Answering Community Questions on the Obsidian Blog
-Obsidian's interesting to me in that they've done a wide variety of types of RPGs. KOTOR 2 and Neverwinter Nights 2 were the more traditional party based affairs. Alpha Protocol was a solo cinematic style. New Vegas is open world and sandbox. Dungeon Siege 3 was more hack and slash. Does each style of RPG provide a unique challenge in comparison? If so, what new challenges did Dungeon Siege 3 present? -When will I get to eat another god?

The Longest Journey didn't interest you? Only because you already own it, right?

The funny things thread part 3
Maybe some of you guys knew about this, but I didn't. http://literallyunbelievable.org/ It's a site that lists facebook postings where people took The Onion seriously. Do not visit if you're allergic to ellipses abuse.

Deus Ex 3
I'm checking the sarifindustries.com and occasionally something is popping up in the top right. Is it new? Talks about "security breach detected."

Deus Ex 3
The required drug angle is new (as far as I know). Wonder how much of that video will turn out to be a Purity First lie and how much of it will be accurate, but hidden from the perspective of a Sarif employee like Jensen. Or maybe the "drug" is just what they use to replace power cells.

Deus Ex 3
Impressive. Most impressive.

What are you playing now?
Not quite. It's based on some WETA steampunk character, Dr. Grordborts. http://www.teamfortress.com/grordborts/ WETA's site for him: http://www.drgrordborts.com/dr-grordbort-s...meets-violence/

DLC or expansions
Can we get back to discussing "DLC or expansions" and not each other, pretty please?

Team Fortress 2 got an interesting update last night. Some WETA designed models introduced a couple of ray guns to the Soldier. Pew pew.

RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS THREAD!
On reflection, an only moderately worn dystopia with light anachronisms is disturbingly underdone.

DLC or expansions
I think I would disagree with you there. New characters seem the kind of stuff a DLC could be good for, especially if they simply work on the base of a scratched character. What I could really see in an expansion is more powers by stance though, along with a follow-up on the story and new characters. But DLC characters wouldn't fit into the story very well. Even if it was a cut character, unless it was cut very late. You'd have to get all the voice actors back in the studio for the more complex interactions, as well. Think about a character as fully integrated as Anjali, who has the entire plot thread of the Archons backing her up and is readily discussed by the others.

DLC or expansions
I'd prefer expansions. I could see DLC coming out and would likely enjoy it, but my primary interest is in seeing new characters representing different playstyles and archetypes. I think expansions would fit into that better than DLC would.

new scientific discoveries
Via Slashdot: Neanderthal Genes Found In All Non-African Populations So, apparently Sapiens and Neanderthalensis did some cross-breeding. But it's interesting to me that neanderthals were close enough to us for breeding and production of viable offspring. Apparently it had been known that they bred (this is from 09), but it wasn't clear how widespread it was.

Just because you have all the equipment, it does not mean you are prepared. The meteor landed two days journey to the west. I left home with my axe, my pick, some extra dirt to build a shelter, and torches for light. But night itself is the greatest danger. It fell when I was in the middle of the corruption. Surrounded by thorns, flying one-eyed monstrosities, and deep chasms in black rock. If I were to continue, I would have fallen. I bunkered down, created a temporary shelter in the middle of that evil place and waited for light. Anyway, more Terraria. It gets a cool sort of survival element if night falls when you're in the corruption. I kind of wish there was an RPG that evoked that kind of thing. Not wanting to be caught outside in the dark in particular areas.

There could always be another collapse! Out of which rises the casual/microtran empire! Which is terrible in a couple ways. Not the least of which are all those people who lose their jobs.

That picture made me interested. Then I read that they use cards to move them around and stuff. Which made it sound less interesting. And the MMO comparison.

News Int. Inc. hack phone of missing (dead girl)
Anyone around here watch Fox News? I'm curious as to your opinion of their coverage on the matter. I've read a few criticisms of them, such as claiming they're ignoring it, defending Murdoch, or changing the subject. But most of that I'm hearing from outlets that have been vocal against Fox News for a while. I'm hoping to get some closer to objective opinions.

I think the best theory so far is that the developers hit puberty My initial thought was that they were trying to follow God of War. But no, God of War hadn't released yet. The 90s were over, so that's not it either. I guess there's just a constant pool of darker and edgier in culture that we'll always see drawn from. Anyway, just watched the PoP 2008 trailer and made myself sad. I don't think Montreal will ever continue it.
