  1. From what I hear in the streaming, Xoti and Serafen actually sounds quite different comparing to their other characters。 No need to get disappointed right now, since we don't know how most of them sounds like at the moment.
  2. ... What? It's in their voice actor announcement post, Aloth now has a very obvious scar on his forehead.
  3. So they changed some of the companion's portrait, that's the reason why they hide it from the beta, or is that all? Also now Aloth has a scar on his forhead, which is very interesting to say the least.
  4. One of the potential problem when you returning to level 1 and the level cap keep increasing every game is that you will have to level much faster comparing to the previous game so that you has a chance to experience all the high level stuff they added. So in the end it could become like WoW after all those expansions, where you level up so fast it didn't really feel like you are becoming stronger or achieved something. Not saying it's gonna be the same in PoE franchise, but it could be a problem.
  5. Vox Machina voices and portraits? And even Gilmore? They are way more devoted into this collaboration than I expected. Now I'm really looking forward to the next backer update. Anyway Vox Machina is made up by 8 people(one of them, who plays a dragonborn leave the show early and probably won't be in Deadfire 2): three half elves, one humans, one goliath and two gnomes. http://versusevil.com/games/pillars-of-eternity-ii-deadfire_c-r/?age-verified=63d4ea3d8c They have showed the Vox Machina portrait here(being covered by mosaics), if you konw the show you can already tell which is which.
  6. I'm sure some one has suggested this before but having some training dummies in the game where you test your build and weapons would be really helpful. Or maybe an arena where you can go in there and fight some NPCs to test your team as a "training session". I know it's kind late to add new features into the game, but there is always the expansion.
  7. So I still don't get it. Have those guys done their VO work for POE2 already and we just got this announcement now or is this going to be some kind of super rushed job in a few weeks before release? If it's the latter I have a sudden fear of yet another imminent postponement coming. I imagine they've done all of their voice work, or have done almost all of them. We get the announcement right now because it's a marketing strategy.
  8. I kind have the same feeling, but that's probably because the colour is more bright comparing to PoE 1. And the companions seems more relax and happy comparing to the first game, expecially Tekēhu.
  9. Did a quick check on Critical Role's twitter, only Liam retweet the Tekēhu voice actor tweet, and only the Tekēhu tweet.. It could mean nothing though. Also all the characters they teasing with is male, which begs the question: are they going to hire Laura Bailey and Ashley Johnson, just to let them doing some minor characters? That would be quite a waste of talent.
  10. Now they are making me think the Critical Role crew are gonna be the voice of all the 6(minus Pallegina) companions and 4 sidekicks. I can't say I have a problem with it, but for critical role fans it will definitely feel a little strange. Some of them has voiced more characters than the others, but all of them are pretty decent voice actors(half of them has already in PoE 1).
  11. Unless they change the game into Dragon Age or Mass Effect or NWN 2, otherwise it's always better to have a portrait, simply because 95% of the time we look at our teams from beyond and won't be able to see their faces in a close range.
  12. Thanks to Eothas, your level is back to 1 again. The level cap of Deadfire is 20. I'm staring to imagine the excuse they need to come up with in the third game when your level back to 1 again.
  13. If I wait for a week before I start the game, it would be impossible for me to avoid spoilers. So I'm gonna start playing as soon as it comes out. Also I didn't really worry about bugs that much. I've played several "buggy mess" game before and never has as much bugs as people claim, most recently ME:A, where people claims there are tons of bugs, yet the only one I encounter in my first playthrough is a bug letting me romancing two people at the same time(there is a much worse bug in my NG+ though). Maybe I'm lucky, or I just don't like messing around in the game that much. Also since I didn't plan to rearrange my vacation to play the game all day, I'd have only 3 to 4 hours max per day to play it. So I believe that when I get to half of the main story, there will be several patches to fix some of the bugs already.
  14. I see, if I recall correctly it was rumored that each member would voice multiple characters but this is too far back and where I can not find so do not know, since it's not uncommon for a voice actor to do multiple roles. So naturally that was the encounter in my brain with all this but you're right, 7 is not enough for something like 600 Deadfire in-depth living/beifing npc's. Edit: Breathing They probably will voice multiple characters. In PoE Matt Mercer alone voiced 3 confirmed characters (Eder, Aloth, PC Sinister voiceset) and I am sure he did more - it sounded like he did Skaen priest under Dyrwood. I heard Pallegina actress do the voice for Crucible Knight representative at the animancy hearing. That's how it goes. If they are good actors it isn't even an issue. Voice actors for video games are usually giving one main role and then smaller stuff to fill in their recording session. That is because VO are paid in chunk of 4 hours even if they have less material than that, so their schedule usually include smaller stuff to fill in the rest of the time slot. Good VO are able to do more lines per recording session too. Critical Role team has a lots of range though...well outside of Liam who always sound like Liam because he has a very distinctive voice, but he can do good and bad guys with it. Laura also has a very distinctive voice too, but she can change it (well used to be able to, her recent stuff all sound the same..it's like she's type cast, lol...so his Travis for that matter). For me Travis and Sam are the hardest to recognise. While Matt, who can do a million different voices is quite easy for me to recognise, mainly because as a DM he has done so many different voices as different NPCs, it's like I've already heard lots of his characters before hand. Laura on the other hand, I feel the devs just want her to use a similar voice because people like what she did with some of the characters.
  15. Half of them usually voice lots of tiny roles. Laura Bailey usually voice main characters/important NPCs though. Also, Matt wasn't the only Critical Role member in POE1. Sam and Liam were in it too. Taliesin was in white march as well. When I replay PoE to prepare a save for Deadfire, I instantly recognise Aloth and Eder was voiced by Matt, which I never realised before. Also picking Liam's voice here and there. Critical role ruined my immersion in PoE 1 a little bit. To those who didn't know Critical Role, it's a show where "bunch of nerdy voice actors play dungeons and dragons". It starts out as a home game for more than two years before they start streaming. Obsidian(along with CDPR,Blizzard and several other companies) actually authorise them to use their copyright music, so you can hear music from PoE 1 in the show quite a lot. It's a pretty popular show, so announcing "the whole critical role cast will be in Deadfire" is definitely Obsidian trying to marketing the game, since everyone of them is professional voice actor, it's not really surprising that they will be in Deadfire, half of them was already in PoE 1. And I'd say it's quite a smart move, since lots of the show's fans are DnD and RPG players, aka potitenal customers for Obsidian.
  16. I'd more interested in an enhanced version of PoE 1, like what they did with BG and BG2. Adds more content and maybe do some upgrade with some of the mechanics(less loading would be great). Otherwise I don't see the point of making an remaster version when the game's graphics is perfectly fine. If you ask me, the best way to do it is after they finished the last game of the franchise(whether it's PoE 3 or 300), make a remastered version of all the game.
  17. Comparing to balance issue, I'm more worried about they make some of the classes boring to play. You can have an extremely OP class, but that alone doesn't make it fun.
  18. I don't really mind the balance in a single player game, unless some classes are so weak they can't even beat the game.
  19. On, I think it’s here that W3 is really brilliant. Geralt did love her in books and he can love her in W3. However, for two games he has been in love with Triss, due to amnesia. Now who Geralt is anymore? I think that very much depends on your perspective as a player. I can imagine that Yen might be just as odd pick for someone who played games only. Story wise PR used a neat trick with releasing the genie to give a way for Geralt to break connection he shared with Yen. A very neat way to get out, and really lovely scene if you want to continue the romance. The way I see it amnesia and the genie is a convenient way to let the players have more choices since game fans love Triss and forcing them to go after Yen who didn't really appear in the game before will make them unhappy. And I don't really feel like it's a bad choice for the dev. However let the player be able to walk away and let Roche killed by Djikstra is a really bad move.
  20. Not necessarily. Listening is slow and reading by yourself is much faster. So I always read and skip ahead even if the VO isn't done yet. I just don't have the time to sit and listen all the time, and it has nothing to do with the quality of the VO. If i was good VO, you'd want to listen to it just to hear it, even if you'd already read the dialogue, unless you simple have almost no free time of course. It should be pleasing to the ear and offer information not easily dropped just through text, or else what's the point of even having it? From my experience of playing DOS 2, around 80% Of the time I actually listen to the voiced dialogue, but that has nothing to do with the quality of the voice acting or writing for the other 20% of the game. Sometimes I'm just not in a mood in listening to some guy slowly talking for a whole minute while I can read everything in 10 seconds. Or maybe I'm about to do something else and have to finish this conversation as quickly as possible so that I can save.
  21. Yen is not terrible. She can be a bit unempathetic but she acts on pretty solid logic. She has good reasons for doing things she does. Yeah but she's kind of a giant **** to everybody while she does it. She treats Geralt terribly throughout the game and it's played as some sort of epic troubled romance, but she's just really mean to him all the time. When she accused him of cheating on her when he was amnesiac and being lied to, I decided she was pretty terrible and I hated her. Geralt loves her though, which is one of the major problem I have with Witcher 3: it gives the player too many options. Geralt has established personality and personal history, yet the game let the player make lots of decisions for him. Some of these decisions are fine, but others didn't really fit with his character, and it breaks the immersion completely. The romance option is one of them.
  22. That'd be cool but I somehow doubt it. Still, I think something spoilery is going on there. Yeah they probably won't do that. However I do think it is possible that companions have different portraits which changes based on what happened in the game. For example during certain quest some of your companion might lose an eye, so in the rest of the game he/she will have an eye-patch on.
  23. Maybe they will add several alternate portrait for each companion, the majority stays the same but have several expression change, like an angry Aloth, an happy Aloth and sad Aloth, to use in different conversation.
