ($4,693). Perhaps the most troubling sign for those selling tickets is that 10 tickets sold for less than the investment in the ticket, after fees. "The median price at secondary ticket marketplace, SeatGeek, reached a peak of $13,152 on April 24, a day after tickets officially went on sale for the much-anticipated bout. They are down 52% to $6,345 as of today for the nearly 945 tickets still available on the site (see chart below). It is the same story for the cheapest tickets at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. The get-in price peaked at $6,332 on April 21, but has dropped every day since then to a low of $2,586 as of today." from Forbes Only 500 or so tickets were made available to the public via Ticketmaster . They were priced at $1,500, $2,500, $3,500, $5,000 and $7,500. There are also $10,000 "ringside tickets", but they were not part of the public sale. According to Bob Arum and Leonard Ellerbe, there were no comp tickets but Bob Arum allegedly bought and gave one ticket to Ronda Roussey. According to Stub Hub, the range of ticket prices was from $2,959 to $40,955 with the "get in price" dropping below 3000$ on Thursday. At that time the average price paid was $6,268 with ~1000 tickets still remaining just at stub hub and prices declined right up to the fight. Here was the pricing breakdown: Ticket price / Number of tickets $10,000 / 1,100** $7,500 / 2,500 $5,000 / 2,500 $3,500 / 4,000 $2,500 / 2,500 $1,500 / 2,500* **Were not offered to the public *Only 500 seats at 1500$ were offered to the public.

Laughing all the way to the bank ..... kgambit lets be honest for a second....when you see how much money Mayweather makes don't you think " I wish I had become a professional boxer instead of my current career " ? No because I suck at boxing and there's no way I would get into a ring with a trained professional boxer to take a pounding. Besides my wife would hate it if this pretty face got all disfigured. And my RL job is quite lucrative thank you very much. Actually my comment was aimed more at the suckers who actually BOUGHT the PPV and watched the fight. Or the idiots who paid 20k$ to 40k$ per ticket for ringside seats. My hats off to the hype machine. LOL Edit: The current record for highest-grossing pay-per-view fight involved Mayweather and Saul "Canelo" Alvarez in 2013 with around $150 million. This fight destroys that. Well played.

My sister is part of a long term study group here with a big questionnaire/ interview every seven years and that study* found the rates to be almost identical; though one from a second city did find that women were considerably more likely to hit their partner or children than a man was. Having said that, the rates found were significantly different (70% for the first vs ~30% for women and just over 20% for men in the second one) so there's clearly a big variation in classification- one included verbal 'violence' and the other didn't, IIRC. *Pretty sure the relevant paper is this one though I'm not buying the article to confirm, it's certainly based on the right study group at least and is consistent with what I remember of it. Just to clarify, the study I referenced wasn't outrageously skewed to the male victim side - but it was tilted in that direction.
-
That sounds like you've already made up your mind Bruce. Well this will probably be ignored then but I know of several recent studies that show Male victims of abuse outnumber female victims. One is the 2011 joint study by the CDC and Justice department. There has been a significant change in the demographics of abuse victims over the last 10 to 20 years. Female (victim) abuse rates have been dropping while male abuse rates have been steady. You might have been right 20 years ago or even 10 but not today.

You know it's always the way ...... Just got the landscaping crew started. They're planting two new Green Giant Thujas to finish the privacy hedge and then they're going to spread 16 cubic yards of mulch. While they are doing that we're planting some more perennials. Nice day for working outside - 71 degrees at 2pm with a nice breeze.
