Why? It was perfectly plausible, given the scope of BSG story line, that Starbuck is still alive. Also, who says that it is the real Starbuck? Cylons could have easily done cosmetic surgery on a six to look like Starbuck and the whole being to Earth a lie, yet another falsehood from the Cylons, which they are getting good at mind you.

'The Role we don't play' Opinion piece from the Codex
Sand replied to Girias_Solo's topic in Computer and Console
The question, fi I read RP's essay right, is that he claims there is little role playing in role playing games nowadays. That computer role playing games today are more focused on telling a story in linear form with a moderate level of interaction where computer role playing games in the "good ol' days" allowed more freedom. With few exceptions majority of the CRPGs from the good ol' days were hack and slash titles with very little interactivity. More akin to Diablo and the Gold Box games than Fallout and Planescape Torment. I think that RP has a pair of very thick rose colored glasses on based on his arguments, and when you are trying to make a solid critique of a subject matter the rose colored glasses need to come off. The level of interaction between the game and the player has not overly changed in the past decade, but the type of interaction has. From being told what is going on with text, we are now shown through cinematics and voice. The level has interaction has not changed at all. Just the style in which it is presented. -
Depends on how quickly the Cylon ship picked her up.

Is that the best Dark Raven impression you can do?

'The Role we don't play' Opinion piece from the Codex

Ah, yes, but we are talking about CRPG triple A titles from a major developers and publishers. Companies that invest millions of dollars in development and marketing. Games that not only be on the PC but also on the current generation of consoles. Not independents. Tell me, how well do you think that game with those graphics would sell on the X Box 360 or PS3? I never even heard of Harpoon 3, nor Harpoon 2 or 1. -

Its not matter of reproducing, its a matter of profitability. Some of you guys seem to forget that the gaming Industry is in fact an industry whose purpose is to be profitable. -

The problem of comparing films to CRPGs is that is it is a false comparison for one key element: Interaction. Even the most linear of games, CRPG or not, has a level of interaction that draws in the player to continue playing while a film, regardless of genre and themes, do not have that level of interaction. In cinematic CRPGs, there are indeed elements borrowed from films, such as camera angles, dramatic posturing, and the like but there is still a measure of interaction that sets it apart. Given the newer technologies we have today compared to 10 years ago we can actually show not only the action of the game but also the reactions and actions of characters in both inflection of their voice, movements in their genstures, and facial expressions. So instead of being "told" in text that a character is acting in a certain way or reacting in a specific matter we are shown. Anyway, that is how I see it. If one does not like the way CRPGs are being made today, as a consumer, you have the option of not buying the games. Vote with the wallet as they say for the video game industry is a business and it will go where the money is. If there is money to be found in "old school" CRPGs then they will be made. If not, they won't. Either move with the times and have fun for what the newer games are or find a different hobby. Plain and simple. -

The dialogue system for ME does suck, but that is the way it is. Don't like it? Don't buy the game.

This is coming from a site that makes fake interviews and fake game pics to promote their narrow-minded agenda. Why should they have any level of credibility? -
Yes, but getting the new X Box with the HD DVD drive is more expensive than one just getting a PS3 with a next gen drive already built in.

That is what happens when I am bored. At least I didn't ask if chimps have souls and make this into a freally funky discussion. Still, the studying the intelligence of Chimpanzees and how well they adapt to new environments, learning language, and making the use of various tools is very fascinating. At least to me.

Every parent thinks their kid is special for some odd reason.

Or that she did eject, and with the storm and the explosion Apollo did not see the Cylon ship pick Starbuck up.

I don't know about hat but I think we are heading for a full Middle Eastern meltdown that destroy the region from Pakistan to Israel, from Saudi Arabia to Afganistan.

MYSTARY!

Probably and by that time what X Box 360 games I would get will already be out on PC. HA! Therefore making it unnecessary to buy a X Box 360.
-
I can just imagine the UK, US, and with Israel coming from behind invading Iran, then Iran unleashing its nuclear arsenal on Israel in retaliation. The atomic spark that will rage across the middle east will be deafening.
-
If no HD DVD built in then its not worth it. I'll wait to get an X Box 360, if it is still viable, when I can get this system $100 or less.

I am all for kids not getting their hands on mature rated material on their own. If their parents buy it for them that is a different matter. The fault lies on the sales clerk and the parents who can't be actual parents, not the distributor/publisher or the developers. Mature and Adult Only games should be allowed to be sold where ever they can be. It is the parents' job to monitor their kids. Not schools. Not the government. Not the media. Not the game stores. Not the developers. Not the distributors/publishers. This is where Jack Thompson is a failure and why he will remain a failure. Put the responsibility in the hands of those responsible. The goddamn parents.

Yes, I think we just had the "WTF!!!! Trout" beaten on the side of our head so hard that the cranium caved in and we have exposed grey matter all over the wall.

Of course you couldn't. I expected it.
