  1. I'd like to see them pursue more established IPs. I don't doubt that they'd rock their own IP, but I'd really like to see Obs tackle Vampire, just so I can know that the IP's not dead in the video game medium (I always loved the idea of Vampire, but I'm no LARPer) and they're not liable to do a bang-up job that will kill the IP. KOTOR3 via Mass Effect engine would amaze me, but it would be several years in the making. I don't give a bloody flying **** if they never do an original IP, or if they do nothing but original IPs (although I probably would not be interested in a generic fantasy world). I just want some good games. No high school plz. And didn't MCA say that post-apoc was out of the question?
  2. Doesn't make me any more excited about the game than I already was. This is going to be a slow, slow week.
  3. As in, Resevoir Dogs ripped off The Killing pretty liberally, in more ways than one.
  4. lol Descartes.
  5. I'm trying to get my friend into this game, but he can't seem to really master the stealth system, and it's killing the game for him. I'm going on and on about the story, but it means about **** if he can't play through to it. Uh, suggestions? I think it's FPS format, more than anything. He likes MGS a lot, but he just can't figure this one out.
  6. Jaheira's romance didn't much do it for me. You basically become ****-buddy adventurers. Whereas you actually get a couple of surprises with Aerie , and the entire dynamic with Viconia changes . Viconia makes it more of a fight than a courtship. It's the one I like the best, especially the epilogue.
  7. Kubrick's best work next to 2001. He made unique movies that made you think. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> 2001 I agree, but give mePaths of Glory Spartacus Lolita Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb A Clockwork Orange Full Metal Jacket (The first half anyway) over The Shinning any day. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Dont't forget The Killing. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Or Resevoir Dogs
  8. How can one even enjoy Final Fantasy? " But yes, I wouldn't play an RPG that gave me a completely random character. For example, I just don't play wizards well in PnP, and I wouldn't want to be one. I find it's much more rewarding to have them create their characters and then, if the players are RPers, put their characters into situations that keep them from being static. Where the choice they would naturally make is the choice they aren't given. If the roleplaying is good, then the character will evolve.
  9. It's not fair to dismiss this just yet. Eugenics has been around for the last century, having never really died with Mengele as it should have. But it's plausible, unfortunately. Gattaca-style trait selection in IVF is on the rise. Right now it's all about removing genes that increase risk for disease, but in China they're also weeding out female embryos at IVF clinics (arguably better than the infanticide generally practiced there) and selectively adding disabilities to fetuses (as in when deaf surrogate parents want a deaf child) What's to stop us, 10 years down the road when we can control prefferable physical traits? What's to stop those who can afford it from creating their children tall, with blonde hair and blue eyes? What rational argument can you give against doing that, being aesthetic choices as they are? Can you really say a genetically perfect human is the same as the rest of us?
  10. So why is it even an issue?
  11. If the list has no standard by which it measures the quality of the games, it has no value. Standards are necessary to make a list that is even remotely considerable. If the list is compiled via simple reader contributions, it has no value, it is arbitrary opinion. If they said Ocarina of Time is the best game ever because of superior sound mixing, narrative focus and clarity, etc., it would be more reasonable and acceptable, but even then the standards are subjective. The best way to do it would be to have pass-fail tests of quality. Does the plot follow a logical conclusion? Are there any game-crashing bugs? Does the main character blink? Are all aspects of the game necessary to its purpose (that is, is there a sudoku puzzle that you have to solve out there in the middle of a Doom-style shoot-em-up?) Relatively hard-to-dispute facts such as that. But then, taking into account every game ever made, a hierarchal order is just not feasible. Disregard this list, ye reasonable gaming fans!
  12. The Prestige. It was good. It wasn't amazing, it was dark but it wasn't terribly deep. The characters are supposed to be men that turn into monsters by obsession, but I was never really convinced they were men in the first place. You never see these guys as caring individuals. They're all emotionally distant type 1s, and as such when they start getting crazy and compromising their humanity it's not as horrifying as it seems the film is trying to make it out to be. Some people will find the plot to be a little convoluted, and the third act (aka the Prestige, heh) to be unsatisfying, but I liked it. Bowie was a nice touch, but he plays Tesla as a sane man, which he was definitely not IRL. If you like steampunk, you'll love this movie. Mmm-mmm Tesla Coils.
  13. I actually was not fond of JC's voice too straight-laced g-man. No affect.
  14. hehehe, never played through that particular romance. I couldn't stand Anomen at all. I probably should have put masculine female as a clarification
  15. AvP 2 was awesome. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I preffered the first one. Had a much better marine campaign. The second alien campaign was better, though. I have to download that again. I'd do that too, but I'm going through HotU instead.
  16. If you go for that domineering manly sort. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Better than the pussified flowergirls you're usually saddled with in RPGs, particularly jrpgs. I consider the fact that Bioware put a masculine love interest in BG a credit to the game, not a detriment. That having been said, all the love interests in BG are fundamentally feminine, as all the relationships are defined and controlled by the masculine PC. lol feminism.
  17. Who was expecting more than ****?
  18. Furry pic: Hahahahahahahaha, Hades. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That's harsh. I don't deserve that kind of comparison.
  19. Jaheira didn't seem really all that traumatized to me. She has a dream, then forgets about Khalid more or less for the rest of the romance.
  20. Getting back onto the topic of NWN2's prospective plot, I'm interested to see if the first game factored in to the story at all. I just started up a HotU game and Sharwyn talked about how the Hero of Neverwinter, whom she had fallen in love with at the time, apparently, left the city because of strife with Lord Nasher. I'd really, really like to see that explored. I know everybody hates the NWN OC, but I'd rather they focus on it a bit to give the game a little more history. I love a game with history.
  21. 51. The winner is me. I think it has to do with this "svchost" program, which replicates itself to 5 or 6 processes periodically for some reason. It's a local network service. None o' my warez detectors are flagging it as bad.
  22. I've got a list around here somewhere. I actually picked up a versus books guide when I bought ToB (the guide was free with the game) and I seem to recall it having a list of all the AR codes in the back. If no one has found a list in the next 10 hours I'll see what I can do about typing it up for you. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That'd be all smiles. What I'm really interested in, at the moment, are those three areas you have to go into to pass the Helmite Ghost's tests at the last level of the Keep, before Demogorgon's cell. As I recall, there's an orc onslaught room, a dragon room, and a room with an imp who gives riddles. Those are the ones I need thanks in advance.
  23. Ya know I'm pretty sure the game doesn't care about *you* either. So I guess the feelings are mutual then.... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Good. It knows where I am if it wants to apologize for being the suck.
  24. So just to clarify, since I haven't read any confirmations, has anybody been able to "port" NWN mod scripts and such into the NWN2 toolset? Or did they scrap that as well?
