  1. If someone has to choose between buying food and buying a video game, then their priorities are messed up, which is probably why they are in a situation where they are choosing between food and video games. You mean Live? I guess it's a shame that I recently bought most everything I was interested in. I still haven't gotten around to playing the RDR undead add-on and Costume Quest. No time for job, too many free video games to play...
  2. Yeah, because publishers and developers are very concerned with what internet forum dwellers go on and on about
  3. This was the voice actress for Deus Ex 2? Interesting... she also voiced the protagonist in Bloodrayne. And a bazillion anime characters. Her voice was the best part of the Bloodrayne games. Are the Bloodrayne games worth buying and playing on GOG or kind of wastes of time if one has other things to play to keep them busy? I played through the original on the PS2, and other than the awesome voice of Laura Bailey and the fact I cheated my way to the end, I don't remember much about it. Never got far into the sequel due to disinterest.
  4. I certainly enjoy a game more if it looks good*, but what looks good has more to do with art style and my own tastes than technical wizardry. I always preferred the pixel art of Monkey Island to the hand-drawn scans of Monkey Island 2, and I don't have a problem with mostly monochromatic colour schemes. I think there may be too much assuming going on by you in some cases. I recall one time at the Lair when I praised the graphics in Far Cry after playing the demo and you went off your nut as if my commenting only on the graphics in that one post meant that I only cared about the graphics. Also, when someone watches a game trailer and says it "looks good" they may not necessarily be referring to the graphics. *Same goes for a game that sounds good. The voice acting in the Gothic 4 demo was so bad it had a hugely negative effect on how I felt about it, and I'm not too cool and jaded to admit that.
  5. Link It'll be DRM free I disagree strongly with the practice of "shake down" letters I'm conflicted Shake down letters? Do you also disagree with security guards nabbing shoplifters? Despite all the excuses (I was just testing it, I'm too poor, after completing it I've decided it's not worth anything, etc) people pirate because they can get away with it. There is no fear of being caught and punished. CD Projekt is attempting to change that, I hope it works out for them but I'm not convinced it will. As for the Humble Indie Bundle, you could pay as little as you want and the money went to charity and still people pirated it, downloading directly from the devs website even.
  6. Along with the others I mentioned, Mary Elizabeth McGlynn is one of my favourite voice actors.

  8. Like ME1 & 2, the female PC in DX:IW was a superior voice actor. I love the voices of Jennifer Hale and Laura Bailey, so being able to play as a female character sure as hell did add something to the game.
  9. Sweet, sweet inventory tetris: 21 Augs:
  10. If the game lets me play as Lance Henriksen then it is the greatest game in the history of the universe.
  11. Five, but they were all bad.
  12. That statement is right up there with "I don't have time to play long games" and "I wish they hadn't spent less time on graphics and more time on story" as the most inane thing you can possibly say. You don't want "needless" complexity? Gee ****ing whiz. I would just love me some needless complexity! That's what this entire discussion's been about. Needless complexity. I never said "I don't want needless complexity". "Needless complexity is the entire problem with the control system in Trespasser." is the statement I made. If you want to argue against that, then go right ahead.
  13. The other end of what scale? I actually just finished Fable 3, and it's not one button for combat it's three (melee, firearms, and magic), with different strength attacks, so it's not quite as simple as you seem to think. It is, however, very, very easy. It's possibly the least challenging game I've played in years, on account of there being none, but looking for challenging combat in Fable is like looking for quality first-person shooting in Deus Ex. As for the glowing trail to your selected target, that can be turned off in the options menu. I really love inventory tetris. Okay maybe love is too strong a word, but I never find it a chore and I do derive some sort of OCD based pleasure from rearranging my stuff. The lack of or removal of an inventory does not constitute a dumbing down. The inventory in Deus Ex might be more complex than the one in Thief, but they're both still simple. Complex does not equal complicated, and simple does not equal stupid. Needless complexity is the entire problem with the control system in Trespasser. That other end of that scale is every other FPS ever.
  14. I've missed you. This place just isn't the same without you kicking me around. If everyone else on the planet was half as smart as the two of us we'd all be enjoying first person games with control systems like Trespasser. Sure, picking up and carrying an item is about a billion times more complex and annoying than real life, but just because reality has been dumbed down for the masses doesn't mean our games have to be.
  15. I love inventory tetris, but that's because I "get" it, unlike the ignorant masses who don't understand the complexities of putting things into a box and who spend all day drooling on themselves. If they spent their money on an education instead of a constant supply of paper towel they'd be smart enough to appreciate it half as much as an intelligent fellow like myself.
  16. I played with Tali and Garrus. Tali had one word to say, and Garrus' presence was mentioned later on. Given the significance of events in this DLC, I do wonder how it will carry over into ME3 for those who don't play it.
  17. Mousefrog is my lord and master.

  18. After playing Dead Rising 2: Case Zero a dozen times, I'm really looking forward to Dead Rising 2. I haven't really been following the game, because the whole Western developers take over Japanese franchise thing tends not to work out for me, but this is fab. Controls have been improved and the not terribly interesting photography of the original has been replaced with the awesome combo weapons. It's gonna be a long three weeks.
  19. Have you actually read any of those reviews? 7 isn't a really low score, the 4 from Eurogamer is a really low score. This review does a good job of summing up how I feel about the game. There's also this Wot I Think from RPS, that hasn't been dumbed down with a score and forces one to actually read the text.
  20. Fan response to this does seem to be similar to AP. Reviewers who don't get it because they aren't playing it right. Scores of 7 that OMG should totally be 8 or 9. The apparently belief there is some conspiracy against the game. I played a rental for a couple of nights, and going in knowing this was a linear, story heavy shooter, not an open world game at all, I found it alright. I didn't finish it and I don't really care to. The combat is a lot of fun, but there really isn't enough of it. The driving is nice, but there is way too much of it. Chapter 8 was terrible, it would have been better if they cut out the tedious driving and just made it one long cutscene. The city is beautiful and it's a nice place to drive through, but drive from point A to B, repeat isn't really acceptable gameplay.
  21. Curious what your thoughts on that were. It seemed to get quite a bad rap from most Adventure Game sites. I liked it. It tries a bit hard to be like Broken Sword: Shadows of the Templars, but the story, characters, voice acting & dialogue aren't that good and are overall a mixed bag. The puzzles are quite comparable, very McGuyverish. It's a solid 7/10. The sequel apparently is much better. I really liked the voice actor for Nina in Tunguska. She was sassy. I was disappointed Nina sounded so different in the sequel.
  22. Performance on consoles isn't as big of an issue as you seem to think, but like I said before it really all depends on how demanding you are. The biggest issue in reviews so far is that it's an open world game that doesn't really need to be in an open world. A linear set of missions that can be completed in roughly 10 hours, with very little to do outside those missions.
  23. I've played the demo on both PC and 360 and didn't find it terribly riveting. The 360 version isn't as bad as some people seem to be saying, though I guess it depends on how demanding you are concerning resolution and framerate. Are you personally offended by jaggies like purkake or do you play all your game at low res without aa like slowtrain? The home you start out in and the surrounding neighbourhood and parkland is very pretty but after roaming around the city there doesn't really seem to be much going on (and someone on the Qt3 forum claims that side missions have been cut), and the one mission included was short and not terribly interesting. I did like that I could plug in the 360 controller and the on screen prompts changed accordingly, and I do love it when I can interact with object in the game world even if that interaction doesn't actually amount to anything. It doesn't help that I don't particularly care for the gangster setting. I've been spoiled by having just recently played through Red Dead Redemption, which is a fantastic game in the same style and easily my favorite of the year. I've never been terribly fussed over the wild west but I ended up really enjoying the setting and it made me dig up Desperado and Call of Juarez for some more. And I'm totally in love with Bonnie McFarlane. Any open world game was going to be disappointing after playing RDR.
  24. Of course not, and neither are the words used above. The thread title is misleading because the thread starter has misunderstood the story. Man sends racist fax to politician, he was taken to court over it but found to have broken no law. There was a similar case recently where a cop arrested a man for telling her to "f--k off" but it was thrown out because swearing isn't actually illegal.
  25. Currently playing through old adventure games, starting with the first one I ever played (and the first one Lucasarts ever made), Labyrinth for the C64. Based on the classic film from my childhood, which was also called Labyrinth.
