  1. man how cool is this guy telling people how little he cares and thinks, don't strain yourself typing a sentence there tony twist
  2. no they don't, there seems to be a trend of guys who think they know how stock market works in relation to their hobby and they're all wrong in the same way, by thinking consumers have some kind of leverage and that the stock market is a democratic system or something where companies rise and fall based on their excellent products or what have you (hahahahaha). i have a few ideas where this kind of market analysis is coming from but its extremely incorrect. wall street investors are not carefully keeping track of every electronic arts release and measuring fan reaction lol thats not really how finance works man i know that narrative conveniently fits into a particular worldview that assumes you have a lot more power by complaining on steam than you actually do
  3. i said this in another thread and i'll say it in all of these threads since there's so many, what exactly makes it bad for this game to hit level cap midway through and others the whole point is to get to the level cap? don't you want more than like, the boss to fight at level 20? isn't this all kind of arbitrary? i did two playthrus, one i skipped some quests and finished it at level 19 with no DLCs. My second playthru i did 3/4ths of the main game and then hit 20 during beast of winter.
  4. this is an underrated detail, the new interactivity with ydwin is awesome and i love her
  5. i remember when world of warcraft came out and consumers had to program add ons to perform essential tasks during raids and as i recall nobody really complained that the mechanics were obscured sometimes they don't want to tell you everything so it takes you longer to break it
  6. why do these guys take all the time to register for forums and wait to post to make troll threads like this
  7. ive noticed with nerds that generally there's something from adolescence that they have placed on a pedestal forever, and held to be untouchable and perfect and everything else is compared to it. and since nothing ever does then the rest of the games they like fall into recency bias
  8. its pretty easy to outrun them if you stick to deep water, you can also tell what level they are if you mouse over the ship. further all ships pause on the map when you stop your ship, and they are always visible on the map if you have removed fog of war. lastly there's only a couple times i couldn't disengage without incident that i can remember and none on my last playthru the ship mechanic isn't ideal but i'm fine with it, we can't graft sid meier's Pirates! mechanics into an RPG unfortunately
  9. if you think about movies, the protagonist doesn't really interact with the antagonist that much. deckard only gets to talk to batty once, at the end. benny gets killed halfway through, so by that point you have a "pick your own bad guy" adventure, like pillars i think the noavatar complaining about the "bad main quest" really sells short the like 90% of the game that also exists, and all the factions are well written and have allegorical connections to modern politics. anarchists are depicted extremely accurately. ;3 there's a lot of people who think video game narratives can only be good if they make you feel big, like its literally bad if you don't do that. thats not actually true and i wonder if there's some rent-a-college video game design curriculum that is responsible for this misunderstanding i know there's a movement in some corners of the internet that seem to be lashing out at "badfeels" in media like everything has to make you feel good which is just uh
  10. well for one thing the sales threads were all speculative and second like this happens all the time idk why gamers think lots of sales means the game is good and all good games sell velvet underground and nico sold poorly but like brian eno said everyone who bought it started a band
  11. i mean i love bad endings to be honest, like the only issue i have with pillars 2 ending is that they have a classic DM issue of being too damn vague about their secret narrative and it serves to really obfuscate what they were getting at, and the fact that there seem to be two wheels a metaphorical one with regards to the reincarnation cycle and a specific Engwithian Wheel of Ukaizo. anyway, what i'm trying to say is that i didn't really mind that you couldn't do anything about eothas it feels uh kind of a specific choice as an allegory to our world, anyway... mass effect was a trashy space opera, i *liked* that about it. it was like a mashup of star wars and star trek for showtime, it was great. and then they got all self serious and tried to do an art and smacked their face onto the pavement because it was such a weird, presumptuous tonal shift that it left the whole game feeling weird and dreary
  12. this thread is great because when the first game came out most of the people with no avatar were complaining about *partial voice acting being non immersive *not being able to see what the gods looked like *writing was too dark/figurative/confusing "bad" etc *text vomit or whatever internet euphemism is clever for "a full paragraph appeared on my screen and it upset me" every change complained about here is the reaction to that criticism, almost like they were playing a joke since i mean how could you expect anything else i mean i feel like dragon age origins has more plot holes and bad writing & acting but that seems to be overwhelmingly positive
  13. its not so much about punishment as they are both gods of justice, its the dichotomy of justice being a common good and a value to uphold but its gritty details are ruthless and dark too. really batman is a weird lunatic, when you think about it. Rorschach in watchmen is this idea taken to the most extreme ends, and is most congruous with skaen imo. perhaps skaen being an aspect of woedica is too simple but it does make sense that they are entwined as she is in exile, and it is her justified rule. while a lot of the conceptualizing of the gods by the engwithans is deliberately made murky i think its similar to the way tech is discovering AI is just reflecting our own flaws because we built them into the systems, so their conception of justice had this blood thirsty bend to it, like a lot of societies do, and so the gods that reflect justice both woedica the queen and skaen the slave are very ruthless
  14. mass effect 3 vanguard was the most fun i ever had on a fps shame about that story, and so many other things besides
  15. seems like most people enjoyed the game actually why are some of you guys so incredibly invested in what other people think of it at the moment or that it didn't fulfill your expectations
  16. skaen is woedica like gaun is eothas
  17. OP is basically saying kiss is better than zeppelin because its more focused and the acting is better
  18. Ursula, death godlike mystic - sloop was the defiant bc i didn't realize i could change it and then my galleon was uh Anime Tiddy and its good because i often forget i named it thus and it'll come up in a scripted something or other and i nearly spit my drink out Chavonne, amanua barbarian - sloop is named the DETHWULF (caps specific) Odessa, valian shepherd with pet lion sabra - sloop is named Lionessa d'Vailia and the Dhow is called Sealion Frostbite, pale elf evoker with weird and numerous cult entourage - sloop is called Whitewind
  19. long side quests and deep dives bit the dust because of online complaining, i feel like devs need to stop listening or at least figure out a way to separate the hour 1000 moaning from 90% of the userbase. people need a reckoning with the fact that about a third of any given game's audience actually finishes the dang thing. so that late game side dungeon thats 12 levels deep and filled with traps is ultimately only being complained about by ten people. its kinda funny how deadfire went back and added deep dungeon dives for the DLCs after people just wailed about how long od nua was (thats the point) or how long burial isle may have been (but then ukaizo is too short) but lets step back and be aware that the consensus GOTY this year is RDR2 a game with no reactivity and absolutely nothing important to say that rockstar hasn't said in every edition of grand theft auto already. the barometer for audiences and game press for "great game" is "how much does this make me feel like i'm inside of a movie???" or like how much i hear about how realistic the graphics are why don't you go to a national park holy moley go see pando before she dies maybe? i want fantastic spectacle from games not a faithful re-imagining of someplace that looks almost like Yosimite but instead is on my tv & has a fictional name that is a **** joke or something
  20. i don't believe any of the character relationships are going to prevent you from anything if xoti and palle are mad at each other its not like they're going to quit the group like in BG aloth as a battlemage is an absolute beast (rp wise you can also attribute it to islmyr, since she even says that stuff to the effect of he's here for the brains and casting and i'm here to knock heads), a tremendous damage fighter next to eder and would free you up to do a shred cipher. i love aloth as a battlemage i may never be able to play him as anything else (though i would like an even more min/maxed version) so with your preferences: Tank - eder (pure fighter) melee dps - aloth (battlemage) ranged dps - shred spells on a cipher, pure class or ascendent is good soul blade if you want your weapon damage to shine. healer - xoti (pure priest) this is a fabulous core that you can do a lot with imo usually i set things up as: tank, melee dps, flex support, ranged dps, ranged support i think xoti rules as a monk/priest aka contemplative and still does good healing and she slides in perfectly as that melee support spot. where its not like they're the main dps of the group but they have a big tool kit and can still hammer when they need to. one thing i like about pillars is how many sources of heals there are i often run in a party that doesn't really have a dedicated one. popping off holy radiance mixed with some potions & second winds seems to be fine most of the time. making xoti a contemplative or a front line priest would leave up another spot in your entourage for long range CC or support caster. however, you could also keep xoti a pure priest of gaun and then say, make pallegina a chanter/palledin aka herald which would cover that front line flex support role. Lot of stuff you can do with this line up and i think if you pick a pure dps caster you'll still have a ton of options since every party member has several choices for what class they get to be. also don't be afraid of hiring characters that fit your party perfectly its a deep system & a lot of fun to play with. for example, right now I have a shephard (stalker ranger/dracozzi paladin) frontline tank that has a pet lion for dps. and i could have probably picked shieldbearer to make it even more min/maxed but i wanted the rp aspect of being a paladin from old vailia. she cannot be knocked down, she has all of the defender perks from both trees combined with the buffs she gets from being near her pet. i would say if you like being the nuke caster and you don't want to make aloth a battlemage you can still do something else with him, he's a pure wizard and might score wouldn't be wasted on being kitted to do a bunch of debuffs and stuff. however you'll be missing out on citzal's spirit lance + mule kick flipping an entire front line my last bit of advice is that games like this shoudn't be speed runs or played through once. i've spent at least 100 hours simply making characters with this system. last note: only played through it twice on veteran with scaling so i'm no potd pro
  21. i played a little bit of witcher 3 and i could tell early on that it was a more attractive looking skyrim with a better script but also with batman mechanics. he even has that detective vision lmao. i really cannot understand how so many people are like wow this is like the pinnacle of gaming a very basic batman controller mechanics and unlock system spun off into mad max and fantasy. its really straight console gaming for people that want to play games that feel like movies. they think the closer the game is to being like a movie "you" star in the better it is i want to play a game, i also like having a squad anyway *banging on table* where is my mass effect tactics
