  1. Have you played FO2???? A game made in 10 months, with a lot of the same crew working for Obsidian.
  2. Well in a good CRPG, like Arcanum, the race would have drastic effects on the game. For instance, just about everyone will treat you differently and quest can be solved differently.
  3. Honestly, if its early enough in development maybe they can change this. I am hoping that Obsidian breaks away from their bhaalspawn/master jedi formula, which you're character secretly is.
  4. Forcing me to play a jedi really hurt my ability to roleplay, because up until I became a jedi, I was trying to a play a character that hated Jedi's. Maybe I was naive, but I thought the jedi classes were balanced prestige classes, instead of just forcing me to change my occupation. Maybe this is just me, but I think there is a lot to explore out there, instead of just Jedi Black and white. So can allowing for non-jedi's be changed? And what about races? It wasn't a joke, I really love to play a different race. Obviously not all can be made to play, but the major ones such as wookie's, the two extremely common ones that were more ubiquitous then human and yoda's. I am looking for signs of things that will actually make this game a bit more interesting from a replayability standpoint. Well if its like KotOR, then every other person is a jedi. So just because my character is not a knight, if that even means jedi, doesn't mean their won't be any knights
  5. 1) I don't want to play a Jedi. I would rather play a roleplaying game that was firmly grounded in the Star Wars universe, that had Jedi's but that did not require me to be a jedi to complete it. I think their are many characters and personalities, which can be as equally fun as a jedi. From the good Star Wars movies, I would have rather have been Chewbacca, C3PO, Han Solo, or even lando over Luke. 2) I think playing a different race would be fun. I would love to play, whatever the hell you call yoda's!
  6. How about having a 3D environment that is actually interactive. I am sure that would go some way in fleshing out the game. But not as much as Pazaak of course... Yep, the only way you can ever solve anything important in a Bioware game. Hell they had to make the Sand People quest unimportant because that had a non-combat solution, hence why no dark, or light points were given. That is a joke BTW. Huh, what does this have to do with Mini-games. Do you believe KotOR was the first game to have gambling. Hell Fallout had a gambling skill, and yet no large resources were invested in making FO casino games, New Reno style... That is just stupid to suggest, that gambling should be put on hold because their are more important things you're character is doing. Talk about missing the point. Now you're talking storyline, you're all over the place. How could something be part of the storyline and still be optional? Hell they shouldn't even be part of the game, they should either be done implicitly, or not at all. That is what roleplaying is all about anyway. Swoop racing was just there so you can go through some bizarre set of quests rescuing a worthless jedi, and why the hell did I have to take the turrets their were 9 other people on that ship. Hell they should not make the mini games optional, they should remove them. Why are people so impressed with miniature games all done half-ass I'll will never know.
  7. It's going to be released on consoles. 'Nuff said, i believe. Most console games i hear about nowadays have some form of minigame as a gimmick. As if console games weren't short enough and watered down enough. You want to play a card game, look no further then the internet. The only game that had mini games worth a damn, was Ocarina of Time, and that was because they were integrated into the actual gameplay of the game.
  8. I thought all the mini-games sucked! Why would a developer waste time on stupid crap like that, when it could instead make the main product better? All those resources could have been spent making the combat better.
  9. I heard Quentin Tarantino say, during an interview, that american film goers have a hard time with the color red. And for that reason, he shot a lot of scenes that were kind of gory in black and white. Anyhow, maybe that is the reason?
  10. My take on Shakespeare movies is simple, adapt the play to film. I think Richard III with Ian, West Side Story, and RAN all have the right idea. What was great about Shakespeare is what you cover in Literature class, essentially the words. On film the infamous story should be told on a more grand scale. Agincourt should have been epic, but as someone pointed out, you can't fault a film for having a small budget.
  11. My sentiments exactly, except bigger picture. I think alot of people here, not everyone, believes that MCA and company can do to KotOR, what PS:T did to the IE engine. Make a good CRPG, that while did not the best combat, like KotOR, actually is dark, to some extent, more roleplaying-ish.
  12. The only one of I have seen, it had Kenneth Branagh. I realize its Shakespeare, but after watching RAN, I realized WOW Shakespeare's battles can be made to look gorgeous. Kurosawa's adaption of King Lear, had some of the most thematic battle scenes I have ever seen in a movie, it was absolutely amazing. Henry 5th, might as well actually taken place on a small wooden stage, its suppose to be epic, and with modern cinema, the Battle of Agencourt as well as the other battles deserved more. Smallest armies I have ever seen either. Again I point to RAN, thats how you do it right.
  13. What exactly does evil dwarven laughter sound like?
  14. The algorithms I have developed, definately have an AI aspect. In our office, we have people that can look at data, and get information out of it. Of course they are human and they know things. The hard part is to take that same data, and get the computer to make the same kind of distinctions from it as the human could do. It may sound easy, but its not, and its a whole lot fun. Good luck with your studies!
  15. That is one of the reasons I liked physics. It too, was very theoretical, and completely academic with no real world applications. However, what it did teach you was how to deal with very complicated problems analytically. I chose to go in the theoretical/computational direction, and having never taken one programming class except for a numerical class that used C, probably left knowing more about programming then most CS majors in UCI. And I completely agree, that it is probably better, to have a more general background then a specific background. Especially, since people deciding to go to college are fairly young, and really might find out that there are many jobs and areas that can be just as fun as video game programming. Although, if I had to work the video game industry I wouldn't want to a programmer. Design all the way! Still while I think the NSF and the government continually waste money on physics research, mainly particle physics and cosmology, I think physics is one of the greatest degrees. It teaches intangible skills of being able to solve problems, as well as the ability to do stuff with computers comparable with a CS major. Not to mention the jobs available for physics major range from wall street to music. Heck the biggest computer project at UCI, was with a professor who was doing quantum gravity on a lattice. At the time he had the largest cluster in Orange County. Anyhow with a physics major, and math as well, you're options are pretty damn large. Right now I work on a software application, and the team consist of a math guy, a nuclear engineer, a physicist and an electical engineer. No CS people and we do all sorts of k3wl software stuff.
  16. For what its worth, if you can get into a UC, such as UCI, I highly recommend it, not just because that is where I went either. Just about all the UC's are prestigous, with UCI being in the Top 50. I guess some people might want to think long term at a very dynamic gaming community. And having a degree from a UC school can be very beneficial if you ever entertain the idea of doing something different, or for whatever reason are forced to change careers. However, it can be very competitive. I guess at that point, experience matters more then the degree, but just a counter opinion. Selecting University should not be something someone takes lightly. I fell into that problem, and probably and found it very difficult getting into a good graduate school. As for USC, which someone else mentioned. If you want to work in the LA vicinity, USC is the way to go. There are a lot of USC alumni in hiring positions around the city of LA.
  17. OK, I guess... I guess I have not seen him fly off the handle, if that's a saying.
  18. Yeah, instead of doing one thing right, they chose to do many things badly. BTW, Sheriff is a nice guy too. You guys are quick to judge.
  19. ;_; reminds me of the autobot insignia from the transformers.
  20. Hardly, although I got in a hissy fit today, when someone accused me of being unamerican. Obviously, a fascist. Rosh, is really a nice person BTW, you just need to get to know him.
  21. Visciris is and has been Doom-Sayer, Hector Syr and I imagine he is also Hades One, which mentioned something in regards to iowa. Only if I could free those brain registers, which house useless information.
  22. They don't have time to make KotOR2 on another engine. It will be same o lame o. They may have not time, but it would have to be a step up.
  23. There is a vertical axis, they just chose not to utilize it. I render two dimensional stuff all the time in OpenGL, and choose a viewport, modelview and projection in such a way that 3D appears to be 2D. And it just not a rendering, modeling issue either, it just the fact that the engine is capable of nothing when it comes to physics. Yeah, the engine was pretty weak. I also remember when NWN came out, and I went to the BIo-Boards for the last time, to say what the hell, there are no hills, just ramps, and the maps... err arcade levels are enclosed in by ugly cardboard textures. It was prehistoric, considering how much more realistic everything in Morrowind looked, which came out earlier, which also had a easy to use toolkit.
  24. I liked it much more then XCOM. What puts JA2 above the rest IMO is its style. Its a game that definately had a lot of it. It had a limited scope and everything that it tried to do, it did well. From the strategy aspect, to the financial aspect all the way to the tactical combat aspect. Couple this with its gritty dialogue and B-Movie Merc'i'ness and the end result was a superve game. I really can't say this about any other game, which I thought was just perfect, except for maybe Fallout... Other games that I really really really really like, have serious faults, JA2 and FO, IMO are close to faultless, one of the reasons I like them so much.
