Actually, thinking about it I can't think of any attempts to make a linear computer rpg. Good ones have been made on consoles, but I don't think anyone has even tried on the computer, at least that anyone remembers.
-
Every fanatic argues for their genre vehemently. Its what makes them a fan. What i find suprising is that so many of us use the same arguments.
-
It can be done, its just harder.

RPGs shouldn't be anything. If the company can make it work one way, they should use that. Just, many of the RPGs you prefer are open-ended. I think Final Fantasy (pretty linear) is a good game, and many people would agree with me. Any style can be made into a good game as long as the developers do their job well.
-
First of all, how isn't that expanding the market (even if you defined it badly). Secondly, a FPS obsessive could say the same thing about a rpger; that they play weaker games and can't handle a real game. You're just biased (as is any fan of a game) and don't even pretend to try and be fair. It's okay, I'm biased towards RPGs (in general not just pnp style or crpg) and have argued more vehemently than you have. When I'm not angry, however, I prefer to maintain a sembalance of fairness and impartiality.

You must have been messing up in final fantasy games because the ultimate bosses were not easy and required much preparation. Have you beaten penance, omega, nemesis, ruby, and emerald? Either you have been messing up or I am even worse at playing and stupider than I thought (don't rush to agree, it's a strange joke)

Wouldn't it be Jigoku?

BG was a heavy/"real" rpg. I found that alot of people thought it was a good game but didn't like it. Liking games doesn't make someone have a weak stomach or mind. KOTOR has managed to expand the market from traditional RPGs and still be fun, thus making itself more successful. I'm not saying that's a good or bad thing, I'm just making an ovservation.
-
my post? I think that KOTOR is a good way to possible introduce people who are scareed to rpg to a rpg style enviroment. It is certainly less of a hardcore rpg game, which makes it more likable for many people. I see nothing wrong with my logic, but than again I might have missed something. Tell me what's wrong with my post.

Wow. I hate to admit it but I agree with you about this. KOTOR should be harder (not neccessarily by pumping up combat). However, when did I ever say anything about making it easy or linear?
-
If it were adapted to be more like the PnP system, it would drive/scare away many people who are playing their first "real" rpg. KOTOR is probably the first game using a pnp system (a little change but not that much if you think about it) that just about anyone can enjoy. Alot of people I know who hate rpging like KOTOR.
-
as do I. I would also like to see other characters. Plz.

You claim Pc RPG games are the best and should stick to what they have been doing, yet somehow PC RPG games have become less popular and more difficult to find support for than their console counterparts. KOTOR is one of the computer rpgs that is putting the PC back into the rpg market. As much as I dislike it, many good games are being released only on console, as the developers and producers probably feel it would not do well on PC. This leaves only dedicated RPGers playing the CRPG games. If only these people buy the game, it is less likely to succeed. Taking a leaf out of the more popular and successful console rpg games might not be a bad idea.

The muscleheadish character is a classic throwback to old sci-fi movies. Otehr classics include the quirky alien, the old man, and the strange droid(s).
-
Are you saying that because its a "real" rpg it can't utilize an excellent idea? This wouldn't even require butchering the d20 rules. Where's wiggin when you need him to say something insightful, even if it's against you...or anything at all. I haven't seen him on the forums recently. We had a sorta similar discussion about Kingdom Hearts and how aspects could be incorporated into KOTOR. Or at least similar ideas used.
-
Good point. Still, have you seen Canderous walking up with this masive ordo's repeating rifle. He sort of pats it and is very intimidating. Btw, Canderous also seems to act the part of a stereotypical muscle head even though he doesn't think like one. ALso a classic Sci-fi theme (almost a rule) is that the tough guys who are very confident use big guns. Its a classic.
-
Besides, support your arguments a little better than that instead of making fools of yourselfves if you desire to pursue this point so vehemently.
-
TO everyone saying that you want high firepower small package, that's not what canderous is about. He probably would go for the intimidation factor alone of having a huge gun.
-
Ah, but in the other forum we also talked about toning down heal.
-
Ok, jedi runs away, pulls your weapons, tries to push the rockets, makes them collide. Dodging and running is probably the best method. Or they pull a corran horn and force the thing to explode on them. Then you have a supercharged and pissed jedi.
-
Ummm, I actually think it's cool if bastilla dies, as long as they pull it off right. It sorta finalizes this sequel as a new beginning; a game of its own.
-
I like that idea too. WHat about you can't leave until your main character is either done healing or pulled out of healing early. Without your main character you can't do much. That would encourage kolto/bacta use for your main character and have it optional for everyone else.
-
When the game ends the game ends. What should be possible is the ability to retrace your steps right before the final boss and do everything (Final Fantasy-esque). That would work well with the harder sidequests and optional (but insanely hard) bosses I've been calling for. In FFX, working up to beat Nemesis is an extrordinary task. Same for the FFX International Boss (I always forget his name) who like 10 people in the world have beaten (I exagerate a little).

No, remember that it's all obiwan's fault anakin was held back. That's both the most pathetic and most awesomely repeatable line ever. It's so fun to say over and over again in the same dramatic tone to your friends.

Jedi can be killed, but it usually takes more than one sniper. Also, despite Hades' convictions, a detonator is not a guarenteed kill. Even weak jedi can be extremely compotenet if they surrender themselves to the force (that darth maul book where he killed this apprentice and her master).
