Yup; I do use the immunity scrolls. For instance, if I know I will fight an enemy group that will force my Priest to cast 2 Prayers, then I chose to only let the Priest cast 1 Prayer and scroll the other(s), because I don't want to gamble that a Priest can cast multiple Prayers in a timely fashion. Ah, I did not realize Confusion was better on the scroll version either! Too bad I really soured on all forms of mind control, after learning that the enemy keeps the buffs I agree that scrolling is cheesy, but I am a newb, so I am trying to master the game first!

I like the way plate looks - too bad there aren't any good uniques that justify using them (especially when you consider how much it slows them down)...Well, I think there are some good uniques. Sanguine has the frenzy enchantment, with that active and durgan steel, you esstenially have no recovery penatly at all. Also, keep in mine that there is a big jump up from mail to plate in terms of DR, 3 more reduction instead of the usual 1DR per 5% speed penatly. In other words, could say that all plate armors have a hidden bonus enchantment of +2 DR. Or “free crucible knight faction bonus (second skin)”. I also think think the bonus DR for pierce and slash that playe has is very powerful. Many enemies like lions and wolves (and kith with great swords) have dual damage types of “slash/pierce”, so having both of them Increased together is better than it seems. Most ranged attacks are pierce too and it is the most common enemy damage type. I usually further give my plate bonus crush DR, the third most common type (unless I plan to wear the cloak of comfort since its bonus DR gets suppressed if you enchant your armor with pierce, slash, or crush). Maybe non-unique exceptional plate is actually one of the best in the late game. Because it doesn’t have any (for you, useless) enchantments, you can upgrade it to legendary quality, apply your choice of a +stat, and give it a damage-type-specific DR increase. Plus, it looks great. I am not a fan of Frenzy, because I like transparency, and I would go nuts not knowing my HP. (I know you can mouse over to get a rough idea, but that's more micro-management!) I do agree that the substantial DR increase is very useful early - but later in the game enemies will hit you hard enough that the increase in DR does not seem to matter as much. Also, you didn't address the recovery issue I mentioned: For every class other than perhaps for a pure Phrase Chanter, I just think reducing recovery time is so much more important than a bit more DR. And the Chanter can just wear Ryonna's armor - so I literally never touch plate in my games.

I recently discovered the joys of scroll-whoring, and the game became so much easier this way. In fact, everyone in my party - yes, literally everyone! - takes Lore at least to 8, and everyone other than the Mechanic specialist takes it to at least 10. So needless to say, I use a lot of scrolls; and, in so doing, I discovered that the Scroll of Defense in fact does more than the comparable Priest Spell: Circle of Protection. More specifically, Scroll of Defense gives you higher values, larger AoE radius, and longer duration. So, given nearly infinite cash from mid-game onward, why would you ever want to use Circle of Protection? So it got me thinking: Are there any spells that are completely obsoleted by scrolls that are better in every fashion in the same way? Or at least by scrolls that are better at least in one respect and not worse in any respect? Mostly, I'd like to learn what great scrolls I am currently neglecting - if any. At the moment, I only use as a main staple - in addition to Scroll of Defense - Scroll of Protection, Scroll of Paralysis, Scroll of Moonwell, and Scroll of Critical Endurance. Other scrolls I use, too, but they are very situational.

Just a question about combining the TC mode with the disable auto-save option in the IE mod: What copy does the game "save" with auto-save disabled? Or is TC (or ironman mode) incompatible with the disable auto-save option in the IE mod? I'd rather give up on the idea of trying the TC mode than giving up the disable auto-save, because letting that on makes the game lag horribly.

When I wrote that post, I was actually thinking about adding the leveling methods. In the end I decided against it, as they could be considered nuances and the methods will seem a little "micro-nature". But I guess I should have included those. A little disclaimer - some of the processes will seem gamey/gimmicky. Leveling of Nightshroud: Overview - when intentionally leveling Nightshroud, you should leave your offhand empty. This will give the mainhand attack a +12acc bonus which will help with Priests generally low acc. - most soulbound have criteria which are kill X number of enemy types or deal X dmg to a certain enemy types. So it will be desirable to leave fodder enemies littered across the opening area of the game. - you probably need to do some micro to put your party in idle mode so that they don't accidentally kill steal 1. 13 Blind Procs One of the easiest criteria to clear. Just hit your own teammates. Can be done out of combat. To quicken the process, unequip deflection boosting items on the teammates. If health gets too low, rest up. So it is more convenient to do this at Caed Nua. Just remember to save and reload after you first bind the weapon. There is a small issue where the game doesn't register that weapon is binded to give the blind proc without a reload. 2. 13 Humans or 65 enemies For 13 humans criteria, I will leave the following fodder enemies alone until I reached this criteria. Not to say these are only ones available but these are the ones I personally will go through if I need Nightshroud unlocked. Also note that - the enemies must be humans. Kith groups usually have Aumaua, orlans and elves. So don't be surprised if killing a kith type enemy doesn't get counted. It is likely the enemy is not a human type - killing the human with Barbs of Concentration proc from the weapon doesn't count as a kill by the weapon. This one is hard and rng dependent. Way around it is to leave more human enemies available as a buffer just in case. On the actual enemy locations - humans from Brave Derrin quest. Right side of Ondra's Gift. If you show them the dagger you gotten from the quest earlier, you can choose to attack them. - kith enemies on the right side of Maewald's room in Endless Path lvl 1. - Skaen temple questline. Plenty of kith enemies and accessible around the time you get Nightshroud - Devil of Caroc personal quest. The woodcutters are very desirable as there is a good number of them in that encounter and they are weak. 3. Kill 3 Cean Gŵla or 13 enemies The 3 Cean Gŵla locations I know that are easily accessible in the early game are - Lilith in the Wailing Banshee in Ondra's Gift - Cean Gŵla with the 4 enthralled justicars in Heritage Hill - Cean Gŵla which spawns when you get the Greenstone Staff in Longwatch Falls However, there is chance that you kill those with Barbs of Concentration and screw up the kill count. In that case, the Battle Sirens in Durgan Battery also counts as Cean Gŵla too. For me, I prefer to fulfill the 13 enemy kills instead by killing random xaurips, spiders and wichts I left alone in areas between Glided Vale and Caed Nua. Thanks for the detailed explanation. So the bottom line is that I have to turn AI off and solo the easier enemies. I am thinking the best thing for me to do is to wipe out either the Doemenels or the Dozens after I get Nightshroud then? I kill these off for the extra cash (and the Doemenels give you 2 Rings of Protection to boot) around the end of Act 2, so I am not holding off much anyways. By the way, if you were to field an alternative 1H weapon for a melee/support Priest, what would it be? Give me a few alternatives, in fact, if possible! (At least in my current run, it's going to be hard to level Nightshroud as I am almost done, and there are no easy fights left that my Priest can solo.)

Sacred Immolation is not a DoT. Both can crit, yes. The picture above was with 25 INT. It's obtainable quite easily via maxed INT + items + food or with Crowns of the Faithful or other stuff. Hmm, in that case, do they have lower crit rate than normal weapon attacks? And I forgot about Crowns of the Faithful. Yes, with +6 from that, you can achieve 25 Intellect easily indeed!

But hybrid DPS/tanks can do fine in these situations, too. It appears to me that even a middle-of-the-road builds that only take minimal "tanking" Abilities/Talents/gear can achieve 200 or more Deflection and Defenses with various Scrolls and party buffs. And there is no fight where those numbers are not sufficient. Heck, I suspect even going over 175 is enough for even Llengrath. (Speaking of which, is there an actual benefit to fighting her? I realized fighting her just nets you 2 more hides, and I would frankly rather take the permanent buff to three stats.) But my point is that a Paladin can be a superb tank even without investing heavily into tanking Abilities/Talents/gear. I dual wielded the last half of the game on both him and my front-line Fighter, and the Paladin whipped out Outworn Buckler only for the Alpine Dragon and Llengrath fights (I forgot to do so on the Adra fight). So I really see no point in going the full tank route. There has to a better value to being a full tank for it to be an attractive option - something like superior crowd control/aggro maintenance (Overbearing Guard is okay in this respect, but it is not nearly enough - and, besides, it's just one level-up point, so a hybrid can just take it without going the full tanking route anyway).

Wait, how can one realistically achieve 30 Intelligence - at least on a regular basis? Even 25 requires, I assume, the Caed Nua Intelligence buff, and is that really a good opportunity cost? Come to think of it, which Caed Nua buff do folks most often use for difficult fights? I tended to use Resolve at the start and then switch to Dexterity when I get my Scrolling set-up in place. Also, can DoTs like Dragon Thrashed and Sacred Immolation crit? I thought either they could not - or their frequency is much lower, because my Chanter and Paladin crit rates nose-dive once I get their signature class AoEs.

In case you did not know, "random loot" is in fact not quite "random." Particular items spawn on particular dates, so you can guarantee everything you want: https://pillarsofeternity.gamepedia.com/Random_loot Well, I do not use console and do "time" my random loot, and it i not so bad - unless your screen load time is awful.

My Chanter is always on Mechanics duty, so he gets Gloves of Manipulation without fail. But good to know if I ever play 2 Chanters again! Yes, my chanter is a utility character too. But nothing stops you from holding Gloves of Manipulation in your inventory and putting them on when it's nescessary to pick a lock or disarm a trap, while using in battle another piece of equipment, which would benefit you more. Moreover, my chanter is actually always "she", 'cause I love that tender "Female - Mystic" voice, it's very pleasant to hear it througout the gameplay each time a trap is spotted or a lock is picked. I am anti-micro! Also, the most dangerous trap disarm scenarios are when enemies are on top of it, so you have to disarm them mid-fight. So I don't have the luxury of taking my "fighting" gauntlets off in such cases.

So upon your suggestion, I bound Nightshroud to my 1H/shield Priest. But here's the problem. I picked it up at level 13, and I couldn't even level it to level 3 by the end of the game - much less level 4 (which is when you unlock Shadowing Beyond). The main problem was that the Priest does the least weapon DPS of anyone in the group - and she gets a late start because she spends the opening moments of the fight buffing. So is there any "trick" to leveling Nightshroud on the Priest quickly other than the obvious of turning AI off on everyone else in easy encounters and letting the Priest solo? Otherwise, I think I am just going to give up on leveling this weapon and pick up something else... Edit: By the way, otherwise, the Priest in 1H/shield mode worked beautifully. As you say, late-game Priests don't auto-attack much, so it's better to put them in 1H/shield - which will 1) protect them better; and 2) position them closer to the front-line, so they can buff the melees quicker.

But my problem is I stack too many buffs, so that will just buff the Ogres I don't know when Arcane Dampener is available, and I don't know how well it works in practice, since I've never even taken the spell. But I guess it's one of those spells that is not necessary at lower levels, but is vital I never go anywhere without a Paladin, a Chanter, a Priest, and a Wizard (only the remaining 2 spots are up for grabs). So I will have Dragon Thrashed ready. But 1 Dragon Thrashed isn't THAT powerful in my experience in PotD. ???? High Mig and Int leads to awesome damage with Dragons Thrashed. Pump your stats. Use consumables before the battle, make sure equipment is boosting those two stats, use the Priest ability that adds +2 to your stats, etc... boost Mig and Int! I think I said what I said above for two reasons: 1. I am used to using 2 Chanters, so when I used 1 this time, the drop-off was painful. Of course, I should have known this via simple arithmetic, but sometimes experiencing it is far more jarring than theory-crafting! 2. I mix Dragon Thrashed with other utility songs. So I probably get less out of 1 Chanter - in terms of pure Dragon Thrashed damage - than others who only sing Dragon Thrashed.
