At 2:40 you can see the gunmen who are holding Crimean governmental buildings. One of them has a fancy painted AK with some kind of holo sight. These guys do not look like any kind of local irregulars. IMO. Either Russian special forces or Yanuk's personal guard.

It's the prosecutor's office. He wants their boss and he is not there. This doesn't please Muzychko.

Reportedly Kiev attempted to give orders to the officially disbanded Berkut unit in Crimea. Their response was, "We are disbanded". Also reportedly just a few days ago they ordered SBU Alfa to disarm the Crimean Berkut, SBU refused. It's a mess. It's not clear who controls what or if they control anything at all. Kiev as of yet made no real effort to reconcile with ethnic Russians in the east, no offers of dialog, no reassurances of their rights, no addressing their worries. In fact one of the first things they did is abolish the law regulating the status of the Russian language -- as if this was a priority -- fully knowing how it would be taken. The irony here: Kiev government ignored the protest in the capital and it escalated. Now they do the same. They just want to have their way with the east. What were they fighting for again?

So far this is inching towards civil war step by step... The new government is going to have to do something about these guys from "Right Sector", otherwise even the west is going to start raising eyebrows. They indeed are the authority at the moment: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q8JC-ZjqFb4#t=0

I don't know how anyone can live there.

This is what happens when you go from zero to billionaire. House of one of Yanuk's closest friends:

No. But a bunch of Russian bloggers are there. Here is Berkut police unit from the "Russian" city of Sevastopol returning home. Just to give you guys a flavor of the differences between east and west. Enemies there, heroes here. This may still end badly. "Everyone alive everyone healthy! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" - the crowd chants.

Yanuk is running Windows on a Mac... because of course he does.

Meanwhile in eastern Ukraine not everyone is a fan of Maidan...

Fair enough although that first one sounds very murky. I never said they are. I specifically said nationalist thugs are amongst the protesters. Which is true and I would credit them with most of the deadly violence against police. There is a large part of the violence which was mutual and reactionary. The bulk of the violence on thursday was practically open combat. Which is why I don't think it's objective to blame the police for all of it. Yeah some could be snipers that chose to shoot someone harmless. Someone else however could be saving his buddy from having his head cracked open with a bat as it is a fact of the matter that police came under open attack. It's a fake. EDIT: http://zyalt.livejournal.com/1007568.html Here are pictures from Yanuk's residence. He has a golf course and a private Zoo. But the "golden toilet" thing is a long running urban legend. The photo is not from his residence.

Let's be objective about Ukrainian police. Are they totally clean? Not even close. Watch the video below however, watch the whole things and note how mostly passive the police is (and yes I know it's just one video, but the things shown are things that factually happened) and how aggressive and organized the protesters were. Note the pepper sprays in possession of multiple protesters in the same crowd all individuals acting aggressively - imo clearly planned to do so. Remember also all the molotov ****tails which are no joke in as far as how much harm they can cause. Also as far as I know the first gunshot victims were police. Lets not pretend that Berkut had no cause to use deadly force when threatened with weapons, injured, and killed. These things are facts. Remember the presence of nationalists gangs alongside protesters. Also below are fotos and videos of Alexander Muzyko (there is him openly brandishing an AK), one of the leaders of "Right Sector" which was in charge of the "active" part of the process. Alexander Muzyko had close links to chechen terrorists since the 90s and even claims to have fought in the war in 1994 (video also below) -- this is no peaceful protester. Here is a quote from him: "As long as blood flows in my veins I will wage war against communists, jews and moscovites. This is my duty." Nice guy he may end up in the government now. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8PHnV1EnsA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mOgQ6i_9Qbc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=adNazIUNsxY

Cry me a river. If it was a Russian that lost a medal no one would say anything.
-
Fair enough. But I've seen people end up with nothing and I can understand how they don't want to sacrifice for the "greater good".
-
That's easy to say when your personal life isn't affected by reform.
-
That's exactly what it was. And also there was a long stalemate in parliament and infighting amongst the opposition which left the government basically unable to function. Thing is, nothing has changed. I will be surprised if it doesn't turn into a big mess and people wont get tired of it again.
-
Yanukovich was also defeated after the "Orange Revolution" when opposition was riding the wave of PR created by those protests... and yet look who is the president now. Not that I expect he can come back again after blood has been spilled. But don't be surprised if the opposition self destructs again and the so disliked "pro Russian" forces will be back in charge.
-
There is no coming back for Yanukovich from this. Not after today. He will end badly. Some towns in western Ukraine are almost under full control of the opposition/protesters/rebels whatever you want to call them now. This may end up even worse with civil war and pieces breaking away in the east or west depending on what happens in Kiev. Do they? Many do. How many is the question.
-
It doesn't matter anymore. Winners will write history and many people will suffer in the meanwhile.

Things are going from bad to worse fast. Don't watch if you can't stomach (gunfire hitting multiple protesters). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3QEOyj4TtNE

The sad thing is there really aren't good politicians in Ukraine. Yanukovich was already deposed once in a revolution. Remember? And the revolutionaries then proceeded to make him the president in the very next election, through no cheating but their own incompetence and impotence at leadership. No reason to believe the new ones are any different. Except this time there is blood and it may end up even worse, civil wars have happened before many times in former Soviet republics. ^ One reason why this doesn't happen in Russia and wont anytime soon. On one side Putin is stronger than Kuchma and Yanukovich but on the other the opposition is weak, incompetent, lacking unity, and often blatantly russophobic or shamelessly tolerant of such.

Don't be too proud. We played like **** and deserved it.

There are. Most of the police casualties are reportedly from gunshot wounds. Most likely the work of Ukrainian neo-nationalists. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tj8xTfpvzTI

Titanfall beta. This game has a lot in common with... Crysis 3 multiplayer. The movement speed, big jumps & ledge climbing, fast navigation anywhere, cloaking, ttk is about the same.

With 17 million views I doubt it's just for likes on youtube. At least I hope they are clever enough to monetize what they do somehow.
