I don't think that makes any sense. There are many games that have been financial failures that I would still have given money to sequels for.

Nice pass from Hemsky to Torres, and score one for Pronger!!

Not saying that it doesn't mean more or less mental workout. But even if you had mad mouse skillz, they'd only be faster if you actually used both of your hands.

Brian D. Lawson interview about NWN 2 and stuff
alanschu replied to kirottu's topic in Computer and Console
They did, and that was mentioned several times by Brian & Co. NWN2's renderer is based on DX9 technology whereas NWN1 is OpenGL based, so Obsidian had to rebuild the renderer completely from scratch.... As a side note, it's actually impressive to see what they were able to do so far with NWN2, especially the graphics and the completely new toolset which seems to work already at the current status pretty well... Looking at the DA forums, you still only get "We've not decided yet what the toolset will look like" crap. Those Biowarians are just too slow. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> To be fair, I think Dragon's Age is still a long ways away. Though a guy from Bioware did mention at my school that they've made decisions on their pathfinding model, as well as the scripting language! :D -

Well, it mentions in the article that you link to that the rates of deaths for both cancer and heart disease are falling...just that heart disease is falling faster.

In that link Brian Lawson says that the graphics/rendering engine is "new....made from scratch." -
The average fluctates with the people. But it's always represented with a score of 100. It's all based on a statistical sample to ensure that a score of 100 puts you roughly in the 50th percentile. The average may be 115 based on old standards, but they are always normalized to keep the average at 100. The data is also constantly being manipulated to ensure that a certain percentage of people are within one standard deviation. So no, the average IQ is not 115. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IQ http://iq-test.learninginfo.org/iq04.htm

Tinkering is fun. I think it's a guy thing though EDIT: I cannot speel

You can also play FPS games entirely with the keyboard. I would wager that anyone that plays RTS games entirely with the mouse will become roughly as good as me (i.e. not very good at all).

The poverty line refers to relative poverty. The absolute poverty experienced by the "poorer" nations is unimaginable compared to what developed nations compare to "poverty." Furthermore, the idea behind helping the impoverished over seas is often lead (for better or worse) by the idea of expanding markets to help keep the costs of goods down in the host country and create new flows of capital. I would wager that if the U.S. shut down it's borders and became isolationist, things would not be better. To the topic on hand, I believe that both health care and basic education (K-12 type stuff) should be universal. I'm also a supporter of government bursaries and scholarships for post secondary education.

IIRC, "average" IQ is 100.

I couldn't remember if it was you or someone else

New tech usually means price drops for the older stuff too.

Actually if anything, it's Alan Schu My full name is Allan Schumacher So Surreptishus was actually correct. The second 'L' got dropped because when my first email was created, the guy messed up and dropped one by mistake. It just stuck ever since.

My opponents change their lines quite frequently. EDIT: Didn't realize you were talking about online play. Just make house rules to have fatigue on. See how long they keep that line out then.

That's odd. Most people usually agree that World of Warcraft is the best thing that's happened to MMORPG's so far. I'd say it's a great game. I never liked strategy games though and Diablo (both of them) suck in my opinion, so.. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> heh, all depends who you talk to. I was around for the original MMORPG and have played pretty much everyone since. World of Warcraft to me is just a travisty showing how far the original concept of the genre has fallen. MMORPGs are suppose to be about adventure, excitement, questing, ect. Much the same feeling as you get from playing K1 or K2 but in a multiplayer atmoshpere. MMORPGs got nothing what so ever to do with making sure everyone and anyone can max out in 2 weeks. Punishing those who play more. And all that crap found in WoW. And the saturday morning cartoon graphics turn me right off. As I said, just depends who you speak to. Most of my crowd are older so doesnt appreciate how dumbed down WoW made its MMORPG. Newer players to the genre love it for what ever reason though. In my eyes, WoW was nothing more then a well thought out cash grab. Instant gratification for the no patience crowd and their parents disposable money. Cant blame Blizzard (as a company) for doing such a thing but doesnt mean I have to respect them for it and their greed will (far as this ONE consumer concerned) cause me to seriously rethink buying their future products with out solid first hand experience and info on them, prior to purchase. Not my cup of tea I prefer content and quality over flashy cartoons and free give aways. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That's because most people are not interested in taking a year of real time to complete a quest. There's a reason why WoW sold as fast as it did (and continues to sell fast now) when it was released. It got rid of the "stupid" aspect of MMORPGs, and opened up a market to non-gamers by allowing them to actually accomplish something even if they only play for a half an hour. Anytime a game can bring non-gamers into the fold is a good thing. I don't care much for The Sims as a game, but I love the fact that it gave exposure to the mass market. The funny thing is that you accuse Blizzard for pulling a cash grab. I considered Sony's model with EQ to be much worse. They were very smart with their reward model, providing just enough to keep you coming back, bringing you in for multiple months and counting on the social aspect to bring people in for years at a time. I say kudos to Blizzard for not squeaking out every possible dollar out of their customers. I still don't consider it any more of a "cash grab" than any other company. They recognized the MMORPG market, and addressed many of the drawbacks of the established models. The fact that World of Warcraft sold so well is because that's what the market wanted. The old model is outdated and most people aren't a big fan of investing substantial amounts of money into a video game only to accomplish very, very little. There's a reason why World of Warcraft has absolutely demolished its western competitors. As for your "old" players, it's not surprising that they feel that way. It's not <game X> and doesn't play just like <game X> so "obviously" they'll hate it. There are people out there that still feel that vinyl records are better than compact discs. If there is enough of your "old" friends that like playing the older style MMORPG, then there is still a market for it and someone else will come along. Perhaps most people aren't the type of person that is willing to bring jars into their bedroom so that they can put their bodily waste into it for fear of missing a rare mob spawn.

360 games even more expensive than Xbox ones

Morrowind released in 1996??? -
Which model do you have? And stating the size difference of 41" is actually irrelevant. Unless you use you computer screen from across the room, you'd be surprised how much the 19" screen takes up you field of view compared to a 60" plasma. I bet if I was to do an empirical analysis, my 17" montior takes up more of my view when using the computer than most 60" TVs, depending on where I'm sitting in a room. I don't sit 12 inches away from a 60" TV when watching it. Aside from that I don't really understand. You mentioned that you got lucky and received a $1000 discount and even then it still cost $1000 more than your 19" monitor, and then cast it aside as somehow still having the financial aspect on your side. Well I might as well just chime in that my Dad owns his own computer store, so I can buy all my computer parts at wholesale! Nothing like saving a thousand dollars on an entire machine built from scratch!

I always prounced it "Mash-een-ah" even though I was pretty sure it was a hard 'k' sound for the ch.

awwww, you remembered!

Actually I'd bet that 486 processors are quite rare. Maybe some slower Pentiums, but even then you'll find those are pretty rare.

How sexist. Good story and great quests is what make a game. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Umm... Gaby... note the " "? I think he was showing his dislike for the concept. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yuppers! I was originally going to go without the but when I looked at it at first, I was thinking that my statement could be taken too literally, so I figured on adding the I mean, is perhaps too vague? I thought was pretty good, being that it's and all. Meh. I have contacted Fionavar for a new emoticon. :omfgwtfz0rs: is now
