  1. Having "enough" info for quest will vary player by player, this isn't a general thing, nor will it ever be. Therefore, anyone trying to compress that by saying "One size fits all if done right" doesn't exist. Some people are just visual learners, while others are literary, doesn't make them less intelligent. My youtube videos are mostly me playing games with hud disabled but that's only after I've learned the maps and game mechanics well enough to be confident with the decision to turn it off. Hard to believe that people would choose quest info over quest markers in a game that features large open world and on top of that other planets and space stations. Why is it hard to believe? Because the world might be really big - we don't know the extent of it. Along with that, to much information in quest dialogue makes the player look/feel stupid rather than smarter so there's that too. "Under the pink bridge on the left side of the courtyard on the west wing space station which has 3 moons" Vs "I heard it was somewhere near a bridge by the courtyard on a space station, I don't know" It also seems more realistic and believable with less detail in the dialogue for reasoning. Why would the npc have depth of a quest or object's whereabouts anyway? But the player, having some 3rd eye or some type of power to lead them does make more sense since they are the star of the story. This is the realm of how games just flow best. If we'd have it with ultra detailed dialogue, everyone would probably be complaining about that in the end as things would fall apart and/or not quite make much sense.
  2. Obsidian designing quests dialogue around a compass doesn't affect the storytelling quality anymore than using my gps to get somewhere I've never been affects our family trips from having maximum amount of fun. Yeep.
  3. That "fact" isn't correct though and I highly doubt the statistical evaluation is either. Alot of publishers and choosing other platforms such as Battle.Net, Origin, GoG and Epic Games Store and are reaping the consequences, it's never good. See, everyone - including Microsoft is learning that people don't like having multiple launchers, especially when it's one title they want to play it. Most recently, SuperGiant facing the adversity of choosing Epic Games Store ovee Steam, just check their forums and see the fans dropping like flies. Even CDPR making smart decisions by choosing Steam over GoG (which they own?). Microsoft is still putting first party games on Steam, perhaps there are a select few on Windows 10 Store because of a cross-buy option, but that doesn't say much... Ahd then there's always the pc users who dislike Steam, will say "I'll never buy on Steam" on the Steam forums but then mark their profiles private not realizing that people can still see what they play on Steam. The devs and publishers know this
  4. No, its not opinion. you just tend to follow me around and use "Unless its fact" on every comment you disagree, nothing wrong with it either OP clearly doesn't like Pillars, him openly stating it doesn't "have to" be negative, only those who enjoyed it will translate it as such. As another member said, text is easily misunderstood but in top of that we have members ego's and e-drama to throw into the mix. This is nothing new on forums, it us after all, the Internet hehe Most of all, even if members thought it was "bait", you'd figure that they'd be smart enough to ignore it instead of making the forum more toxic, but alas, the "evil OP" already won.
  5. Yep. I don't think there's any excuse for the community to reply in trolling. Even if the OP's intent was bait (which it clearly wasn't) members should always keep level head on shoulders - then again, that's why we are not mods.
  6. I was the first one who said "No hand holding" because that goes hand in hand with designing the quests around not having to use a quest compass. And it does, simply. You can't really ask for one without the other and proceeding to act as if that somehow works doesn't make sense. If devs design a game around the thought in process of players not having to use the quest compass due to given infotmarion by npc's then why have the quest compass to begin with? Anyway, glad the game has one. Some players like myself don't want to spend much time learning the exact layout of the land, assuming that the map is large, quest compass is a must and quests being designed bkeakly for the reliance on the quest compass is more of a plus. I'm not looking for replayability, as in most games, I just want to finish once then uninstall and move on. So, it's really not much nonsense after all, just a good point of perspective that some here obviously do not agree with. There was nothing irrelevant about it, as all these things are connected. Oh well.
  7. The members on this forum be all like...
  8. What's REALLY worse? Someone making a thread asking if a game will atone for another by the same dev, or a group of people trying to make the op of a thread seem somehow delusional in a somewhat obsessive fashion? Why not just respect the OP and answer his question as if you were disappointed with Pillars? Even if you're not disappointed with Pillars, it would make much more sense to try to look at this through his eyes, rather than run him off the forums for merely nothing but then, that seems to be common in gaming forums as well. If members do not see something they like, circle up and crucify the said offensive poster and his posts! Burn him to the stake now, come on you lasses, do something useful with your lives for once!!!
  9. Consoles desereve an awesome box with some cool gifts, I reckon
  10. Most likely it will be able to be (dos)abled/disabled by HUD options, not sure why it wouldn't be?
  11. What? Like the pawns system in Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen? That's kinda like what it sounds like to me...
  12. Were they really that integral though? Or was the story just moving through them to make us feel like they were. On the "important" romance options, it changed nothing, it just gave us a 10 second dirty scene and maybe a few lines of dialogue. None of the romances truly affected the story, but we have to play twice to realize that. So we can say that story-writers have just become great at tricking gamers into thinking the plot thickened somehow - no pun intended. Skyrim may have had no effort but the end result was the same. The effort to make a romance seem like it matters (even though it doesn't) goes a long way. Josh Sawyer made a great point about this years ago, I wish I could find the exact quote. Maybe Boereor will call me out on it and find it
  13. Mind if we make it Bruce just to keep it clear?Boeoer is Volorun, I am BruceVC. You are Oby. Everyone is Nazi!!!
  14. I thought it was supposed to be a full-length campaign with some mp thrown in to boot. If it's just a few hours, that would be terrible.
  15. The more I look, the more I sigh. I can only sigh so much til I run out of ozygen and die (I'm sure some peeps on thr forum would like that actually). I wonder why it's priced only at $40.00, it tells me that they're not too confident in their product, or maybe it's becausr post-apocalyptic is the prevalent genre f 2019 that they think they can't compete. Either way, I just hate that everything is covered in crimson clovers, blossum and Daffy Duck daffodils. It makes the game look odd to me. It's just an odd choice and as someone who likes the Far Cry franchise, this one just feels disconnected for a number of reasons. I'm sure some peeps will buy it but a hard pass for me - and that's not a good type of hard!
  16. For me, it's this, Cyberpunk 2077, Sekiro and Rage 2. So far...
  17. It's the Fallout we always wanted!
  18. Welcome back! I hope nobody drives you off this time. I rarely get into disagreements with people on this forum but when I do, I usually find somethimg in common with them so it's rewarding to stay. However, that's if both parties can handle a disagreement without blocking one another hehe I believe The Outer Worlds will make up for Pillars' shortcomings because they are nearly polar opposites in vision and quality of focus. So I say YES!
  19. Dumb enough to be able to read and write, not dumb enough to always worry about strategy. Let's say "charismatic dumb".
  20. Exactly, especially when user reviews state the exact opposite (they seem to find the optimization good). I fear this may be more a case of "I'll find a few negative reviews that complain about optimization and place that as a vast majority". That's just not how things work. Or maybe they personally had bad experiences, who knows. That's exactly why I rule out any argument with system requirements, pc's can be touchy and you never know what dirtyness someone has on their pc that could affect other apps (anti-virus, xxx, virus, etc). All this renders the negotiable usless with a strong manner of debris. Aside from that, isolated issues are often blown to proportion, there's never been widespread optimization issues, and none that created a bad launch. Then there's the fact that first party Microsoft games are still being put on Steam, this isn't any different from CDPR choosing Steam over GoG. And if we want to speak "fact", factually all the games have good to great reviews by the users on Steam, I'm not going to copy & paste but anyone is welcome to search the user reviews on Steam which is a simple process.
  21. Kill camera indeed! The stupid Vats turn-based-esque crap has been replaced by a useful bullet-time system much like Horizon: Zero Dawn. Melee weapons remind me of stuff you'd see in Kingdoms Of Amular - flame scythes, acid hammers, cursed swords, etc. I agree with Gamestop that the combat seems a tad boring and dated. Not sure how I feel about success rates in the hands of survivalment of the crew/companions or lack thereof but we shall see. I love the ship, because it brings the Kotor 2 element. It feels exactly like Kotor 2 except it features an a.i that lwarns about your actions and converses accordingly. It's very Legends Of Tomorrow lol
  22. I'm a Sonic fan (old Sonic games, comics, shows) but hate the Sonic fanbase.
  23. It's quite the contrary, I've played too many games with romances, that's why I'd rather have none. It's not an issue with romances, it's how they're conducted and implemented into games. So before making yoyrself the "twit", next time, perhaps stop to think if there are other variables to consider (there always are). You probably don't even know that most Jrpgs and Visual Novels have romances, romances isn't "popular", it's just a bit overused in games without any real depth or purpose other than "satisfying a thirst". Shallow for devs to do, but we all know this is true. Maybe that's the joke with all these dating games popping up in recent years "Date My Daddy Simulator" and so on, yeah?
  24. Because online means monetization? That's honestly the only thing I can think of. Well, aside from the devs really liking the idea. Which is just weird, since the combat wasn't exactly considered Prey's strong point, which, imho, wasn't an issue with the single player experience (combat never bothered met at all anyway, personally). But if you turn it into a combat focused multiplayer DLC. Yeah, I don't know... Personally didn't much care for the last DLC either, which was rogue lite stuff. Almost makes it look like the DLC are just chasing hypes. As far as I know there's no single player, story driven, DLC planned at all so if anyone still has the game installed hoping for some story DLC, might as well free up some disk space and just hope we'll get a proper Prey 2. Yeah. They could have done so much better, it's a shame because I consider Prey to be one of the more unique FPS' in recent years, even more unique than Metro. It's a shame, a damn shame.... I'd like a proper sequel as well.
