  1. I love that, even if they are usually good for one playthrough. Soma was amazing to me as well, the game wasn't so much jump-scares but just that "what you don't see is scariest" type of thing. It was like a 6 hour game and $29.99 at launch, I'll probably never play it again but it was so worth it :D On the other side of the coin, I didn't like Outlast, I got it for $4.99 and refunded it. Something about the game was giving me a headache. Not sure if it was the color pallette but I never got to actually finish it, regretfully.
  2. Necroposting and with good reason. I had this song stuck in my head all day today.... Classic!
  3. Why? I mean... Music is just as important in gaming as it is in any other media. I've played 45 min so far and from what I can tell, the narration and voice acting is what will make it good for me. I'm okay with horror if it's done right, I loved The Evil Within and I'm getting the vibe of that from Alan Wake mixed with some Max Payne stylised drama. None of which is bad in my world.
  4. I love Ubi games though, well most of their franchises anyways. Far Cry is a great one, Rayman is another. I can't really complain about any of the mechanics as they did a great job of incorporating rpg elements within an fps game which nobody else has done before them. For ex. Leveling up with tattoos to give you new abilities and such, collecting plants and herbs to craft. I really hope stuff like that doesn't change. The one Far Cry that I had a problem with was Primal... it just felt wrong and I probably will never own it because I am disappointed that much in the direction that they went in. I think RDR2 will be good, I'm sure it will sell like crazy but I'm not sure it will be as good as the first one though. Even if it's not, I'm sure Rockstar fanboys will exaggerate praise for it. Far Cry: West on the other hand will get lots of hate Im sure, just because its Far Cry and even though they're generally great games, they will get thrown to the wolves but at least it will be something new though... even if it's the "same old" formula, let's face it, there hasn't exactly been a game like Far Cry set in the west and tbh I'm pretty excited about how that could turn out. Aside from that, Far Cry games are among the best "story -written" ahooters out there. So, I'm hoping to be able to assemble and customize revolvers in Far Cry: West (yes, that's what I'm calling it for now). There's alot of potential and Ubisoft usually does pretty well with Far Cry games and the dlc for them as well.
  5. They were a joke... I always thought almost everything about Kotor 2 was better than the first. I've never heard of Kotor 2 being a spiritual successor to Planescape: Torment so that's new to me. I guess I have a modern way of looking at Kotor 1 ans Kotor 2. The first Kotor is like Fallout 3 while Kotor 2 is more like New Vegas. I think that's a safe way to put it anyway.
  6. Well, I am probably going to have time for 1 open-world western game and if that's the case then I'll definitely go with RDR 2. I'm going to have to save up... I love Far Cry games in general - well except fo Primal. And I love RDR lol
  7. It's going to be interesting to see how development takes shape. I'll be watching from afar but probably not following its every move.
  8. So... Now that Ys franchise is 30 years old (that's right THIRTY!) I felt it only right to celebrate this on the forums with a dedicated thread. This niche game series deserved at least that! Ys ~To Me~ is Jrpg perfection. Ys games have always kept things simple and very accessible to the player, the games are not easy, they're hard to master but anyone can jump in and play them and in any order as well - even though the games feature the same protagonist (except Origin of course). - The games' soundtracks are top-notch and highly regarded by the community to being some of the best in the gaming industry. Falcom has an awesome in-house band of studio musicians that records a fusion of hard rock and classical overtones. Check out this track to see what the hype is about and decide for yourself: - The real-time combat is addicting, it's punishing but very rewarding as well. It's just polished and feels great. Hack and slalsh combat but with elements of bullet hell and challenging patterns but it forgiving since you lose nothing if you die. All the games are pretty linear and shorter than your modern Jrpg game (the average Ys game is around 15 hours, I think? The longest one is about 30 hours) but still, Ys games are very focused and well crafted, which makes up for the shorter playtime. And so this post won't be a "Shill" posting, I'll even post the problems that people have with Ys.... If there's one common complaint about the newer Ys games before the 8th iteration, it's that the art style is too "generic". While I kinda agree to an extent, at least the environments and characters are nice to look at. I enjoy the sprites but I am a fan of sprite work to begin with. Some people consider Ys to be a Zelda clone on Steroids. While I can see the definite similarities, I think Ys has far more polished gameplay mechanics and combat but it will never match the legacy of Zelda, sadly. If we are comparing it to Zelda, I feel like Ys really takes the core action of Zelda and turns it up to 11. Have YOU played a Ys game? What was your experience? If you're a fan, which is your favorite? In your opinion, how does Ys compare to other Jrpg/Rpg's? To learn more about the Ys series, visit: www.digitalemelas.com/m.index.php
  9. There's a bug that occasionally fires on my PC where the first word or two of dialogue is skipped. It's extremely annoying when it happens, but thankfully seems to be rare. True. http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/85015-voice-over-dialog-in-shreds/ Lol That's crazy!
  10. Same, usually for very small reasons for me also. I'm not a graphics whore but if something doesn't look visually appealing to me, I won't bother... I love pixel art, hand drawn and cel-shading. I'm actually pretty lenient on graphics. Another thing is the characters, if I don't like the designs or the personalities then I might never have any interest in the game. Bad soundtracks can be another thing. I love a good soundtrack - and this is a newer thing that has become a make or break for me. I never really cared about how good the soundtrack of a game is until I played games like Brigador and Ys. I'm old so I've become more picky I guess lol
  11. Or half sentences lol Let's take the extra step and have all the action music looping during converaations and then in battles have no music at all
  12. Same with Hollow Knight... people are calling it a masterpiece but I think it has some flaws which fans are quick to deny. It's a phenomenal Metroidvania with awesome hand drawn graphic and addicting combat but the lore is iffy, generic at best. The voice acting (what very little) is cure but meh. The platforming can be fun or frustrating and lastly the backtracking is crazy - even with the fast travel beetle function... the open world is such a huge place that it can be daunting. Even for someone familiar with it. As far as Owlboy, I haven't played it yet but I want to. I loke the color palette but the main character isn't appealing to me for some reason (maybe why I haven't bought it yet) if the main character doesn't grab my attention, I tend to wait on the game longer. Hopefully that doesn't sound shallow on my behalf.
  13. The video is very touching... grab a kleenex for tears or something else. It's just so beautiful :'-)

  14. I don't take anyone's "personal" opinion as fact. You can say that a game is bad, someone else out there in the world will love that game. In fact, (and it is a fact) we've all played and loved at least one game in our lives, that most of the gaming community has perceived as bad. A company putting out bad games or "ruining" franchises doesn't make the company bad or evil, it means the company did something wrong, made wrong decisions and needs to learn and grow from that. Unfortunately, sometimes that doesn't happen and conpanies still keep making the same mistakes, that still doesn't make them bad/evil or even stupid by any means. They are smart people who are human and are not perfect. Somehow this generation has gotten too confused along the way to know the difference, especially if people think that a company will maliciously release bad products to hurt or kill off a fan-base, then I'm not too sure what to think about this generations ethics on business...
  15. THIS. That is correct.. There is no such thing as an "evil" company in the gaming industry. That's just a paranoid mindset that the community has made up because people are angry when things do not go their way. I have seen the term "Evil corporation" often on Steam forums. I know people can and have given me many reasons why they "think" evil companies exist within the gaming industry but none of them have been really valid outside of bias, personal feelings or grudges getting involved. On the outside of that it's business, whether it's ridiculous dlc or whatever, it's as is, a choice for people to make. Vote with thy wallet and stuff.
  16. Me too. At least 2 platforms (pc and a console). I don't think Switch has a chance at getting Hitman - at least not a newer one, maybe Absolution. I hope I don't jinx it but I can just see someone like NaughtyDog or Guerilla making Hitman. While it would probably be astounding and I know they would do justice, it would only be PS4
  17. I've just started and I really enjoyes what little I've played so far. I think there's a movie out there that was before Twin Peaks which is even closer although I can't for the life of me remember it. If I find it, I'll post it here.
  18. I have to ask though - Were the games really that bad? Or was this more of something like the community saying "Wow... they changed the game to the point where it's no longer what it should have been?" Most of the time when it comes to franchises with a niche audience, it's usually the latter which drive the ratings down. Sorry if it sounds like I'm defending Ubi, they're definitely not my favorite pub/dev but I do enjoy the games they put out.
  19. Games like Might & Magic would have been ruined (changed from what audience percieved them) regardless of which publisher. I think it's safe to say that it would have been dissapointing in fan's eyes even if it was a crowdfunded indie just because it's hard to translate something like M&M for a modern gen. As far as a indie publisher, I think they are leagues ahead of most other publishers which is why I will continue to support them. When I look at the lost of indie titles published by Ubi, I can't help but be greatful as they are all decent titles, especially Children Of Anteria which is an awesome game regardless of people hating on it for not being a new Settlers game. https://www.giantbomb.com/ubisoft-entertainment/3010-82/published/ My friends, do you concur?
  20. Tbh, I'd rather have Sega attempt sequels than to keep doing re-releases and remasters. Sonic Generations was amazing and proves that Sega can do fusions properly. Ecco on Dreamcast and Jet Set Radio Future on Xbox are proof that Sega can do perfect sequels of the effort is there. They just need to focus on their best franchises. Forget Sonic and Bayonetta and do another Space Channel 5 and such. Get creative, take risks, etc. If anyone can do good sequels, it's Sega (both as a dev and a pub). The list of Sega sequels that are great vastly out-number those that are bad. They may be harder to spot because they don't have numbers 1, 2, etc. but they are there - usually jumping on different consoles.
  21. Hmm... I love my Ubisoft games. Rayman Legends is still the best platformer I've ever played. Far Cry 3, 4 and Blood Dragon are the only FPS to interest me. Beyomd Good and Evil was amazing. Watch Dogs had a better written campaign than GTA5 and Red Dead. uPlay is great for a free game every once and awhile and rewards players with dlc. Edit: Also I don't think Ubisoft has ever "ruined" a franchise.
  22. To be fair I think we all saw this coming.... Bioware is like the opposite of Obsidian in pretty much every way. And yes, while I'm old enough to remember Origin Systems but I never cared to acknowledge them (Sorry). The Know is a great news source btw. They are pretty much the only gaming news channel I watch frequently.
  23. I bought Alan Wake and The New Nightmare but haven't tried it. Maybe tomorrow (Getting too late for tonight). Still can't believe it went down from $50.00 to $4.00 lol -For the bumdle I mean.
