It did get better when they finally merged the servers, but that took so long they lost a lot of players. And if the F2P, which is coming soon, gets implemented like it is right now at the test servers I'm willing to bet they will keep losing players. It's so ridicilously restricted that I will be VERY surprised if they actually manage to encourage players to pay them anything. More likely most new players will think the game is horrible and forget it. People testing on the pts are subscribers testing with restricted features. Of course they will think that it's horribly restrictive. But what I've heard from people who have experience with other, successful, F2P initiatives like LOTRO and EQ2, is that SWTOR is actually fairly relaxed in comparison. The point isn't to get subscribers to play the game through micro transactions, the point is to keep the subscribers and get people who never would have given the game a shot to pay for it through micro transactions. Or better yet to become subscribers. Whether or not that is a valid business model remains to be seen, but what they're doing makes sense in that light (and they have taken to feedback from the PTS and removed some of the worst restrictions).

Since I actually play the game, I can say it's far from a ghost town. With server merges that have taken place, the servers that are open are well populated. And I see some faces coming back to the game now that GW and Panda release hypes have died down. Also there have been recent articles showing the game isn't doing as poorly as some make it out to. Bioware once stated that they need 500k subscribers to not lose money, and they have somewhere between 500k - 1 million now (hard to get accurate numbers), so as long as they've stabilized they're still making some money on the game. If the F2P initiative is succesful, the game will probably become even more profitable for them long run. But the main thing they need to do is keep their promise of regular content updates. If they fail to deliver on that, people will probably start leaving again. Whether or not they'll manage to recoup their initial investment is of course another story.

So what I think th OP is trying to do is something like this thread: http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/59404-geckling-diaries-the-tech-files/ Just with developer trackers links instead of tech links. So should be doable, but maybe Fionavar has special priveliges...

Are you replying in the wrong thread humanoid? Don't think multiple urls have much to do with that (though the other thread seems more suitable). As for the problem, I'm pretty sure I've seen topics with more than ten or so links in them, but they have been more than just a list of links. Typically some text explaining what the links are etc.

They got my pledge only because they had notch in the KS video, so apparently it helped some -
Which iPad type gadget for elderly father?
Spider replied to WDeranged's topic in Skeeter's Junkyard
Depends on what you're dragging. For instance, I have a movie player (AV Player or something like that) that can play movies without them having to be in whatever format apple has decreed )mp4 or mov I think). There I can drag and drop movies from windows to the app in itunes, so they don't need to be in the itunes library at all. The kindle app works the same way, but when it comes to the integrated apps (like music) I think it needs to be in the itunes library, but you can drag and drop from there if you don't want to have the autosync turned on. Agree on the cover, it's basically mandatory. -

Flash is no longer supported on android either. I think it still kinda works, but it's not being updated or maintained (and brings a lot of problems with it anyway). As for dragging and dropping files, it depends on what files. You can use itunes and drag and drop pdf files into the bookshelf app for instance, or movies to a movie app etc etc. But you will have to use itunes (although to be fair, using itunes to sync stuff like music is fairly simple as long as you can fit all your music on the pad). While I have no problems recommending android on phones to anyone, I'd be hesitant with android for tabs. I personally find it a bit lacking still (although my experiences with it are kinda limited). I have heard very good things about Microsoft's Surface though, although have no personal experience with it at all. My brother loves it, but then again he works at MS, so he's a bit biased. -
if you want as much story as possible, then max int, wisdom and charisma, they open a lot more dialogue options. And if you're maxing those stats, you'll have to be a wizard. Combat works that you select one of your party members, then click on an enemy. That party member will then attack that enemy until it's dead, then you need to chose a new target for it (there is ai that kinda helps with that, but it's a bit meh). So no need to click for every attack or anything like that. You can select multiple party members at once if you want them to attack the same enemy. Then there's the spells, you typically need to pause the game for those, and then select your spell in the spell menu, and then select a target for it.

Hmm, my game i felt was going good, I only had laser after the alien base. is plasma much better? As for my game, it took a turn for the worse when I went to a ufo landing and got most of my a-team wiped out (apart from the two currently going through psi studies). That left me with a team without a heavy (I had four snipers, two assaults and two support, but only unlocked one heavy) and suddenly I was outclassed on every mission. So I couldn't get my rookies to level up and had no alloys and no way to get more. Let's just say I think I'm starting over again. A single bad mission can really mess you up.

I'm confused. On kickstarter they have their goal set to 500k, but the website wants 2 million and is currently at one million. So what happens if Kickstarter raises 500k exactly and the website something like 1.2 million? The funds will be drawn from those pledging on KS, but the game won't reach it's actual goal... Think it's a weird set-up for sure.

Yeah, the story there got kinda meh. gameplay was still fantastic though. Of course the expansion, Silent Storm Sentinels, was even better and is my favorite game of this type to date. I think the combat in FO:T is better than the one in XCOM. I think XCOM is a better game overall, mind. (ok, if you factor in those damn robots in the end as part of the combat, I'll agree, but the system was solid)

So I've finally managed to get a game going that feels like I'm going somewhere. My base is progressing nicely, and my team is starting to look like super soldiers. I have lost Mexico (before the first council vote even) and am on the verge on losing another one by the next vote, but I think that'll be ok. yeah, I haven't gotten very far, but for the first time I don't feel like I'm behind in any specific area (except maybe my council relations, but there's not much I could have done there). Of course, one bad mission and it can all go down the drain, I realize that. but I'm hopeful. One question though, how do people level up their snipers? They should be extremely deadly, but mine just don't feel that way. I guess it could be because I suck at getting elevation (because always when I try to get a sweet spot, there are always aliens there waiting to kill me, so I'm cautious these days)

Silent Storm says hello (as does Fallout Tactics for that matter)... But yeah, these types of games aren't exactly common. So it's good that we get some fantastic ones every now and then.

If the iOS version comes with mod support, or at least a difficulty level that is similar to what SCS does, I'll get it, otherwise I'll give it a pass.

While I agree it's a significant update, it's for another reason than Nepenthe probably... They promised they were going to post content updates every six weeks or so from now on, and this is the first sign they're actually going to deliver on that promise. Which is very good news indeed.

that's probably it. Just frustrating that it doesn't show up in the list when I only have 4, like everything else does.

bes solution to overwatch is t gt the assault upgrade where the first one will miss automatically. I have a fairly big crush on assault soldiers overall. Hurli, to answer your question why anyone would play on ironman the first time, for me it's because I don't mind failing. I want the game to be challenging, hard and unforgiving. I want losses to be felt, and I don't mind restarting when things spiral out of control. That way when I beat the game, it'll be that much sweeter. I have a question that I feel really stupid for asking: What do I have to do to be able to build workshops? because I could swear I could build those in one of my first playthroughs, but in my last one where I got a lot further than before, they just weren't available to me. An 4 engineers really aren't enough...

When you've already spoken out against the game being less XCOM than the shooter game, you just come off as looking for vindication of your opinion. If you are not interested in the game, I suggest moving on and not contaminating the thread of people actively discussing the game and having fun with it. Though here he actually has a point. Having HD videos included in the install, but no way to actually see them in game is kinda sloppy. Especially since I find the low quality renders to be quite jarring. I mean since they're using engine footage any way, why not let the engine render those in real time instead, so they'd be the same resolution as the actual game...

So I had a brief vacation to the US today, and unlocked my game. Have to admit I'm loving it so far. I'm playing it on classic ironman difficulty, and yeah. It's definitely difficult. I've already restarted once and am going to restart my second time soon. I got a bit stumped the second dime when I didn't use the tutorial, because my second sattelite never showed up (in the tutorial it felt like it was just handed to you, but of course it has to be built). So My financial means aren't what they should be. That and some positioning issues causing to lose my best soldier for the third time made me think it's time for another go. The game sure has a learning curve and isn't afraid to punish you for mistakes. And I love it. Fantastic game all around so far.

Question to Zeckul: You're talking about enhanced mod support, but is there any way to mod an iPad version of the game? It should be possible to drop in mods through the iTunes interface for instance. If not, have you added difficulty options that put the game on par with what SCS does?
-
Yeah. I have it bought and preloaded. It feels like it's mocking me. Regional lockouts for digital products is just insulting (I understand why it happens, but the gaming industry really should try and find a way where it isn't needed) Strongly considering a VPN as well. It's only needed to unlock, after that it can be turned off?
-
I just love how confident the developers seem to be about their product. They're really getting it out there that they've got an amazing product, and putting themselves in the line of fire in case it's not. It's very rare for me to see that. I'm super psyched, less than a week to go now (but it's probably region locked, so next friday in europe?)

Agreed, my favorite RPG level of all time I think.
