  1. Latest polls show that the newest wave of attack ads from the RNC might be effective enough to get the Republicans both houses of Congress next in November, as opposed to one. God, this country.
  2. Heh, n/p. That dossier (containing the fraudelent extra images) was sent out in December. The original illustrations were published in September. The conflict should have never lasted that long. Had the gov't or the paper addressed the problem, it might never had escalated to that point. That's not saying that the **** wouldn't have hit the fan anyway. The entire thing could have been entirely avoided had the paper recognized that muslims would be affronted by the images and excercised a little caution, which was my original point. Even if the original images were harmless, they were a big "**** you" to muslims, and they opened the door to the heinous misrepresentations in the dossier. The freedom of the press is important, but the press has to be responsible in turn. Especially after the first publication of the illustrations, they were continually published in several countries for no other reason than they "had the right to".
  3. I saw them all, and yes, most of them were pretty innocuous, except for the one where he's flanked by burka-clad women and brandishing a sword. This seems to be the picture that the ME seemed to be pissed about, in particular. As for the deportation of the artists, that would be hypocritical of the Danish gov't, as they refused to stop the Danish artists from releasing their illustrations on "free speech" grounds. Punishing another artist for excercising the same right isn't consistent.
  4. Jon Stewart = Calls Scarborough a douchebag. Stephen Colbert = Calls Scarborough a retard. Joe Scarborough = Denounces Jon Stewart, loves Stephen Colbert. You're right, it makes perfect sense!
  5. I didn't know Stewart extended the douche bag status to Scarborough It is kind of surprising, since Scarborough professes to "like" Stephen Colbert. How can you like one and not the other? They practically do the same thing. Except Colbert called Scarborborough a retard on air wierd.
  6. So it's not the papers fault for creating the toons, it's the extremists fault for using the toons the paper created.
  7. Wipe the froth from your mouth, "idiot". The drawings were commissioned by the Jyllands-Posten in Copenhagen.
  8. Because if you disagree with something (say, religion in general), people like to talk about the negative things about it as it will reaffirm why they don't like it. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It doesn't necessarily follow that these kinds of conflicts would cease to exist if religion is taken out of the picture. Man is not evil because of religion, religion is evil because of man. Colrom has good points. The Pope no longer has the credibility most people seem to assume he has. The Pope is not Christianity. His brand of strict thomism isn't held anywhere outside Vatican City. Besides, Ratzinger is a tremendous ****, even as popes go. "Yes, I am sure that that is exactly what the artists were thinking." It was, actually. The cartoons continued to be printed after peaceful protests and being asked to stop. That's when the violence started. The publishers had the opportunity to stop it, any sane person could have seen what was going to happen, and yet they didn't. Free speech one, Danes zero.
  9. 1 3 4 14 17 18 19 20 22 24 29 31 32 33 41 42
  10. Is this MSNBC anchor, by chance, Tucker Carlson? *edit - No one should be surprised by this.
  11. "Many Christians were enraged by this yet not one building burned down. Wierd that." Are you making the point I think you're making with that statement, and if so, are you retarded? "Really I'm not, the only thing that sometimes bothers me is that the superior one automaticley thinks he's enlightning and virtous when in fact he's primitive and raw just like the ones beaten on the ground, the so called enemies of the free world, etc." But is this inextricably linked to organized religion, christianity, islam, etc. as is the general gist of some of the arguments I've read? I don't think it is. Communist China were just as savage in their zeal to be a completely atheist state. "Nowadays wars are not about manpower. It is about weapons, and western world is superior with their arsenal and high-tech" Donald Rumsfeld thought the same thing, and he's losing his war. Bombs don't win wars, unless you're using nuclear bombs, which is psychotic. why does everyone here believe the violent reactions to the Danish comics to be indicative of the greater muslim faith? Why are people here willing to make value judgements about a religion while dismissing their tenets?
  12. ""Jesus is a second order prophet to the Muslims, as well. To a non-arab nationalist muslim, insulting Jesus is just as heinous as insulting the prophet. " Really? There's no proof of this." ... Have you read the Quran?
  13. Not really. Jesus is a second order prophet to the Muslims, as well. To a non-arab nationalist muslim, insulting Jesus is just as heinous as insulting the prophet.
  14. Somebody may have to create a "good day" thread.
  15. I can't help it the real F3!
  16. I would die a happy man if Obsidian got ahold of Van Buren again.
  17. I'm deprived of any cRPGs at the moment, so I'm left with the husk of Van Buren. I feel like I'm being taunted, because I'm fairly certain that I suck at DMing and I'm going to do a disservice to this material. I just can't seem to get anything right. I have all these great (?) ideas, but I can't implement them where or when I want! And how much of an idiot would I be to aspire to become a game designer?
  18. I don't see it working. Transformers is likely to get mangled at the cinema, and the series itself doesn't seem to be in the BIS/Obsidian style. It's also not clear if the NWN2 engine would be able to handle the outlandish models a Transformers game would require. Think of the vertices! IBL!
  19. One upside to a console as opposed to a computer is that you never have to worry about your system not being up to specs. It costs only slightly less to upgrade your computer to high Oblivion specs ($200 vid card, $100 more RAM, at least) than it would be to get a 360. The downsides, however, are pretty numerous. Controller issues, patching and extra content. Things like that.
  20. Has there ever been a "non-traditional" RPG released for Nintendo systems?
  21. I'm surprised no one's mentioned Burntfaceman yet. Or any of David Firth's other absurdist toons.
  22. Dead Rising, even with its faults (in particular, the patience-testing time and saving systems) was probably the best 360 game released thus far. All the other much-touted games to come out for the 360, PDZ and Oblivion, were terrible and interesting, respectively. Most people are willing to dismiss sports games, but Fight Night Round 3 on an HDTV was really something else (fun game, too) Still, after a year, you'd expect them to have more good games than this. Seems like a foregone conclusion to most that the PS3 and Wii will outperform the 360, but I think it's just more resentment towards Microsoft than anything. The 360 is by no means a bad system.
  23. B.O.M.B.-001! w00t!
  24. The main reason most people I know will buy a PS3 is MGS4, with Final Fantasy a distant second. I tell them that they are idiots, because those games just simply aren't enough to justify $600, especially when Blu-Ray hasn't become a well-established format yet. As for Nintendo, it has Mario and all of its spinoffs, Metroid, Zelda, and Capcom's stable, none of which I was ever a big fan of. The only reason I would consider a Wii is for Sega's stable.
  25. It's a small country with a LOT of economic clout. Perhaps the quality of living has less to do with the government and more with the economic system they use. ANYWAY, I was hoping to have a little discourse about cultural relativism, maybe tie it to the war, but NO. Doesn't seem like anybody is willing to cross over to the dark side (normative relativism) anyway.
