  1. I really do believe JA3 will be profitable. The game is small and scope, at least compared to the Wizardry games and does not need a very big crew. Well at least this was the case for JA2. Also, there are people like me who claim it might be the best game ever made. You just can't beat advertising like that.
  2. Kind of like the Ottoman Empire.
  3. Thats partially true though this goes all the way back to the Fargo days anyway. Interplay never made what you would call blockbuster games. They just made a lot of games overall. Of course lots of games with lower turn over means higher overheads. Brian Fargo put the initial problem down to missing the boat when it came to the popularity of console titles. Probably some truth in that. Brian Fargo is the one who initially put IPLY down the console road. Fargo screwed up IMO by buying a crapload of licenses he could pay for as well. And he is doing to samething again with InXile. What does he do, he reaqcuires the Bard Tale license only to call it a BGDA clone. Hell you can make any stupid game and call it a clone of another. He also buys back the rights to Wasteland, and he will probably call that a FOBOS clone. Nothing like spending a whole lot of money for a fledgling company. But he won't really be Fargo unless he does it on plastic.
  4. Do you have any official sales figures that you can link to? Most games that don't do well in the sales department don't get expansion packs, which tend to sell a whole lot worse.
  5. This drove me insane. How to make you're game feel fake, 101. It wouldn't have been so bad if you couldn't jump 10 feet in the air when watching the combat.
  6. JA3 will be Turn Based. Saw it on a thread at the forums and on the Codex.
  7. A JA3 in RT would deeply sadden me considering how fun and addictive the JA2 mechanics were as well as the incredible pacing. I would however, make a more intuitive interface.
  8. Which one is it? I don't necessarily think that these things are mutually exclusive. Is it not possible to give a person free will, and then god determines their fate based on their decisions? Why do judgements need to be done before a person has actually lived?
  9. Actually it doesn't. And who is saying that evolution doesn't happen. The only wrong with evolution is Darwin's flawed theory.
  10. Yeah, but the whole "you should only worship me", came from the exodus of Egypt, an obviously polytheistic state. Which, indicates the acceptance of other gods, you're just not allowed to worship them. Hence, I don't know if Christianity, obviously based off of judaism, was originally monotheistic, or if that was one of the things latered tacked on by the Europeans, or romans, which were also even after Constanstine polytheistic.
  11. Oh, I thought it had a more historical reason. For instance, the jews, which were in Egypt, were exposed to other gods. However, it would be a sin to worship that god. I guess its all semantics really, because the GOD, would claim be the only god. I understand the way the church handles all their entities. But Christianity is a religion based on Jesus, and only historically on God, right? Where Jesus is a divine and human prophet of sorts, which added the more important half to the bible, at least to christians. And I guess if you are islam, then Jesus was just another prophet to the same god, which predates THE PROPHET, which arrived sometime in the 8th century. OK I am rambling.
  12. Christianity is Polytheist right? You're just only allowed to worship one god? Anyhow, I think I am somewhere between a theist and an agnostic. One just needs to redefine the word deity to fit a more modern society. Whats interesting is how a lot of people try to tackle metaphyics without even understanding the nature of their own reality. Take Anselm, brilliant thinker, but lacked knowledge, which could detroy is arguments in a New York minute.
  13. This was pretty much the conclusion that I arrived at, and unfortunately stopped using it for this reason. Its nice as Qt is, it just doesn't make that much sense to pay for an object oriented GUI for what we're doing. And IMO that is really too bad since I really like it, and it would just be heaven to get away from X,Xt, Motif. Holy Crap I forgot to mention X toolkit intrinsics and Motif (which is just C) in my list. Two more baby... Wait, this is not a competition.
  14. I like Qt but their license agreement confuses me. I am a contractor, so I am never sure whether, or not I can use the Qt that comes free on my RH distribution without having to pay a license fee. I know on some of my analysis tools I can use it freely, because I am not selling anything, but I am not really sure if I have to license it when it is to be used for software that has been contracted, not necessarily sold.<_< Any info on that?
  15. Good point, but I would add stack programming in general.
  16. Adobe Postscript is based on Forth, so I was learning it concurrently with Postscript. I have never done anything official with Forth, just Postscript, but since Postscript was so wildely different then anything I have ever done at the time, I thought it was worth the time to go through it. I just consider it like one of those really out there languages, which really has no purpose other then job security. Postscript on the other hand I guess can be terribly useful, especially in the Unix/Linux world, which can be so heavily dependent on Postscript printers.
  17. My two degrees are in physics, so I am a bit embarassed to write this but here goes (Intel/Digital/Visual/GNU) C++/C/Fortran (includes Sockets and OpenGL), Forth/PostScript, HTML/XML, Python/Perl/Bash/SH, GNU Make, 16/32 bit asm. And I know a tiny little bit of Java and SQL too (or maybe I have just looked at it and my ego says I know it HeHe).
  18. I don't know anyone who says Blank has done blank And is only speaking their opinion. All 3D games are made of polygon primitives. One just hopes there is enough of them so that it does not look primitive. As far as the lego lookalike tiles, that is their own crappy design decision for compromising atmosphere and looks in favor an easy to use toolkit. Still looks aged...
  19. See the difference between us. YOU MADE A STATEMENT!! And how do you back up this universal law, So because you still play it, this universal law holds. BUT!!!!!!!! Its looks blocky -> Which is a sign of age.. Because it is a well know fact that the newer a games is the more likely it is to rely on more recent technology which allows you to have higher poly counts. But what about poly count? My radeon 9700 still has NWN looking blocky. Anyhow, I just said this, Where IMO = in my opinion, NOT YOU'RE OPINION! Don't act like the putz.
  20. Not to argue semantics, but BG1 was not made in a week. One of the main reasons I don't like BG to ToEE comparisons. BG1 was in development for over 3 years, and they had a working engine when they shipped the idea to IPLY. That is not to say that the budget was anywhere near NWN's, which was monumental. But IMO it was a pretty good game because all that time was spent on making a game. NWN the majority of time was spent on peripheals to the game, at an enormous cost, it just doesn't make sense logistically. But your totally right, I doubt NWN will ever turn the profit BG1 did, especially since they are continually maintaining it, allegedly out of their own pockets. An other thing to consider is that BG aged well, where as NWN IMO already looks really old.
  21. Well IMO Morrowind and PS:T are decent roleplaying games, and a lot more so then anything Bioware's ever made. So I guess you're wrong. But that would not be new. As for BG1, I liked the open areas, but I also liked the exploratory nature of the game as well, and I really don't think the combat was that bad, partly because IMO it was fairly tactical (edit: not really) in a RTS/WC3 sorta way and the low level combat was interesting. I did not feel the same love for BG2 combat because in that game everything was a lot more routine, and just like in KotOR became redundant. I also liked the atmosphere in BG1, and the fact that although it was not non-linear it was more non-linear then any other game Bioware's made. Furthermore, I like BG1 more in hindsight, then I did at the time. Gosh, its as if people can't even express their opinions anymore, without getting bombarded with whores like Shadowputz.
  22. The first sentence on Nivel's Silent Storm website is, Jeezus I just got in an argument with role-player saying Wiz8 wasn't a CRPG. I guess I don't like CRPG's because only the developers and I think they are CRPG's. Whatever... I like playing not watching. A lot of people I have talked think this as well. That is one location. What about every other location after Taris, you putz? I am sorry, I have to call you a little doggie again. Because your chasing your tail again doggie. Listen doggie, I never said you should be able to talk your way through KotOR 2 Will the little doggie finally understand in bold? This is what happens when the english make the dummies stop going to school when they can't pass their test. They forget to learn how to read. How many friggin times am I going to have to tell the doggie, that I do not think there should be a pacifistic path through KotOR2. When will the little doggie learn that I said, an option to remove the mandatory dull combat, for non combat oriented character would be a good idea. Does the little doggie understand that? Now go chase your tail some more, you moron.
  23. Actually you typed it, and then gave me credit for it. For the record, I am pretty much a combat gamer. My favorite CRPG in probably the last year has been Silent Storm. However, KotOR's combat is, 1) not the what KotOR does best 2) seems secondary to the exploratory/adventuring aspect of the game 3) does not allows non combat oriented characters in late stages of the game to really exercise their skills. So IMO there is no need for the mandatory filler. Of course you can continue to twist my words and write down things you said and put my name on it. But that is because you're low class.
  24. It wasn't, but he's just a jerk-off. My point was always to remove pointless/redudant/frivolous filler, which serves no other purpose but to waste time. I think PS:T was even flawed in this respect since, they would have thugs attack YOU and nobody else for no specific reason. It was just stupid. Like I said Taris was good. The use of droids, cameras and defense systems was great. If only that would have continued for the entire game, and not just the first 25% of it. The rest reminded me more of IWD, with more puzzles and dialogue. All levels very linear with pointless combat.
  25. Well since this is only getting worse since the time of BG, you said it yourself, maybe that explains Bio's success. In any case, it doesn't make much sense regardless to deviate from your most successful title. Still adding choices and options in CRPG's is never bad design.
