Brian D. Lawson interview about NWN 2 and stuff
Did you have to pay for all of the "henchmen" in NWN? I thought many of them could be had for adventure. At the very least they were in HotU.

I used to dominate at games like Odell Lake in elementary school because I knew the keyboard :D

Jade Empire sequel confirmed
Another good point. Initial investment on an established IP would likely not be as high, and if it's losses were not significant, sequels that build on the exposure of the previous game can indeed be profitable.

NHL is back
Haha, what are the odds that the referee would be right there waiting for it in a game? I guess if she has seats near a face off circle or something. It does look like the redline so.

360 games even more expensive than Xbox ones
Seems as though Daggerfall still has quite the cult following too.

PCs and the cost of gaming
386s are the chips that have been implanted into all the "intelligent" home objects, like refridgerators and irons. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Correction: 486 processors [in personal computers] are likely quite rare. I know the original 68k processor still lingers around. It was the sound chip on the Dreamcast.

Try going into your display properites and changing the colour depth to 16-bit.

Blame that more on scripted AIs. If you make this claim in an online environment than I will call you a liar.

Jade Empire sequel confirmed
I don't think that makes any sense. There are many games that have been financial failures that I would still have given money to sequels for. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The point is Alanshu my friend, the number of sequels made for financial failures in any industry is low to none. By definition, a sequel is only going to be warranted if the original title was popular and successful (unless of course it's a pre-planned sequel such as Mass Effect 2 & 3, which JE of course was not). <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That's not what Volourn was saying though. He was criticizing ShadowPaladin on his willingness to pay for a sequel as somehow invalidating ShadowPaladin's claims of financial failure.

Brian D. Lawson interview about NWN 2 and stuff
Actually when you're discussing subjective interpretation it's about the only thing to go on.

Doesn't stop you when the statement is something you agree with. Why on Earth would the developers state that it is built from scratch if it isn't?

Not saying that it doesn't mean more or less mental workout. But even if you had mad mouse skillz, they'd only be faster if you actually used both of your hands.

Brian D. Lawson interview about NWN 2 and stuff
They did, and that was mentioned several times by Brian & Co. NWN2's renderer is based on DX9 technology whereas NWN1 is OpenGL based, so Obsidian had to rebuild the renderer completely from scratch.... As a side note, it's actually impressive to see what they were able to do so far with NWN2, especially the graphics and the completely new toolset which seems to work already at the current status pretty well... Looking at the DA forums, you still only get "We've not decided yet what the toolset will look like" crap. Those Biowarians are just too slow. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> To be fair, I think Dragon's Age is still a long ways away. Though a guy from Bioware did mention at my school that they've made decisions on their pathfinding model, as well as the scripting language! :D

HIV finally curable?
Well, it mentions in the article that you link to that the rates of deaths for both cancer and heart disease are falling...just that heart disease is falling faster.

In that link Brian Lawson says that the graphics/rendering engine is "new....made from scratch."

IQ test, anyone know of a free online one...
The average fluctates with the people. But it's always represented with a score of 100. It's all based on a statistical sample to ensure that a score of 100 puts you roughly in the 50th percentile. The average may be 115 based on old standards, but they are always normalized to keep the average at 100. The data is also constantly being manipulated to ensure that a certain percentage of people are within one standard deviation. So no, the average IQ is not 115. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IQ http://iq-test.learninginfo.org/iq04.htm

You can also play FPS games entirely with the keyboard. I would wager that anyone that plays RTS games entirely with the mouse will become roughly as good as me (i.e. not very good at all).

- U.S. Universal Healthcare
The poverty line refers to relative poverty. The absolute poverty experienced by the "poorer" nations is unimaginable compared to what developed nations compare to "poverty." Furthermore, the idea behind helping the impoverished over seas is often lead (for better or worse) by the idea of expanding markets to help keep the costs of goods down in the host country and create new flows of capital. I would wager that if the U.S. shut down it's borders and became isolationist, things would not be better. To the topic on hand, I believe that both health care and basic education (K-12 type stuff) should be universal. I'm also a supporter of government bursaries and scholarships for post secondary education.- IQ test, anyone know of a free online one...
