Nope, I still dont like MMO's
Yeah, I know a lot of people who love games like Animal Crossing, which I don't believe has any death in it. Secondlife also draws some people, but I think it's boring, and it's got some serious security issues. I read an academic paper a few years ago about how the Everquest world was technically the 74th(?) weathiest nation on Earth. That was before WoW came in and dominated MMOs.

What are you playing now?
I thought they did a serviceable job. Have you guys played an epic level PnP D&D campaign? It's incredibly difficult to DM, because a 40th level barbarian will smoke anything, and they're insanely hard to kill without resorting to dirty tricks. I had to send my players through a dozen elder shadow dragons at once to get them to die. There was no suspense at all. By comparison, ToB can be pretty challenging, especially if you're playing a spellcaster. I also like it because it was a fittingly epic ending to the Bhaalspawn series :D

Teleportation
"But surely the teleporter is the most convenient way of traveling. You will simply appear wherever you wanted to be. In fact, given that the machine works without error you are in greater risk of dying in an accident when you use more conventional methods. Why, then, wouldn't you prefer the teleporter?" If the machine works without error, not doing any bodily or psychological harm to its subject, then the issue of whether or not to use it becomes one of preference, and thus the thrust of the question is lost. If a person is "copied" and the original person's physical body is destroyed, then it would be argued that the machine isn't without error. If we can prove, through observation (probably commencing over many decades) that the person coming out is indeed the physical, emotional, and psychological clone of the person going in, perhaps there would be some lifting of the stigma surrounding the tech. The metaphysical concerns brought up would then be relegated to philosophers and clergymen. This is all assuming that the person coming out of the machine doesn't develop schizophrenia, in which case that would be very Philip K. **** (bah!). But even all of that is assuming that the machine works without a hitch, and there are several physical impossibilities attached to such a machine. It could possibly break the second law of thermodynamics. Plus, if you're destroying something in one place and remaking it in another, you're essentially creating something out of nothing. Once you get past that, you'll probably encounter poblems with the finished product, possibly damage to one's DNA not unlike an actual clone, whose cells degenerate at a greater rate than normal.

Teleportation
This sounds pretty similar to the process posited in Micheal Crichton's Timeline. Except in that case the "teleportation" was time-travel related and destroyed the original copy of the object to be teleported. That having been said, without a good reason (ie the world is blowing up if I can't press a button in Singapore in an hour) it's simply a matter of convenience, in which case I'll just take my chances on a plane, or in a car. Is there, in fact, a point to this excercise in judgement?

Movies You Have Seen Lately
I kind of like the book better, David Fincher's direction relies on a lot of flashy CG (Chuck's dialogue is what makes the movie good, imo) but Chuck's come out and said that he prefers the movie's ending. I agree, the Christ parable turn the book took at the end was kind of weird. Interesting aside: If you send Chuck Palahnuik a fan letter, he will send you something back (when he gets to you) I watched Fog of War. Twas good.

no no, think of the mods. If they make it moddable. I keep thinking how a SPECIAL-esque perk system could spice things up.

Apparently this guy saw the script. I'm going to go huddle in a corner.

What are you playing now?
Oblivion should run fine on your machine. It runs adequately on my 2.7 ghz, 1 gig RAM, 6600oc machine at 1024x768. That's after the graphic tweak mods, too. As for new games.... there really aren't that many new ones that I dig, personally. When I need a new game I usually check out old games. I've recently been playing a lot of odd Sega RPGs on my emulator.

How bad was your day?
Working at Taco Bell is worse. If a customer doesn't like what they got, they can force you to eat it. On the other hand, if you work at 7/11 you can deny service to anyone for no reason at all (although corporate would prefer an explanation if the customer complains) the best way to do this is to argue with them until they swear. At 7/11, use of profanity is just cause to kick someone out of your store.

Dead Rising
Adam the clown is in wonderland plaza, which is the western part of the mall. The spaceship ride that rolls around is out of control, and if you try and turn it off he'll show up. I went at him with a hunting knife, which is a common weapon a lot of zombies hold. It's fast enough that he can't defend himself when he recoils from a hit. I was able to just hit him once and then slice him to death while he was sitting there. That works for quite a few of the psychos, actually. In the paradise plaza (just outside the warehouse on the East end) there are 2 bookstores. One of them is small, and it has a hardware book. There's a larger bookstore that has a blade book, which you can also use. The third book (survival) you have to earn by beating the Hatchet Man vietnam psycho at the north end of the mall. Really, the 2 books should keep you pretty much set, but having all 3 makes you unstoppable.

Oblivion
Hmm Broad speculation puts F3 at the "first playable alpha" stage. If that's the case, it's still far from completion, especially if they plan to make the game as expansive as TES games.

Dead Rising
Yeah, it's different. If you save the guy Adam the Clown is holding captive, he'll open a two-way shortcut from paradise plaza to wonderland plaza. You jump onto the women's bathroom counter and use an "invisible door" It only works if you save the dude, though. It's hella nifty for getting from the south/east end of the plaza to the north/west end. It really does cut back on travel time considerably, and you can bring people through it. I must have saved over 10 people that way.

Dead Rising
In a nutshell, I beat the game by losing (in fact, there are several endings depending on how you play the game) I don't know how anyone would be able to win the first time around. You really have to save as many people as possible your first game, level up around 15, and then when you inevitably run out of time, you start the game again at level 15. Beat Adam the clown, get his chainsaws and the blade, hardware and survival books (the chainsaws last x33 times as long, and they respawn) and save the guy he was harrassing, and you'll get an invaluable inter-bathroom shortcut. The chainsaws will beat anything, if you're fast enough. Once you get the shortcut, you can manage to avoid the psychos in the truck altogether.

Oblivion
Todd Howard had said that the vast majority of Bethesda was working on F3, with some other people working on supplementary material for Oblivion, but I had always assumed that they meant things like the "expansion" content (frostcrag spire, etc.) you could download. I'd be very surprised if they managed to create a whole new map, or something of the like.

Bush uses 9/11 to Justify Iraq War
It is, but to absolutely fair, his executive decisions concerning the war haven't been exactly smart. Most of those track back, at least indirectly, to the influence of Donald Rumsfeld.

How bad was your day?
I am aware that this is generally a gaming forum, but this is also a "community", as some will say, and I personally believe that if we are truly a community, we will excercise our capacity to air concerns and anxieties with a willing and engaged listener. Thus, I have taken it upon myself (after much deliberation) to create this thread, so that we might come together as a community and support one another, in a spirit of fellowship. I may be a relative n00b, but still, maybe this place could benefit from a little bit of teh emo. Srsly. In essence, just come here and talk about what pissed you off recently, or how ****ed your day was, or what frustrates you. Could be something minor, like losing a few bucks or missing an appointment, or something pretty big, like the disintregation of a relationship, or losing a job. Maybe you stepped on a nail. Maybe you left your windows open during a rainstorm. Maybe that game that you were waiting so long for and wanted so bad, got axed by a blundering parent company, and your favorite developer house got demolished. Whatever, somebody can probably relate. Open up a bit, maybe people will weigh in a bit. That's ultimately what I'd hope to accomplish with this thread and its wordy introduction. Because if there's anything any forum needs, it's a touchy-feely, support group atmosphere Seriously, I'm going out on a limb here. This thing could sink or swim, it all depends on whether or not you guys are willing to share. ****ty things happen every day to everyone, and it probably helps one's disposition to talk about it with people, through the wondrous mask of the internets! If you've got something to say, say it. There should be plenty of room here for multiple accounts of woe. I suppose I'd better practice what I preach, so I'll start it off by saying that I'm 20 years old, and lately I can't seem to keep my affairs in order like a man of my age should ostensibly do. I'm missing appointments, I'm behind a week or two in college, and I haven't got a job. Today, I bombed an Ethics quiz. I'm getting pretty tired of living the life.

Dead Rising
This is a difficult game, but it was always fun. Even when you realized that you're doing the same thing over and over again, you still want to play it. I was skeptical at first, but this game really exceeded my expectations. Capcom's got another legacy to cultivate.

THis is my new favorite youtube video
Oh Man that was unbelievably gay. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Gay? He Man? The superhero with "fabulous secret powers", who goes around grasping magic wands and straddling rockets? The one with the sidekicks named "Ram Man" and "Fisto"? You don't say Some choice lines from the show: "I'd like to hear more about this hooded seed-man of yours!" "I feel the bony finger of Skeletor!" "Your assistance is required on Snake Mountain!" Speaking of He Man, if you like the Coen Brothers, you'll dig this. I also cultivated some good Youtubes: I put my pants on one leg at a time, just like the rest of you. Except when I put my pants on, I make gold records. TV edit of the Big Lebowski car-smashing scene. Listen for the change. My favourite Youtube ever. The greatest rock band in the world.

Dreamcast turns 7 today
That was part of it. It was just blocky, you had to hold it like an open book instead of a controller (that is, your palms face more upward than downward), and the cord ran out of the bottom instead of the top. The Xbox controller is more a descendant of the original Sega controller, which was well-designed.

I did too. Micheal Moore still makes a mockery of his craft. " at least now he does. Roger & Me was certainly his best. I guess it's not really a "movie", per se, but I'm preparing to watch seasons 3-5 of the Shield. Not all tonight, of course, but in due time. Great show, can't wait for the next season.- Chinese foreign media filtering
