  1. It seems to me the EU has been largely ignored here...as it has in other situations... I am suprisingly apathetic to this idea, one (including myself) would think that i would be upset by that... According to bioware, they spent alot of time researching the EU, so it must have been a concious decision to save time and effort and to instead just simplify things. BTW THRAWN TRILOGY RULES!!!!! (someone said it was really bad on page 1 of this thread).
  2. Yeah, but that has nothing to do with expectations about the game itself. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I actually meant it kind of jokingly... I would defend that statement of mine but I'm tired of that battle...so nm. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'm upset about the whole simultaneous release thing as well, but I just don't see how a broken promise about the release date will have an impact on the features that we've been promised in game. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> ok...if you guys insist on my participation on this... This thread, though it was assumed by many, never specified that it dealt with only the features. The simul release was an expectation for the game, promoted by LA. That was part of its hype, though not having to deal specifically with gameplay. Now I've said my statement and will not continue down this dangerous path any longer. Game hype...I was sure KOTOR would dissapoint me (because my expectations were almost impossibly high) , though it didn't gameplaywise.
  3. Yeah, but that has nothing to do with expectations about the game itself. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I actually meant it kind of jokingly... I would defend that statement of mine but I'm tired of that battle...so nm.
  4. Well there's one expectation about release date...but let's not go there again. I agree that there's a risk of it being a dissapointment, but I find it more probably that it will be a great game. Especially considering how much work Obsidian seems to have put into it.
  5. That the sign of a really good game empthay with the characters. Even if you are an evil SOB! LOL ! Yeah you gotta love comleting a game like this on the LS it gives you a feeling of worth. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I agree completely and have said repeatedly that's a big piece of evidence for why KOTOR is such a good game. On the other hand, I don't get as much satisfaction from LS as I do guilt for DS... P.S. I feel the same way...I say to myself that I'll go DS but I just don't have my heart in it and I feel bad if i do.
  6. I think it would take away from the ROleplaying and the sw feel... Maybe it would be some thing you recieve for doing an extremely hard optional quest...
  7. As for Shin thinking it would be possible to beat Malak's implementation on the Forge by that time....try it. Do not level up once you reach Malak the first time, and see how well you do against him on the forge. (or if you have the PC version, get to him and find a way to hack your character to that level, since you wouldn't have to do the rest of the game at that level. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ummm...I fought Malak on the Leviathan at something like lvl 19...with a guardian... Malak's actually pathetically easy if you prepare correctly... Leveling quickly is really not that hard in KOTOR...at all... Also, I would have preferred a cutscene. Better yet, a cutscene with two possible results depending on whether you're more inclined towards DS or LS. Maybe as LS you get beaten upside the head or something (and Bastila or someone comes) and as DS you unleash your wrath upon Malak (and beat the **** out of him) and are set upon by his disciples, requiring Bastila to aid you and get left behind... Cutscenes in KOTOR were some of the weaker areas I think...possibly due to the multiple facial possibilities. I would like to have seen some good, long, and important cutscenes. That fight would have been the perfect oppurtunity.
  8. Diddn't a dev specifically say gender would have a big impact on the game? Don't remember if it was PC's gender or Revan's gender.
  9. Well as one of those so called 'half-wits' (with half the amount of 'wits' more than you I may add!) I've played KotOR to death and any difference in the game is welcome with me! Granted I wouldn't cheat my first 10 or so play through's, after that it gets a little tedious to say the least, so a little change does no harm, so kindly reserve judgement until you know the facts. <_< There, I'm done with my little rant. *whew* <{POST_SNAPBACK}> In any game, once you cheat you tend to not play it again as it is simply less fun in the future. Therefore, I'd say that cheats should be minimalized... Then again, when you've played through 10 times, you're probably going to stop soon anyway so taht's the perfect time...
  10. True but making KOTOR looking more ancient isn't a big problem: you just have to inspire your concept art by TOTJ comics, ancient empires like Mesopotamy or Mayans etc instead of copying yoda and tie fighters and movies in general. Till KOTOR star wars ancient era had its own climate similar and yet different to the movies, now we have just another clone of Lucas Trilogy. If Gossett and Carrrasco made such superb work in showing really ancient climate and later JA devs showed Korriban in an excellent way (Korriban level in JA is as big as Korriban in KOTOR by the way) - it is the same as in the comics and books. All those marvelous tombs and halls. I was stunned by the look of Korriban in JA and by the preciseness of all details. I think that bioware devs just didn't get the climate of star wars ancient era. They had to make a game for Lucasarts and they did it but without any subtleties. I hope that KOTOR 3 will be made by Lucasarts only. I'm currently making a private list of all KOTOR flaws. I'll add your observation to it <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well, having LA make it solo might not be the best option. Their track record of making good games isn't...well...good at all... Also, I feel bioware did a good job overall. We care about perfecting the game because they made it good enough for it to matter to us. I'd say that for simpler things LA is fine, but once you get into RPG realm... On the other hand, I'd say LA should definately be more involved in this field at least (how the game looks and feels), as that is not about the game engine or plot.
  11. Why were midichlorians mentioned once but just sort of left after there? They were a bad idea to begin with, but dropping it makes it into a completely useless bad idea that makes you wince (more) every time you see Episode I.
  12. While I agree with you, I have to concede the makers of JA had an easier job as it's a short action/adventure while KOTOR was an RPG with many more elements to consider. I wasn't that bothered by Ajunta Pall, as I considered the sith hadn't changed much...but in hindsight I see the problem. I remember another very good cutscene example...FFVIII fight with edea (1st). Both console rpgs and CRPGs have handled this piont better. For those of you who don't know, the edea fight had her and Squall (main character) and the other big characters fighting. When you finally hurt her enough, it triggers a cutscene where she says how pathetic you are and in some awesome animation sends a spear of ice right through you, making you go out cold (no pun intended) and almost die. I think a big thing that could have fixed the situation and would have been overall good would have been the lack of a health bar in KOTOR. I don't always tell my players the health of their opponents. If one didn't know how much health Malak had, he could have seemed like you were just doing insignificant attacks and you weren't hurting him much. However, we know that we were hurting him alot because of that health bar. Even during minor fights, it made the game much easier knowing who to attack and when. I'd reccomend that one could see the health bar while using that force power (was it force sight?) where you see alignment. This would be something that the devs could implement relatively easily I think.
  13. Well actually...have you read the POJ sourcebook? My theory is taht he turned his back on the force so the force turned its back on him, though now that i've read it, Fardragon's idea seems the best (except for the HK part).
  14. I've just completed FFX for a second time and i'm about to start FFVIII for the first time(and FFVII after that), any beginners tips? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> VIII try not to get levels at all. Junctions are where you get your real stat bonuses. After all, the enemies level up with you and you get most of your power from junctions. So if you're lvl 10 at the end of the game but incredibly powerful, you'll be fighting lvl 10 enemies who are weak. Also, make sure you draw magic from lots of bosses (or at least check what magic they have). Several bosses have GFs (really important) taht you can draw and if you miss even one, you loose big time.
  15. Because we're really really bored and found a place to occupy our highly intelligent minds :D !
  16. Wow Sal and I agree...what doom can this spell... I also hated how Malak just annoyingly beat you when you probably were strong enough to beat him on the forge by now. If I were GM there, I would have either put it into narrative mode (sorta like a pnp cutscene) so it would have been more fair, rigged the situation against the PCs more (so they would have had an illusion of choice but no matter what the same thing would have happened, which at least would make sense from a stat perspective view), or just let them get away with killing Malak then and there and hope i can make it work. That Leviathan is linear isn't a problem. That it's irrational and doesn't follow the game rules is a pain in the arse. They could have at least worked in some ambush by Malak's followers who stun you or Bastila stays back against them... Even easier would be to put a cutscene there.
  17. Whoa...maybe I'm tired, but someone has managed to state a non-existant opinion of mine... I said my experiences have been based on the linear game so far. Therefore I can use many console RPGs as basis for comparison and the like. I was simply contradicting the statement that KOTOR has no real choice, not saying I can't stand open non-linear RPGs... I have to admit I didn't like BG that much though... Though I did feel lost because I tried playing it as my first CRPG ever and had little clue what was going on... BTW, I'm a GM. I think I can understand basic stuff... And I can't quite tell if you're insulting my inteligence or not, as complexity is not neccessarily associated quality and intelligence. P.S. ShinIchiro is all one word.
  18. It's more of a theoretical debate than you seem to realize...
  19. Something about the weight issue...that weird balance is the reason that the lightsaber is so hard to master (particularly for non-force users)...that and I think vibrations from the energy.
  20. Same to both of these here... people sometimes say stuff like, why not play another lucas game while waiting for KOTOR. I don't care about almost any games nowadays and I have no affinity towards any new LA games. I'm also pissed off, though my interest has rebounded.
  21. Yah, I remember when I was a DBZ fan. now i think it's awesome to make fun of. Some DB episodes were good though...
  22. Actually, that started along with the 'Greedo Shoots First' incident inside the Mos Eisley cantina on Tattooine in the Special Edition films. If you've seen the original, you know that when Obi slices that one d00d's arm off with his glow stick of death, there's blood.....in the special edition, instead of blood, there's a cauterized severed limb. Now, while this admittedly makes more since when you realize that the way a Lightsaber cuts is by burning......I guess Lucas thought a charred severed limb was less violent than a bloody one? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Dude...that ruined the series.
