  1. I don't want to sound like the smartypants, but recurrent chances in such a setup don't simply add up but get multiplied. You can calculate it like so: Chance not to trigger = 0.9 Number of attacks=4 Chance not to trigger after 4 attacks is 0.9 * 0.9 * 0.9 * 0.9 * 0.9 = ~0.66 Cance to trigger = ~0.34 or 34% Still good though. The chanter has an invocation called "Hel Hyraf..." that lowers enemies' universal DR by -5. But it's not that useful compared to Killers Froze Stiff for example which is on the same tier. For dps Gauntlets of Swift Action are best of course, but they are rare and random loot, yes. Another alternative would be Mourning Gloves (not in the wiki list), then Gauntlets of Accuracy or Ryona's Vambraces (although those I always reserve for Pallegina if she's in the party). Most of the time I end up using Gauntlets of Accuracy. According to the wiki (and my gameplay) "And Hel Hyraf Crashed Upon the Shield" is a level 1 invocation, whereas "... Killers Froze Stiff" is a level 2 invocation. Other than that, great advice as usual, Boeroer.
  2. I hope that they do eventually get those items onto the consoles; otherwise, the "Complete" Edition isn't so complete.
  3. Sorry for the double-post and potential necroing of this thread. I am revisiting this build, and I want to make a version that is a frontline monk, a tank if you will, and I am trying to determine just how much higher to raise resolve and constitution, as well as what to lower, and by how much. Right now, I have two disparate ideas for this tanky TLP user: a Tank/DPS/CC build as a human and a Tank/DPS/Retaliation version as a Fire Godlike. The human version would be very similar to the original witch doctor, except I might switch out the Girdle of the Driving Wave for the Belt of Chimes (concentration boost) or another defensive belt such as the Looped Rope or the Girdle of Mortal Protection. I am also considering the Company Captain's Cap for this build, but it likely wouldn't reach its full potential until a priest gets Crowns for the Faithful. The Fire Godlike version is one that I have wanted to make for awhile, except that the challenge with this idea is that wounds cannot be used as freely due to wanting to stack wounds for Fire Wheel's bonus to retaliation and Blood Testament. I would still pick up the non-wound using CC abilities, but the ability to spam Torment's Reach and Force of Anguish would likely be greatly diminished excepting those situations where damage intake is constant and fairly large. This version would also have more constitution than the human version, as well as less dexterity, in all likelihood. The basic idea behind why I am trying to develop a tank who uses TLP is that I want to be able to hold up (weaker) melee units while taking out priority targets with TLP, especially in areas with chokepoints. In other words, I don't want to run and gun; I want to tank and spank. Any thoughts or insights would be greatly appreciated.
  4. According to the wiki and what it says in-game (at least for me), Quick Switch DOES reduce Grimoire Switch cooldown time. Coil of Resourcefulness, at least according to the wiki, doesn't. That being said, I haven't tested either in-game.
  5. The "bonus resolve" is from the background, Ixamitl Plains. Sorry for the confusion.
  6. A mix of v1 and v3? Generally it's ok.But personally I always feel a but guilty when casting a cc power with such cipher, because points put in MIG do not contribute) You think you'll be able to import the orlan, choose a new race, but retain +1 RES and +2 PER? 1. It will do.2. You will still want Whisper of Treason, Mental Binding and Amplified Wave. From damage inflicting powers you would need Soul Shock, Echo, Silent Scream, Detonate and Disintegration. And ofc Time Parasite is a must, unless you craft DAoM potions. Thanks for the feedback, MaxQuest. Quick question: Why do you say that I would change my race when transferring to Deadfire? Can you not keep the same race when transferring?
  7. Only to Cipher powers. (specifically, it's +3 to Cipher Power Level while ascended, -1 cipher power level otherwise.) Thanks for the reply. It's too bad that it only applies to cipher powers; if it didn't, it would make a multiclass ascendant/??? a perfectly reasonable pick, especially with a Nature Godlike to counteract the drawback of the subclass. If they get Ascendants working they'll be a natural pick for multiclassing, yeah. You can use the other classes' abilities while you ramp up to full, then go to town with cipher powers. I was thinking more along the lines of getting up to max focus, going to town with the other class's powers (powered up by Ascendant effect), and then using a cipher power or two. Rinse and repeat.
  8. I'm thinking about making a frontline cipher that does some cc and some damage. Specifically, I'm thinking about a Hearth Orlan for hit to crit conversion (from Ixamitl Plains for the pike starting weapon and bonus resolve upon transfer to Deadfire) that will eventually wield dual Godansthunyr (so Weapon Focus Soldier would be chosen) for the boost to might and the stun on crits, along with dual damage types. I'm thinking of the following stats: Might: 15 (17 with dual Godansthunyr) Con: 9 Dex: 15 Per: 15 Int: 16 Res: 8 Two questions: 1. Does the stat spread look good? 2. What powers would you recommend for such a frontliner?
  9. Sorry to necro a months-old thread, but I had a question pertaining to the v3 CC frontline cipher. Specifically, what powers would you recommend for the v3 cipher?
  11. For the Ascendant Subclass, does the boost to powers apply only to Cipher powers, or does it apply also to powers from another class, such as a wizard's spells or a chanter's chants?
  12. I am looking into making a Beckoner (Chanter subclass) / something else. I am currently considering Druid, Priest, or Paladin as the other class, and I am looking to have the race be Nature Godlike. For Druid, does the Lifegiver subclass prevent Chanter's summoning invocations in its ban? Also, how bad is the drop in Power Level after shifting (and is it after shfiting until end of fight or just while shifted)? For Priest, does the Eothas subclass get Returning Storm or Relentless Storm? For Paladin, what subclass would be best for supporting summoned monsters? In general, what class (presumably from these 3, but open to suggestions) provides the best in terms of support and healing to summons (and party members)? Finally, which of the above classes might have trouble triggering manually the Nature Godlike Wellspring of Life ability? Any insight on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  13. You could look at doing a combination of the Chillfog chanter build with the Drake Ambassador concept, I suppose. The Chillfog chanter covers healing endurance, and the Drake Ambassador covers charm effects. Both are on the builds list, a pinned topic in this forum.
  14. Consider looking in the Provisional Builds thread for an unarmed barbarian. With the way unarmed damage works, grazes don't hurt your DPS nearly as much as with weapons.
  15. I'm thinking about creating and eventually importing a (ranged) Druid into Deadfire, then maybe multiclassing as Druid/Ranger. I'm trying to decide whether to be a Human or a Nature Godlike. Humans get a damage and accuracy bonus (and the ability to wear hats), but Nature Godlikes get a sweet boost to Power Level (not to mention that a Nature Godlike druid just makes sense). Any thoughts?
  16. You might check out the Counselor Ploi build on the builds list, if you haven't already. I think you would find that it could meet your requirements.
  17. Greetings Forum-mates, I am looking to make a human cipher with very, very high accuracy and DPS with Steadfast & Stormcaller. I'm going human for the versatile, but temporary, buff to accuracy and damage. Right now, I'm thinking of the following stat spread: MIG: 20 CON: 10 DEX: 16 PER: 18 INT: 10 RES: 04 Given the low will score, Steadfast & the Company Captain's Hat will be used to alleviate the effects of will-targeting attacks. The accuracy bonuses of Borrowed Instinct & Tactical Meld will be used, along with the Perception buff of Champion's Boon from Steadfast (and potentially Wild Leech before getting Steadfast). Right now, I am trying to determine whether to go dual wield or sword and shield for the melee component. This will be a flanker, not a tanker, so constitution isn't as valuable here. Still, a shield would help with survivability in melee. On the other hand, proper support from tanks would allow a dual-wield version of this idea to wreak some havoc. I have checked the speed calculator, and it seems that even with Time Parasite, the Gauntlets of Swift Action, a durganized shield, and durganized robes, I can't get to 0 recovery. Still, it does get pretty darn low, and having a shield (small) would ensure that all melee kills are done by Steadfast, allowing it to potentially proc Champion's Boon. What are your thoughts? Sword and Board or Dual Wield?
  18. Sorry for the confusion. I should've quoted the above post in my previous post.
  19. Sorry for the double-post; I had an additional question regarding Novice's Suffering. Does it still not work with Avenging Storm? I don't have a druid at that high of a level; if I did, I'd test it myself.
  20. After running some numbers, I have come to the conclusion that Soul Mirror isn't as great as one would hope on the major fights. Aila Braccia is still pretty good, but I think I'm going to build with The Golden Scales and Durgan-Refined Badgradr's Barricade on my retaliation & reflection monk. A nearly 1 in 3 (30%) chance of reflection is still pretty darn good and allows me to build my character in a way that is tanky while not gimping their offense too much, if at all.
  21. Lightning Strikes works with Battle-Forged? I thought I read somewhere that it didn't. EDIT: Found it. It's from the Monksterlasher build of yours, actually. "Monk's Turning Wheel and also Blood Testment (not Lightning Strikes) work with retaliation! Not only the normal one, but also Battle Forged as well as Flame Shield. That means that with 10 wounds your Battle Forged retaliation will have additional +50% burn damage and + 20% raw damage lashes. Since Battle Forged starts pretty whimpy but gets very powerful at higher levels (scaling) this leads to very high damage via burning retaliaion. Flame Shields retaliation (+50%/+20%) adds to this if you drink a potion"
  22. That's good to hear! As for the duration of The Long Pain, I figure I might take 3 or 4 points out of resolve and put them into Intellect, raising it to 6 or 7. With Ryona's Breastplate, I'll have 10 INT total, and whenever someone hits or crits me (rare), I'll have a chance to get +20 to all defenses for 20 seconds. Still, at 3 INT, The Long Pain lasts for 30 * .65 = 19.5 seconds. That might be enough time to fire off a good few hits. That being said, you have a point that longer is better. I suppose that if I take a point out of dexterity, too, that would allow me 8 intellect with 15 resolve. If I go with a party, 15 resolve is probably enough, given buffs from a priest. What are your thoughts?
  23. Strange. I guess the wiki is out of date, as it says that Soul Mirror reflects 50% of ranged misses. Ah well.
  24. Thanks, Boeroer. Well, wherever he is, I hope Jojobobo is doing well. On a side note, I just came up with what should be a really fun combo: combining the reflecting monk, perhaps as a Wood Elf, with a priest. Instead of pumping perception, I would pump dex, leaving perception at base. This allows this build to use The Long Pain. While you lose the alia braccia part when using TLP, Champion's Boon & Devotions for the Faithful (EDIT: meant Crowns for the Faithful) should cause most attacks to still miss, allowing Soul Mirror to do its thing. In addition, I'm thinking I would take Ryona's Breastplate on this monk for the Vigorous Defense bonus and the Disciplined Barrage bonus from Spelldefense, in addition to the extra intelligence. Crits, anyone? Here's my current spread I'm thinking of on the Wood Elf monk version: Str: 17 Con: 10 Dex: 19 Per: 10 Int: 3 Res: 19 What do you think of this?
  25. Well, there's the retaliation monks (The Anvil, Monksterlasher), but I'm guessing you've already looked at those. If you're looking for an interesting twist, perhaps look up the Provisional Builds thread on this subforum. There's a build that focuses on reflection of ranged attacks (Soul Mirror ability, The Golden Scales armor, Bagradar's Barricade shield). Adding that to a retaliation build would make sense, and could be quite fun.
