Thank you. That statement can pretty much apply to every good game developer. But the answer is probably somewhere in the range of 30-60 hours for me. Hard to say so early on.Yarp, it all depends on the player too or what they want out of the game, how they expect it to be vs how it turned out. I think a common mistake or a myth rather in the gaming community is that someone can excuse their version/definition of fun by saying "Fun is fun" when in actuality, an outlook on fun and boredom are different from someone else's viewpoint. Here's a dilemma: I think the fishing in the game is kinda boring because it has the realistic sense of waiting, then you have to hook a fish as the game doesn't do it for you, breaking line and reeling in can be a pain depending on the fish struggling - however when you compare this to something like a Crpg or Jrpg that has fishing you really appreciate the depth and passion that Rockstar put into this. As far as missions and side-quests, I haven't seen a bad one yet, some are just fetch quests but at least every one that I've played so far has an purpose and reason to it. Unlike something from a Elder Scrolls, Baldurs Gate or Fallout game. Rockstar just thought everything out well but I guess I could see how some people could view a country cowboy simulation as a bad thing. The map takes a hell of a while to traverse as well, getting from point A to point B can take 15-20 minutes alone and if you have bounty hunters, it will slow you down even more. That could possibly get annoying but I'm loving every moment of it. If Henry was a cowboy, he'd be Arthur. And if Dragons Dogma's map was western, it would be Missouri in DDR2. If The Witcher 3 was magically transformed into a western, it would be Red Dead Redemption 2 easily, because it's up there with The Witcher 3 in terms of any aspect of quality. By the way, for anyone who doesn't know, you do actually have to pay for Fast Travel and it only works one way - as far as I know. I just purchased the ability at camp.

Many pc eletists seem to have this mentality and because Rockstar treats pc eletists as a second-thought I kinda understand any bitterness that comes their way but the hype has been backed up quite nicely. As others have said on this forum, the horses alone have more depth than any rpg npc you can name. Fishing and hunting in the game equally have more depth than stand alone hunting/fishing games. Companions are written with meaning, a maturity. All these things are lacking in your usual rpg. To answer your question directly though, like I said, the open world is lively and the story is great. Honestly, I think I have another hundred hours or so befor I stop playing. And that's okay because by that time either Red Dead Online will be released or I'll be buying another game anyway. Either way, it's one of those few games that I am happy I paid over $60 for.

RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS - CON SEASON

Doesn't look anything like Legolas to me? Maybe it's the hair that makes you see this. Perhaps I should mention though, that this is just a first look, not the complete look. Still needs cat eyes, scars, etc. Legolas the lesser elf will look... lesser, in the end. -
I love the look ao far, contacts ans scars, maybe a little beard and he will look like Geralt on point. I'm not too crazy about the other choices for the characters though. Triss, Yennifer and the others don't fit their characters in my opinion but then again, everybody said the same thing about Titans and the show turned out to be successful so... I'm waiting to be proven wrong - which I never am.

Like if I kill a guy and take his hat, I can wear it but if I lose it during a fight it's gone forever, as opposed to a hate you buy from the store. Hat is very easy to lose, if you get hit in a fight or shot at, your hate flies away forever, if you are wearing one that doesn't belong to you. I wish that you could at least swap an owned one for a stolen one, because some folk, say they wear one that not be avail in store or tailor. And yar, Tale is right. I gotta say though, I love Beamdog <3

"Where's all the old creepy dude's hitting on underage girls?" "Don't worry, that'll be in the version you buy next year" LMAO! This game is gonna be awesome Also... Nobody could be a better Witcher. Legit! -
Contols are hard to get used to, I must admit. I still have to look at the lower right of the screen sometimes because one button can have 2 functions. I think... Alot of people are angry they have to wait for animations to skin an animal, cook and crap as well. It's still top animations but people take issue with vissue. This shouldn't affect the enjoyment of the game but well, if it were my game, I'd be happy with that being the biggest complaint I think. Why must I "buy" a hat I steal in order to own it? Oh well, I guess it's still better than having to "rest at an inn" in BG, if ya know what I mean.... Also, I hunted the legendary man eater but when I went to the trapper, my custom hat disappeared from the store. Myst or Must, I'm wondering if I have to go hunt another legendary man eater to gain the ability to buy that particular item again. Tis a Kingdom Come: Western Edition

What does photorealism have to do with it? The videos covered all trchnical aspects of the game, not just the grpahics. I'd say the storytelling and animation are RDR2's biggest feat. And who said DDR2 had bad gameplay? Rpg's don't have good gameplay mechanics as it is, at least I always played them for the story. I.E: Combat in turn-based/rtwp generally like playing chess with a blind/mute child who cannot calculate properties or placement variables correctly. All that doesn't matter though, as said before, R2D2 sets a new bar for depth in storytelling in games, it will still probably be a good while for rpg's to catch up, maybe Cyberpunk will prove me wrong, I highly doubt this (since R2D2 is linear and focused) but we shall see.
-
A small video comparison on last gen's GTAV on PC (ultra settings) vs consolist Red Dead Redemption 2 Also Yes, folks. Rockstar is the definition of quality care. This is the proof, you all asked for it and after 8 long years, your patience was finally rewarded.
-
Now that I have more experience laying R2D2 I'd like to say a few other things... The presence of community is something this game does well. See, if a mission goes awry and you're at risk of being found or followed back to your camp, you will be forced to move location. The feeling of settlers is here, it's something that's never been done before in a game. I mean, it's been attempted, sure, many times. The reputation system allows for multiple playstyles and various playthroughs. I wonder, does it affect your ending? It certainly affects relationships, reactions in greetings and dialogue as well as mood at camp. Hmmm... Now I'm wondering how long it will take rpg's to catch up to this. RDD2 is not a rpg by any means but it's one of those action story-driven games that just pulls different things together in such a way you kinda ask yourself "Why aren't complex rpg's here or past this point?" And that goes for all kinds of rpg's really. So, even though you're stuck to playing a pre-created character, and the story is linear, there is still so much choice and freedom. It's kinda like The Witcher 3 is alot of ways, in fact that's what I've been comparing it to in my head when I play. If Witcher 3 was a western... Things I don't like about RDR2... Framerate drops when you ride into towns, it can get pretty bad but it only lasts a few seconds. Pop-in. The game has a great field if view, you can see for miles, literally, BUT there are alot of pop-in issues. The horse steering can be complete bullocks at times, janky, whatever. As well as horse to object detection, my horses head got stuck in a tree at one point and its body flew up to shake it's balls in my face, I think the horse was trying to kick me but it flashed me instead. The hair on npc models looks horrible, like REALLY horrible like yarn. While everything else looks superb. All that said, the game is still a marvel.

Can we ban this person? Your Profile > Manage Ignore Prefs Anything else just encourages him. Says the troll that claims anyone that agrees with me is a duplicate account or in your exact words "sock puppet". I stil remember all the times a mod would repeatedly ask you to stop only for you to continue with your anality. I don't block anyone because honestly it's a forum, though I've gotten close to blocking you. Thing is that I'm mature enough as an adult to know that people don't always agree or disagree, thus finding common ground somewhere. Blocking someone for a few comments you don't like is weak, cowardly and petty. Hell, even if they annoy you all the time. This isn't how real life works but you are Achilles, godess of the forum.
-
Maybe but they should have at least did something smart and fun like gave us (the fanbase) riddles/teases so we could decipher and speculate, it wiuld have been much smarter for marketing and hype as well. I mean, think of all the YouTube videos.
-
The comment was 100% serious, I don't like lies or secrecy from any company, not just picking on Obsidian....
-
It IS a great thread, so uch anger in it. Sith and Red Lanterns would be proud, makes YouTube jelly.
-
I really hope the secret project is cancelled. We the people don't need any more lies or secrecy from Obsidian! BOO!!!! I miss the good ole days of happy Josh!

Me? Why thank you! I mean, I could of just said "It can be" or "It is" but members here need to be taught a lesson and I am the great professor, this is the burden of being all-knowing and all-good. I'm happy that someone appreciates what I'm doing here <3 These are troubling times in the kingdom indeed!

Why isn't it a Rockstar-type open world game? Not sure, probably better to ask the members here who stereotype every free-roam open world action game as a "Ubisoft open world" game, which is why I said it.
-
I've been playing it as well, I don't think it's unfair to say that it's a Ubisoft-type open world action game that puts Crpg and Arpg's to shame. The level of depth and caliber of storytelling here is at a place that's never done before in video games, that's how you know a game us worth the hype - but 8 years in the making makes sense of why it's a true marvel to begin with. One of the things I love is the attention to detail in animation, not sure if it's motion capture or not but it's scaringly realistic - from the sliding down rocky surfaces to getting attacked by animals. The cougar, bear and wolf animations put the newer Tomb Raider games to shame. It's that good. The conversations at the base, how you can sit at the campfire and listen to singing, people reacting to if you gave a good reputation or if you're doing bad, telling you if they're hungry or what not - this is what I wish Crpg's had.

RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS - CON SEASON

It's very slow paced but yeah, for being a Ubisoft open world type of game, it has more depth than your average Crpg/aRpg. It helps that the story is written well and the voice acting is top notch. If you don't want a game that has great story, alot of depth and alot of content with mechanics you have to learn, this isn't the game for you. It's the most detailed and lively open world to date so it certainly deserves the hype and the sales, a rare thing. Of course, this is the quality and return of investment we can come to expect when you take 8 years to develop your game instead of 1 or 2 years like most devs/publishers are doing. -
Hard to say because it depends on the game or rather the sub-genre of the game thereof in question. I've played some 15 hour indie rpg's with more depth and better writing than a 60 hour infinity engine game. I'll refrain from giving names to prevent an argument but those who have played indie rpg's woll know what I'm talking about. I think a huge fall of both older (classic) and new (modern) rpg's is that nearly every one of them is either a fetch quest, a grind-fest or pumped with some filler nonsense. That's all eliminated with hyper-focused indie rpg's though. I guess there's a huge difference in quality and passion when you're a small company with no money striving to make a great game vs a AAA large budget company like 90's Bioware. The small company will always do better.

Red Dead Redemption 2 has made over $725 Million in sales in its first 3 days and is well over by now. No other game in history comes close. And no, I doubt Cyberpunk 2077 will bypass these results - if you want to bet me, we'll see about that. And another no... I doubt not releasing on pc at the same point would dent the sales in consequence. -
I don't think any forum guests should ever take this forum or its members too seriously Oh wait, I agreed with you and said something obtrusive so now I'm probably going to be called your secondary account haha! The forum logic demonstrated on forums like this is what makes us come back for more, it's truly entertaining at the least.
-
It's me, IT'S ME!!! I felt like I had to validate myself on the forum so I created a fake account "Red Frank". *Gullible forum members chant "Ban him, ban him!!!" In all seriousness, I'm far from republican though I could see how members here who deal in absolutes would box me if I said something they didn't like as well as my "Democratic nazis should be exterminated comment". In actuality I'm pretty nuetral.

Red Dead Redemption 2 (much like PS4's Spider-Man) has Lego open world game type challenges which I love. For exampathy, how many animals you discover, how many kilometers you travel on horse vs on foot, how many weapons you come across, how many different species of plants you pick, etc. The Lego format works well here. Add to that the reputation system from old Fallout games and the light and dark system from Kotor and that's what we got here. Right now I'm in a side-quest where I have to track down gun-fighter has-beens and try to get info from them, so far not one has given me info but ends up in a duel. The cool thing is that they give me some nice guns and allow for customizations. Unleash the gattling!

I don't think I need to say anything here...
